    Nah I'm studying for my test @1pm by doing some optional homework problems. <_<; I had stopped studying last night to work on my bio 2 labs/study for lab practical because I did all the problems before this one in my head properly. Also side note:fuck sig figs.

    I had issues with 3- (3/2) last night. The answer I was supposed to get was 3/2, and it took me about 15 minutes to realize that 3 - (3/2) is actually 3/2.

    Fucking fuck me. I forgot to bring a calc and the only calc I had on my was my phone.... last 2 problems were solvable without a calc... First one had to do quadratic equation.... yeah that's right bitches I solved that one... second one was incline problem so... sin/cos etc and the 3rd one was adding two vectors in polar coord. system. 4th was tensions with 2 boxes at constant vel (thank god, was running out of time) and the last one I didn't finish was fucking simple... time it takes a squirrel with no vert. initial veloc. to fall 9.1 m -.-; I had 5 mins left when I got to the problem. I spent like 20 mins on the first problem because fuck you square roots. (I really hope the sq. of 490.something i think that was it... is 22.15~)

    Fucking integral..how do they work?

    @Woozie
    I love you, completely forgotly forgot about completing the square.

    Everytime I look at physics-based math, my eyes start to steam and my brain starts turning to mush. I don't know how you physicists can pull it off everyday. =D

    So since we're talking about integral issues, I can't figure out this Dirac delta integral.

    http://latex.codecogs.com/gif.latex?...(x^{2}%20-1)dx

    The answer according to Wolfram is 1, but I keep getting 2. I'm probably not handling the x^2 portion of the delta correctly, since my teacher didn't really go over that part and I can't find an example using x^2. I tried using the roots of x^2 -1 which is -1 and 1, but only 1 is in the range and that keeps giving me an answer of 2.

    I'm also thinking the answer is 2 for the same reason you just gave. I don't know what we're doing wrong.

    Wolfram is right. It's 1.

    Wait, is this before or after the problems send you a psychic message that they're physics?

    Wow lol I never would have figured that out on my own. Thanks for the help again Woozie. I had thought of just randomly throwing a 1/2 in there to make it work, but I would have had no way to prove how it got there lol.

    We ask Woozie.

    But seriously, the maths are bad, especially if you're not doing so great in mathematics like me. 95% of my studying time in physics is learning mathematics, and the last 5% is solving physics problem.

    This. They should seriously make every physics student complete all of his/her math requirements before attempting any of the physics classes.

    I hope my chemistry major has nothing this complicated. x-x So far the worst we gotta do is ratio conversions and sig figs, which I can do in my sleep. And it's generally before receiving psychic messages that I know they're physics, since it's a physics thread and almost all the problems I see appear here are physics, and woozie is generally the one that answers.

    But then again, math is the language of god, so maybe it's actually sending subconscious psychic signals telling me what it is as well. :D

    I hate this algebra-based Physics I'm in now. I keep seeing short cuts in all the problems based on trig or calc and every time that I use them my professor bitches at me because I'm supposed to just be brute-forcing the basic methods

    It's so tedious that I'm finding a hard time actually putting half the time into my physics work that I put into Calc 2.

    That's how I should feel, but I'm putting double the effort into physics than I ever have in math... for some reason. I never crack the book open in math, shits fucking simple once I get into the right zone and start remembering shit. Physics is like a whole new beast to me though I think I'm just intimidated because in high school I did really bad in physics due to shitty teacher (seriously didn't teach, told us to go teach ourselves) and the tests weren't math based at all... mostly history. On top of the math based ones being just flat out wrong. The guy was smart and knew a shitload about everything but goddamn if he couldn't teach. Not to mention your grade was directly proportional to the size of your boobs and amoutn of cleavage shown per day.

    Chemistry is physics little brother. Physicist will do all the hard work for you and give you the easy stuff!

    Or at least, it's my biased impression of thing!

    It's hard to comment because I have no idea what class you're taking, but sometime, things make a lot more sense a few years later.

    I know I was bitching in highschool when our teacher would forbid us to use calculators, but now...I can totally see why. There is time where the "long" methods has its advantage over shortcut that can't be generalized.

    Now, I'm not going to lie, there is a lot of shitty teachers who ask for useless stuff. If you understand the method, using shortcut is usually fine if you can justify it, but it can backfire in a slightly more complex scenario if you get used to shortcut, and not the complete methods.

    Yeah, algebra-based physics really sucks when you know calculus. Why didn't you go straight to calc-based physics?

    This is Kaylia and me in 20 years.

    Though I'd probably go after the engineering department first.

    It is Calc based physics - the professor just decided that we should be algebraically reinforced and is excluding like 99% of the calc.

    @sath
    You wont see much calculus for the first year. Most students wouldnt be able to use concept like energy/momentum when they just got into calculus.
