And blame the spam forum for it regardless of the culprit.

Anyway, I'm mostly in agreement with BRP here. We've pretty much done everything there is to do as a community and that's why Advanced is stagnant for the two months in between the update notes > update > testing/bug report cycle. We should understand that and not create artificial activity in Advanced when it's not necessary.

If What's Better becomes it's own section, it would mean easier searches since you can select the section. It would also bring the option of gear guides.

I agree with this. I've wondered at times why there wasn't just a section specifically for Update notes. Also wondered why the Relic thread wasn't moved to Media since it seems most at home there these days where Relic is more and more common.

Biggest thing I don't like about the new changes is how cluttered the section looks/feels now. The event section was one of the better sections since it was generally easy to find whatever you needed without having to use search.

I know it doesn't matter, but if it were up to me I'd go back to the old way and change Advanced to an "Official" type section. Include update notes and announcements as well as a thread for current known issues. Also only allow mods (and select others like Elmer & Berticus) to create threads to prevent shitty topics from being made.

Edit: I also don't see why the WotG section stayed and not Events considering the WotG section has very low activity.

Advanced gets out of control = people bitch.
Advanced goes on lock down = people bitch.

The mods are doing fine, and have more important things to do. It shouldn't be their priority to 'fix' a 'broken' advanced just so people can get their fix on trying to humiliate someone in an online forum.

That's cool, never noticed it. Still would like a gear section for discussion though. Nice feature to know though.

    Edit: Forum has features now.

Just going to google and searching like:

    Code:
    "uggalepih pendant" site:bluegartr.com
Always gives me better results than the awful vbulletin search function.

Does typing "Site:Site Name here" work for any website? Does it limit results to those within a website?

Uh, why is it even a bad thing that advanced was (is) nothing but a drama repository? Besides being entertaining, it's been a more or less accurate cultural barometre for FFXI and as someone else has already pointed out, after two thirds of a fucking decade that's more interesting to alot of us than factual (or dubious; the math guys are mostly quacks) information about game mechanics.

BG seems to have these stupid pretentions about being the brilliant vanguard of an admiring community forging into the unknown with pioneering stratagems or some wash. Like how the post count requirement in advanced is supposed to breathe some prestige into posting there but actually does nothing but preserve existing cliques and individual popularity. Protip: that prestige only existed in contrast to cesspools like alla, stratics of ffxionline and is thus highly fictional and exagerrated. I ask, if advanced didn't have this lofty self-image of being some kind of haijin fag utopia where every thread had a concrete and easily identifiable use, how much worse would it be when people can just enjoy some weekend HNM drama or trolling about game theory like they fucking used to?

BG and advanced are not a shining fucking beacon for the masses. It hasn't been the scene for any ground breaking new game discovery for ages, in large part because there's nothing particularly interesting in FFXI to be uncovered, and I can quote VZX on that one. It'd be better for everyone if those delusions of grandeur were flushed. And forums are not supposed to be peaceful and well manicured like your prissy back lawn. I look at threads like Urat's official AV thread or Poof's Nyzul guide as being some of the most useful on the board precisely because they have trolling and derision in them and were nothing resembling constructive.

EDIT: Would a thread about PUP advice be advanced? How about a 100+ page one?

EDIT: How about a thread where people complain about not having their favorite items drop?

EDIT: Would a thread about people showing off Relic weapons be advance?
I will admit, SOME of the threads in standard were more advanced, the math and theorycrafting certainly belonged in advanced but were relegated to standard because there wasnt a clear method of getting them into advanced because shitcocks just said "this isnt advanced gtfo".

SMN burning isnt advanced, its a leveling technique with good results that can and cant get you banned, depends on if the people doing it are stupid enough to take mobs from other people and if the GM called is NA or JP. Its one of those things you shouldnt be asking about because whenever you do some other guy wants an explanation about it and then more and more people are doing it. Its fight club, keep it that way.

PUP discussion can be advanced as long as its people who are doing the thread and properly adding in the math and discussion about it. Talking about gearsets, best gear, proper gear, when and where to use specific bodies, all that nice shit. PUP itself isnt advanced but then again dont we only use the same 6 jobs for everything in the game anyway? (PLD BLM RDM BRD WHM SAM)

People bitch to bitch, they can bitch about their shit not dropping all the time, get TH4 and just wait.

