MGS4 (Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, one of the finest console games ever made)
Rock Band 2 (!)
And though I hesitate to give it a "must play" rating, DMC4 has the best fighting system I've yet to play on PS3

I was highly disappointed with infamous. I wouldn't say it was bad by any means. But it wasn't as good as it was hyped.
Metal Gear Solid 4 was one of the best games of all time. Only listed number 3 on my top MGS titles but still one of the best games of all time imo.
Resistance 2 was fun and all but I just had more fun playing it with somebody else. I'd only recommend it if you could get it cheap.
Folklore is the SHIT. I fucking loved this game and it deserves a lot more credit.
Valkyria Chronicles is very fun to. Very beautiful and rich game that all should at least try. It as well deserves more credit.
Oh and did I mention MGS4?
MGS4 for sure.
inFamous is one of my favorite games, ever. I freaking HATE GTA and I love inFamous, if that gives you any indication.
LBP, but only if you have people to play it with. User created levels are awesome if you can find the good ones. IGN makes good lists of those.
I won't comment on any RPGs like Valkyria Chronicles, because frankly, after FFXI I can't play an RPG for more than an hour at a time. I've only gotten like 2-3 hours in Fallout 3.
Warhawk is great fun with friends.
Resistance is very good, not very great.
Killzone 2 was fun for a while also, but I think I got bored of it faster than most.
I think most of the other important ones were covered above.
thanks everyone so far, a lot of interesting comments and helpful suggestions.
i think i will borrow MGS4 and killzone 2 from a friend and see if i can find a site to import blaz blue... seems to be sold out on every site i checked.
definately gonna check out folklore when i find it cheap, and valkyria chronicles is also on the to do list.... as is infamous... (i wonder if i'll actually find the time to play all that stuff...)
also, i agree on the DMC comments, very very fun game, but unfortunately the story mode is pretty repetative![]()
Don't listen to BRP. Flower is a great experience. As a 'game' yes it is weak, but its about the ride. Its hard to talk about without spoiling it, but for such a simple game, it can be breathtaking.
They are both cheap but it depends on where you look. For example the Wal-Mart near me sells Folklore for $19 while the best buy near me sells Folklore for $59. I got em both at gamespot for like $10 but that was used. I think as long as you don't go to best buy you should find each of these games for as cheap as you legally can get.
hahahahahahaha
This speaks for itself. EDIT: But I can't resist:
Taking a shit is a great experience. As a 'game' yes it is weak, but its about the ride. Its hard to talk about without spoiling it, but for such a simple game, it can be breathtaking.
So OP, please take a shit on your PS3. That is what playing Flower is like.
Rather than play Heavenly Sword, just play DMC4 or something similar.
Also: Demon's Souls is a great game.
Walmart.com lists Folklore at 56 bucks.... so you must have been hell of lucky to see it for 19.
Used Folklore 22 bucks on amazon + free shipping or 18.00+4shipping so the same thing
Amazon.com: Used and New: Folklore
Valk's listed on walmart for $40 (sold out, and sold out within 100 miles of me), amazon lists it for 60~ used its about 40~
Newegg lists it for 42.00 and free shipping (also no tax in most states)

