WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Edit: I don't know if I posted it or not, but there was an interesting article on SciAm that started out by comparing how dangerous and astroid is compared to how dangerous global warming is.
Your sig is awesome btw lol.
I've been looking for the article but I can't seem to find it. It basically said that global warming is a much larger threat than astroids (which you already knew, of course). It was an interesting read.
How does something non existent beat out millions of tons of real space rock!?
On the real though, Global Warming is a load of bull but I don't think this is the thread for that discussion.
Everyone dies, therefore smoking and drugs do not accelerate the process.
Something like that?
Hey, if you're meant to go, you're meant to go. Everything causes cancer nowadays no use avoiding it.
I mean, the Earth will get swallowed alive in a few billion years, lets just dump nuclear waste and turn the oceans into landfills! Let's over-fish some more and hunt whales, that way they dont have to endure an excruciating death 4 billion years from now!
I know the Earth goes through cycles of hot and cold, but saying that you and I have NO bearing on it and that it is something that is impossible to accelerate is kind of reaching.
Yes, but you haven't even heard my argument but you go through with refuting it. I'm not saying that it's impossible to accelerate it, that's definitely possible, and we certainly need to clean up our act quite a bit or it's going to have some profound impacts, but people are certainly blowing up this here and now thing quite a bit.
I wasn't responding to you per se, its just that everyone has the same cookie cutter argument is all. I think im more shocked that yours is different, this is a first for me.
I have a thing for arguments that reside under an open ended umbrella.
If that were the case then I'd go back in time to the Nuremberg trials and get my Johnny Cochrane on for the Nazi's and say that since the Jews were destined to die anyway then everything they did in Auschwitz was a lie, much like the proverbial cake.
Maybe Ahmadinejad was right....
Your second post sounds like "global warming is real but people are blowing it out of proportion". But your first post sounds like "Global warming is a load of bull" (exact words, actually). Can you clarify your stance on this issue? I'm (probably) not going to argue against you either way, I just want to know what your stance is.
I personally think man's contribution to global warming is a real threat which must be addressed immediately.
My stance is the second one. I used to be gung ho for it rah rah etc, but after reading Michael Crichton's State of Fear, I was all against it (really good fictional book with A LOT of sources about the climate studies and such), but now I've settled down in the middle more or less. Do I think that the effect per say exists? Yes science has proven that. Do I think we have an impact? Absolutely, again, science. But I do think it is getting blown out of proportion. As Miz said, the earth goes through cycles of warm and cold periods, and I do think that we are just going towards a warmer part of the cycle but I just think the media and global warming enthusiasts are using that as an excuse to make it such a big deal.
Edit: You could say the load of bull I was referring to was rather the media hype than the actual theory.
How do you feel about man's contribution to global warming? Do you think it's ignorable/negligible or do you think it's a mild concern, or do you think it's a serious concern, or do you think it's a very serious concern?
I feel like I'm taking a survey, lol.
1) Strongly Agree
2) Agree
3) Neither agree nor disagree
4) Disagree
5) Strongly disagree
I'll go with a mild concern under the assumption that most Americans believe it is a serious concern (on that scale).
Now this is a horrible argument that was on the Colbert report, but I feel it is relevant lol: How can we predict the climate change of 10s of years if we can't get the weather for tomorrow right?
