Apparently at one point he was driving a van with a friend riding with him, talking about something, and suddenly he turns his gaze to a beautiful girl walking down the street...

Nearly driving into oncoming traffic, he swerves, the other driver honks, his friend asks "Didn't you see that car?"

"No", Feynman replied, "I only saw the girl, the rest is all a blur."

Someone tell Caiti to find a new guy, no money will ever come out of this one.

    [edit]
But really, that's awesome. Hope you enjoy it.

I gotta admit, it's fucked up reading your posts in McCoy's voice, but grats yo, except that Kaylia just burned your ass with facts: whats the difference between a physics major and a large pizza?

    Spoiler: show
A large pizza can feed a family of four.

I'm not too worried. I've known what I was getting into since I made the decision to go for this. It's just me and Caiti, no kids, etc. I can't imagine having any troubles whatsoever except in the years it's going to take me to finish undergrad and graduate degrees.

Plus I assume you love physics, so at the least you'll be going for something you want to learn about, rather than to make money at it... like those fucking engineering scumbags.

Physics and maths are nothing but trouble! You will regret your decision every night before an homeworks is due.

If you're masochist like most of us, welcome aboard, you will love it.

I've been really regretting my decisions lately lol

I've only slept and eaten about 4 out of the past 7 days (notice how often I've been posting on BG at 4am EST lately). I wish I majored in freaking business or sociology or something equally easy x_x

On the bright side, I'll be done with my physics major very soon, and I'm already done with my math bachelors (though I wont be getting the actual papers until 2012, the same semester I get my math masters). So I'll be able to focus only on the math masters from now on. Should be much easier than working on a masters and two bachelors at the same time.

I'd hate to be in that position, lol. For a single major though I'm really not too worried, I know it will be hard but there's ~40 total Physics majors in an undergraduate class of 8000, which I've been told is going to give me ample time in class and out of class to really get one-to-one with the material and my professors.

My Gen. Ed (histories, english, etc) for the first 2 years are completely done, along with some electives. First two years I think I can really immerse myself in the science and math without having to worry about writing chapter summaries of War & Peace, etc. Also allows me to double up in some areas since I've been told that starting in the 2nd half of my Junior year I can start taking Graduate classes if my schedule allows, which it will if I can push up some of my upperclass gen. ed to sophomore year.

We'll see how everything goes. Inc 6 months from now I'm spam PMing you about basic principles.

One of my classmates is only taking thermo and mechanics this semester. He's not working (he has extenuating circumstances for transferring for a semester before going back to Minnesota), so he has plenty of free time. If I had that much free time, I'd probably be getting an A in thermo. It all depends how much free time you give yourself. I'm dumb and taking 17 credits along with working 20 hours a week, so I barely have enough time to keep up with everything.

And yeah, having small class sizes like that will help out a lot too. Most of my classes are around 8 people max. The professors seem to like it better too, we usually have one-on-one sessions, instead of having to go to a TA's office hours who doesn't know exactly what was taught in lecture.

Pretty much just have fun with it, there will be a lot of "duh" moments and a lot of struggles, but the good will always outweigh the bad. Unless if you're the next Feynman, then I'm jealous.

There's like 8 physics majors in a class of 20,000 here lol

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I have two jobs and a learning disability. So things are a lot rougher on me than on the average physics student with one major.

Guess ill just have to see how everything goes. I am lucky a bit in the regard that I seem to get concepts almost immediately and they stick permanently once somebody shows something to me. I'm just behind on a lot of the more basic shit because I made some really bad choices education-wise in my life.

I don't consider myself any smarter than anyone here so what you've all experienced is probably what ill experience too. I think the most exciting part, for me, is the idea that I may be able to finally put to paper some of the bullshit that swirls around in my head. I dropped out of hs before ever finishing pre-calc so I've never been able to really get down to the nuts and bolts of anything, and completely blind, untested, unarguable ideas aren't productive in any way.

I think I'm more excited about being able to take my ideas and argue them against myself finally, once I learn the math, than I am about anything else.

What level of math are you on right now?

I'm jealous (only with less of a negative connotation of the word) of you guys that have any creativity when it comes to thinking up new ideas about things. I would consider myself competent at solving problems that people already have asked, but thinking up ideas on my own is impossible. I have no idea how someone like Newton thought that the same force that keeps the moon orbiting the earth is the same force that caused an apple to fall on his head. I guess this is why I'm an engineer.

Just finishing pre-calc and trig this coming week. Have 4.0 in both but shit is easy so I'm trying to keep perspective. Taking calc 1 this summer so I can hopefully take calc 2 in the fall.

Edit: I think I was a lot more creative when I was younger, somewhere along the way I let go of it I guess. It really clicked for me a month or so back when I was watching a science channel special on space-time and one of the topics was a much more involved idea of something I had scribbled down years and years ago to explain certain aspects of how the 3rd and 4th dimensions interact. Probably sounds like bullshit, and that's fine lol, but it really was the final push I needed to pursue something that would let me make sense of all this crap.

I went from taking college level science and math reasoning courses in 6th and 7th grade to dropping out of hs and working retail. Then everything else just sort of slowly marched onwards, dragging me with it. I consider myself lucky as hell to even have a second chance.
