Do you think if cold fusion works, would this star jet ultimate incinerator idea work with it? Or is it possible with any fusion reaction for that matter, without shutting the whole chain reaction down?

Also, would cold fusion being real change the way scientists view physics and/or prove or disprove certain theories?
Not sure how this would work, fusion has to be really clean in order to sustain itself, imperfections/irregularities in the plasma can help to break the reaction sooner. And AFAIK, there is no 'new' science in cold fusion, just a lot of theoretical ideas that people are trying to combine together to make practical applications that... actually work.

For the organics instead of the materialists: SciAm has an article about using iPSCs in the May Issue. Any of you had a chance to look at it/see anything interesting in it? I've been trying to follow these kinds of items but my knowledge is limited and wanted to know if there was any 'new' information here or if its just a rehash of what we already know.

For clarification to those who, like me, were like "I pee freely skillchain wut?": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induced...tent_stem_cell explains a bit.

Basically a type of stem cell produced from normal cells through gene expression which is very similar to the type that can be gotten from embryo's and whatnot, without any fucking morons bitching that "YER KILLIN OUR BABIES!" or other stupid shit.

Pretty sure things are improving quickly, but the main issues are still not completely resolved. I think they've been able to induce pluripotency under a number of different conditions now, and a bunch of different labs have had success. Still questions with how much induction of pluripotency overlaps with potential cancer causing mechanisms. Still problems with the fact that you might not get more than a few stem cells out of a whole bunch of potentials. Still safety issues that may arise from genomic reprogramming. I'm not aware of any major breakthroughs, but this field seems to be moving damn fast, so who knows?

Basically, ES cells *at this point* would still be preferable for safety and efficiency reasons, but IPS wins out for ethical and immunology reasons.

edit: This is a really technical review, but it gives a cliff-notes version up at the top and it was the only free online article I could find.
