Update! They are doing preliminary tests and the LHC has reached optimal operational temperatures without any problems :DDDD Particle collisions officially start in 5 weeks, let the countdown begin!
- You can follow the LHC's progress at: CERN Bulletin
They're not even gonna crank that baby up past halfway for a looong time though. Will be interesting seeing if anything novel comes out of there.
*waiting anxiously for confirmation that the higgs is not hiding in any of the remaining likely energy levels*
Well the good news is that if conformal gravity is right and all space-time curvature is due to quantum effects, then classical black holes can't exist.
I was browsing that Bulletin and thought I'd add this as well, to anyone who's interested in the more philosophical and sociological aspects of CERN (like me):
"Grayling’s - Professor of Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London, and presenter of the forthcoming BBC series -"Exchanges at the Frontier" - interview with Virdee is part of a series of events at Welcome Trust Collection in London: five of the biggest names in the world of science will discuss the social impact of their discoveries. These events will be broadcast to over 40 million people worldwide in December 2009 by the BBC World Service in the framework of the Exchanges at the Frontier series."

There's a cool short snippet-like video interview at the bottom of the page.
Edit: something's wrong with the link >.> one sec...OK fixed.
I am curious to see the public's reaction once it "goes live" again.
why has no religious nutcase blown it up yet like in "contact"
MIZZLE MY NIZZLE!
Quarkino particle!
Tell me what you were talking about before!
Rethinking relativity: Is time out of joint? - space - 21 October 2009 - New Scientist
Pretty interesting article.
Some of the first evidence that shows possible holes in General Relativity. Specifically a changing relationship between time, space, and gravity over large areas.
Im pretty excited about it, seeing as it goes along with several of my premises.
Where the hell have you been?
Relativity can't be wrong, it must be the data!
With quantum mechanics not doing so well, and relativity falling apart, the next few decennies might be more interesting than I expected them to be. I can't wait to see where this is going.
@ Woozie: Deploying to afghan, so out of the loop for a while. Will be a bit scarce for a bit, but should have a bit more time for comments once im settled in country. Good news is Ive packed 2 crates of physics books for the deployment.
Wow 2 crates? Very nice :D You be safe over there man, seriously. Everytime you get deployed I think of that fool that "wished for you to be killed in action" lol. Not to be on some gay shit but that would not be cool at all bro.
So yeah, be safe.
Also, the dark energy reference in that article brings up an interesting point to which Max just alluded to. I will explain a thought I had to you Max when I get back to my office or when I finally get back home. I am standing on top of a 31 story building as we speak setting up a sky pilot wireless antenna for a client of mine at the moment.
But anyway I promise we will get it soon lol. But while I am waiting let me ask you this, how does (if at all) dark matter or energy fit into your model and what do you think of it as a whole? That goes for anyone, not just Max. It'll give me something to read while I am up here freezing my ass off. Are you in favor or it? Shit sux? etc... There are not wrong answers, just looking for opinions basically.