I forgot about Demon's Souls. It's a good game and I really do appreciate a challenge, but the difficulty really is offputting for a lot of people, myself included. I love the idea of playing over and over until I get good enough to beat the level/stage/game, but I wish I could turn down the difficulty to play through once for the story, then go back through on the normal difficulty to really become an expert at it.
Still, that's a minor complaint I suppose, tbh I still hope they don't dumb it down when they release it in the US.
edit: As for cheap games at walmart/target/kmart they really are YMMV, usually you see games cheap when they're on clearance since stores like that only have so much room on their shelves to hold games in comparison to bestbuy/gamestop which devote entire sections to them. Your best bet for Folklore is to shop around online or buy a used copy.
Most have been posted, but backing up what was said: MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata, Bioshock, Folklore, Warhawk, Killzone 2, Demon's Souls, Uncharted, Fallout 3, (If you don't have it on another platform).
Games yet to be released but are looking to be awesome games: White Knight Chronicles, Uncharted 2, Bioshock 2, ModNation Racers, Trine
PSN Games: Comet Crash, Pixeljunk (all of them are pretty good), Super StarDust HD, Savage Moon, Age of Booty, The Last Guy
Where do you live? The three main retail stores near me list it at $19 I can even take pics. The price is mostly determined by the company so I can't imagine they would decided one state to have such a low price and another to still be at retail price despite the game being years old.
Yeah, we got Folklore recently for pretty cheap.. around $20. Got Valkyria Chronicles for $30.
walmart/targets prices for their website and in-store are rarely the same. in my experience only gamestop (and I guess bestbuy) have prices that are the same both online and in-store, at least recently.
Ozz, and anyone else in that situation, please don't let the idea of Valkyria being an RPG keep you from buying it. It's a turn-based strategy game with a real-time method of moving your troops.
The whole storybook cutscene interlude between missions is just the game's way of revealing the plot. You can't control the plot development except if you fail a mission - in which case, go back and try again.
Experience is a generalized method of charting your army's progression, and individual levels only raise HP, occasionally give new abilities, and provide one class upgrade to each troop type.
It's not an RPG at all. It just has a lot of plot, and it uses some RPG terms in the game mechanics.
I am still holding out for Dawn of War III to use the CANVAS engine.
do not want!Eternal Sonata
edit:
We could say this for all too many games...It's not an RPG at all. It just has a lot of plot, and it uses some RPG terms in the game mechanics.
all too many...
I know I already posted this but I've been listening to the soundtrack for Alone in the Dark: Inferno for hours. I'm a pretty big survival horror fan, and while AitD doesn't feel like the typical survival horror I'm used to the game really was a blast to play. I think a lot of people overlooked it because the 360 version came out first and was riddled with bugs leaving it nearly unplayable. The bugs (most of them, anyway, I ran into 1 or 2) were fixed and complaints were addressed in time for the PS3 release (improved character/car/camera handling, pacing, additional story elements to explain things) but I think people mistook the complaints and low scores of the 360 version as evidence that the ps3 version was equally bad.
Anyway, the game is no masterpiece but it's got some neat gameplay elements (the inventory management/combination is nifty) and one of the best video game soundtracks I've ever heard (with vocals provided by Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares), you can hear the theme/main song here:
YouTube - The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices - Shto Li (Alone in the Dark)
I got the game for like 20 bucks (it's like 20-30 at most retailers now) but it's relatively short, around 10 hrs., so perhaps only worth a rental. The demo on PSN gives something of an idea of what gameplay is like but leaves off before you get to the more open/sandboxy parts of game and driving sequences.
Anyway yea, sorry for sounding like an ad but I was surprised with how much I ended up liking the game, wanted to pass it along.
edit: another song from the game. ok *scurries away*

Seriously flower is pretty good if you're stoned/drunk (especially with friends), and for the sake of $10 it's pretty worthwhile. It has good replayability if you have a lot of house parties and the like. The controls are easy, you can't fail at the game, and everyone can take turns. What more do you want?
I only have MGS and KZ 2 for my PS3, along with some PSN titles, but I have a lovefilm account and I get game rentals usually two to three times a month depending on how long it takes me to complete a game. It's a pretty sweet deal considering the amount of games out there, and the lack of money I have for buying games! Plus if you don't like the game, you just send it back and you get a new one back in 2-3 days.
A good game? Really there is little more to be said. It has a "weak game experience" lol. Saying it is a must-play is a mockery of the PS3, if not of all videogames in general. What more do you want?
EDIT: Just youtube it if you must FEEL the EXPERIENCE of a LIFE-TIME. FLOWER.
