Here's the iphone app. It's definitely worth the buy.

edit: oh lol nvm I guess that skygazer thing is for the iphone anway

I thought about the 50mm f/1.8 but figured I'd start with my 2 kit lenses. I also have a 75-300mm. But the 300mm is difficult without a tracking mount. I was able to catch some fuzzy from M51 on short exp though which was kind of exciting for me.

This is what skygazer is spitting out.

May 15, 3am, this is the view.

Not bad at all assuming you can find low enough light pollution.

I'm not going to be online as often as usual from now until July 23rd. When I get back, this thread had better be 150 pages.

Actually, I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get online. I may still be able to get on daily (hopefully). But regardless, I'm expecting 150+ before August.

Can't post URLS due to post count but this is from the BBC news site.

North Korea reports nuclear fusion success
    By John Sudworth
    BBC News, Seoul

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il (C) waving from a train while leaving Chinese capital of Beijing ending his five-day visit to China, May 2010
A new star appeared in the sky when Kim Jong-il was born, biographers say

North Korea has announced that it has made significant progress towards the development of thermo-nuclear power.

It is a claim that is likely to be met with some scepticism.

Despite hopes that the technology can produce large quantities of cheap, clean energy, no country has so far succeeded in making it work.

North Korea is one of the world's poorest countries and struggles to generate enough electricity for lighting and other basic needs.

The statement, carried by North Korea's official state media, said the country's scientists had succeeded in carrying out nuclear fusion.

Laboratory demonstrations of the process, known to release large amounts of energy, are nothing new.

But the North Koreans appear to be claiming to have gone much further, by building what they describe as a "unique thermo-nuclear reaction device".

    'Highly unlikely'

The dream of overcoming the huge technical challenges to make nuclear fusion commercially viable has so far eluded scientists in Europe, America and China, but they continue to try because the prize is so great: a cheap and abundant source of energy with little environmental impact.

North Korea's claim that it has completed the fundamental research, putting the technology within its grasp, will be dismissed as highly unlikely unless concrete evidence is produced.

Pyongyang says its latest scientific breakthrough coincides with the birthday of the country's founder, and eternal president Kim Il-sung - not the first time it seems that the laws of nature have been bent in his honour.

According to official biographies, when his son, the current leader Kim Jong-il was born, a new star appeared in the sky.
I know they're probably just BSing but luls.

North Korea is great for the lulz. I do wonder how delusional Jong-Il actually is.

I remember when he claimed that his first time ever picking up golf clubs, he had 11 hole in ones on the first 12 holes.

Jong-il is truly a person after my heart.

To be fair, the universe is so big that a new star probably did form when he was born.

Any of you Physics or Engineering majors completed a serious thesis project / paper yet?

Curious about how you determined what to do / how to approach it.

Perhaps explain what your personal interests in the field are, what got you into science, what you would like to do after completing your degree, etc, and that could help anyone trying to give advice on a thesis.

Generally a thesis is something close to your goals/interests in the field, particularly something you feel you can advance the knowledge of the field in, though that might just be for a PhD thesis.

Edit, uh, do it on this, theft on a planetary scale, dawg!

Pretty sure that 95% of the time, you're doing what teachers offer you. Every school is specialized in a subject or two, and you will usually end up working with something related to it.

Miz, we did not get to field theory in my mechanics class We were supposed to go over it today, but we had so many questions about coupled oscillators that we ran out of time.

Nah, today was the last day of class before finals lol. He said if we were interested to read the chapter on continuum mechanics, I'll probably look at that once finals are done after next week.

Also, had the worst expression in the quadratic formula earlier. The b term was 3 terms itself, a and c terms were two terms each lol. I didn't even try to solve it, I just left it in the first form.

Throw it at wolfram.alpha, then put the solution on your page, and in between the two, write "then a miracle occurs".

    Story time!

Apparently, on the tail end of one of my amnesiac binges, girlfriend gives me a sleepy time pill, and just then a show on the LHC comes on.

I start watching, she is too, and she asks a perfectly logical question, "So, this is going to let us revisit the big bang?", well done honey.

Now, at this point, I'm sleep deprived, stoned as fuck on a sleeping pill, and totally in love with this girl.

So I respond 'You wanna revisit the big bang?', and as she stares at me, trying to figure out what the fuck I meant by that, I motion suggestively at my crotch, as I apparently decided to call my dick 'the big bang' at that moment.

The fact that she is still with me suggests I am the luckiest man alive.