Relic weapons always promote discussion and discourse at the same time, and considering the amount of discourse that is actually pulled out of the thread, youd be suprised.

Basically, Standard is the new Advanced, thats why its "The New Advanced". The same rules still apply, keep it regarding the end game area and keep it civil. And mods can ban remember, if you think its an excuse to be a dick about everything.

So basically, Salvage duping all over again?

Anyway, if something is not Advanced, it doesn't get posted on BG, period?

I don't so much care about advanced and standard being merged as I do the event forum with the strategies.

I rather enjoyed being able to easily scan the event section for information on bc's, salvage, einherjar etc, now I have to sort through every damn random post to find shit.

Why did everything need to be lumped again?

I don't think anybody had a problem with advanced being a drama repository. Don't forget, the popularity of this website was founded upon big kills, "hnm" videos like carby mitts, vin diesel, and one HELL of a lot of drama.

I remember having an argument after faf drama in some random thread, and it literally being removed from that thread... and made into its own entire thread in advanced.

First off, the post count requirement has absolutely nothing to do with "prestige," or anything of the sort. It's called spam prevention. It also serves to limit the unbelievably stupid posts that would get closed near instantly in standard, but would get 5 pages of "lol" "o rly," and all the other post count +1 bullshit that wastes forum space in advanced.

You know what the real problem with post count is? People with low post counts tend to be intimidated simply by high post counts. They have no clue the difference between someone like me, who has admittedly added very little to the ffxi content, but participated in endless general discussions, and someone like Rukenshin, whose input was utterly invaluable to the progression of the NA FFXI community.

You assume that post count is what earns the respect someone like him receives, when nobody would give a shit if he posted his livejournal here once and never posted again, if we still got the same amount of information and raw understanding from him, his 2nd post would have been every bit as well received as his 1000th.

In other words, honestly nobody gives a shit about post count unless they have a low one, and look at it like a zit on their nose or something.

Protip: that prestige only existed in contrast to cesspools like alla, stratics of ffxionline and is thus highly fictional and exagerrated. Admittedly, there is a rather large chunk of incredible douchebaggery. However, the reality is that for a few years now, nearly everything happens here first. Sure, there are those that won't post their new information-- that comes with the territory of a massive audience in a competitive game. But when it comes to missions, quests, new nm's, new events, etc. etc., if you want the information the day it comes out, BG is where you go now.

You don't really think everyone was upset about otherwiki getting money because they actually provided original information do you? Both wikis, perhaps even more otherwiki than bg wiki, are filled to the brim with information taken directly from this forum.

BG and advanced are not a shining fucking beacon for the masses. It hasn't been the scene for any ground breaking new game discovery for ages, in large part because there's nothing particularly interesting in FFXI to be uncovered, and I can quote VZX on that one. BG and advanced *DON'T WANT* to be a shining beacon for the masses. BG wants to be a fun internet forum, particularly for current or former players of FFXI. Advanced wants to keep out retardation.

It's really that simple, and people trying way too hard to overthink it and turn the high school drama shit from a part of what defines the internet and the world in general into the single defining feature of everything they participate in.

This is why we can't have nice things, dammit.

not to mention almost everything anyone's benefited from in the game that competition might diminish gains from, from bird camp to fishbotting rusty caps, and far from just on BG

Not in response to any particular post here, but "Advanced" literally turned into posting game update threads. Only thing remotely interesting (Aside from the threads about new gear/missions/mobs that came out once every 2-3 months) was the relic thread.

Shit was real boring, I'm glad forums were combined.

If you're really uncertain about whether you can post a thread, just as a MOD first. The MODs will obviously tolerate some threads such as Updates and even modifiers threads, but if it seems situational, just ask.

You also might want to ask yourself if your question will work for Random Questions/What's Better thread. Don't make an entire post dedicated to asking if Uggy Pendant is better than Elemental Torque if you're looking for a clear cut answer. I think the type of threads MODs want to see are those dealing with mechanics (math stuff), strategies for specific NMs/Events, updates, class guides (Like Star's DRG guide), and Children's Trading Card Games.
