Yes and no. Advanced was just for drama and news updates. Standard for was FFXI relevant questions and concerns.

Standard was changing to that anyways with all the math people trying to shove your numbers in everyone's face. In short, the "What's Better" topic should be it's own section.

The whole problem with advanced before was that anyone who created a shitty thread here by definition viewed themselves as "advanced players" and their topic worthy of stimulating discussion, when it usually wasn't. Standard at least had useful or interesting information percolate up into the shitty threads on a fairly regular basis. It was the best section of the forums for FFXI info but whatever, things were fine before it was originally split off into newbie and all the ffxi info went in one big section, too lol

From an outsiders view this is how it would look like:

Advanced = new information
Standard = recovery of new information (old information - ask for help - archive - etc)

But this was never established(or at least, established well.) People just thought Advanced was for masturbation and Standard was where people were serious. But oh well, masturbation is a lot of fun I guess.

While I'm quite confident my proposed topic would indeed stimulate minds and would very much encourage discussion, other people may shit on it for any number of reasons. Advanced has a certain very unforgiving crowd, whereas Standard wasn't so harsh. I'd like to avoid a page full of "GO TO HELL NOOB!" from the "posting elite" or warning or bans from Moderation for posting a topic that I believed was suitable but others don't.

Also, again with my proposed topic, with the crowd here and that of Alla being quite different the question at hand would most likely see quite different and varying responses.

So I guess the real question that I would ask is: What is defined as "Advanced"? Endgame only?

Just looked at the tag for the forum and it says "Endgame FFXI, Events, advanced theories." So am I wrong in taking that as saying everything else can just fuck off from BG now?
