I always cower in fear when a chemist or biologist is in a discussion. It's been so long since I've taken any classes in those subjects that I just have no idea what they're talking about, and they use big words like us physicists use equations (Not a jab at you Shiro, I'm just highly uneducated on the subject and it makes me sad, because it is a fascinating science).
Well, pretty soon I'll have a paper saying I know a couple of things about microbiology and biochemistry.
The lack of equations actually does make it much harder to people outside the area, and even people outside of your specific area. I'm not saying it's more complicated than physics, but things get much more complex much more quickly. Things are highly abbreviated as well, and knowledge of one process doesn't necessarily mean you'll even be able to extrapolate it to a related but different process.

I personally think it would be too fast to notice. Assuming that the big rip would happen at the speeds and velocities we see currently in our current rate of expansion or even faster, then there would be nothing to see at all. It would just be ... over.
Then again, at some point over the next Billion Trillion years as we continue dealing with cosmic inflation we should see fewer and fewer galaxies and stars in our night sky as they would be moving away from us as we continue to expand.
Either way it would be cool and I wouldnt mind being around going out that way.
If I had a choice out go out in Cosmic style and love every minute of it. I hop on a rocket and self spaghettification myself in a heartbeat if it were for Science purposes lol.
We're all forgetting that we'd have to move to a planet other than Earth to see the big rip, since the sun would swallow us long before that'd happen![]()
I envy physicists and cosmologists because of terms like gluon and spaghettification.
Don't forget WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particle).

That's one of the bad things about science. The various fields in it don't mingle very well with the others. A physicist has his equations, a chemist has his chart, a biologist has his words. None mean anything to the other unless if they have a background in two/all three fields.
Physicist suck at comming up with cool sounding words. It's not like biology where when something new is discovered, it gets this huge impressive sounding name.
In physics, we get "up" "down" "top" "bottom" "strange" and "charm". Not complicated sounding or scientifically sounding at all.
Notice how "gluon" looks very similar to "glue"? That's not a coincidence. The particle really is called a glue -on (we put "on" at the end of our particles). When we discovered nuclear force, we didn't give it complicated names. We called it "red" "blue" and "green". Quantum Chromodynamics sounds impressive to people until they realized you said "chromo" and not "chrono". Then they're like, "are you talking about colors? wtf?"
Then we have MACHOS and WIMPS as the larger and smaller constituents of dark matter.
Instead of coming up with a cool name for super particles, we just call them "sparticles". And we just add an S to the beginning of the name of bosons and "ino" to fermions (so the sparticle of electrons are "selectrons" since selectrons are bosons, and the sparticle of photons are "photinos").
Seriously, based on these names you'd think half of quantum field theory and the standard model was invented by children.
Yeah, I like the fact that it seems like physicists can have fun with naming things.
I also like the child naming convention, makes things much easier to understand and remember.
It makes it easier for us to remember, but it makes it harder to explain to others. Have you ever tried to explain to someone that electrons have spin but can't spin? If it wasn't called spin it wouldn't be so confusing to explain.
Then when you start talking about color that has nothing to do with color it really confuses people lol
But now that I think about it, if they had long, complicated names like stuff in chemistry or biology it would be even harder to get people to listen.
In Cosmology we usually refer to things by size. "Super", "Super Massive", "Large", "Giant" etc....
I lucked out and got an awesome professor.
Someone needs to find that video of NDT explaining why he's so good with the media and physics. He was explaining to a reporter how stars wobble, and did a little wobble-dance, and the only thing the reporter quoted him on was "stars dance like humans!" or something along those lines lol.
EDIT: And when I'm explaining spin to someone who doesn't have a physics background, I usually use the playing card analogy. You can spin a queen half way around and it looks exactly the same as when you didn't rotate it. There is spin of 1/2. Spin of 2 is trickier to explain and I haven't found a good one yet.
