What is the difference between "Must have" games and "really good/great" games?

must haves are for fanboys
- you buy it because it's Sqaure Enix
- you buy it because it's number ## of a series (this was mentioned by Falisa I think)
- you buy it for reasons not contained within the game or are peripheral (imo) like composer
- you buy it for one feature and ignore the flaws that inherently exist, ie good game engine but horrible replay or first playthrough

really good/great:
- undeniably good, unless you simply dislike things for being popular or too difficult
- great replay value
- beautiful production for the time that it's produced
- character development and believability are a plus but don't apply in all genres (who cares what Dhalsim is thinking?)
- lack of broken moves/characters/levels/bosses
- lack of terrible systems, like Draw of FF8
- something innovative is a plus but not necessary
- great music is a plus and so are cutscenes when used with discretion



but hey I'm a casual so this is really only a start

To be honest, I don't really define myself as a gamer or anything. I play video games, but I don't really care about the culture, and I'm not going to go out of my way to talk about them. I don't really define myself as anything.

And yeah, must have game is a game that looks good or is good so you would really like to own it, don't break things down until they don't mean a fucking thing.
