What will your goal be in FFXIV?

Build a much better linkshell, with higher standards from the beginning.
Be one of the first to devise a point rewards system for the DKP for it (maybe even go 'stock' with it), and come up with a strong ls charter/rule set.
fund some "relic" type items for worthwhile members (something I definitely desire in FFXI but it never flew in my ls)
Not let it all get to me after awhile.

find a way to take huge advantage of the newly formed economy and make mass gil?/money and either explore and do hnms or quit till economy subsides then buy everything i want.

Playable races look like the same races in FFXI with minor differences (tarus don't look exactly the same, but there is still a race of midgets) and you can clearly see galkas,humes and mithras in the trailer, and tons of pointy eared things in the concept art.

But seriously, I'll probably make a Galka Warrior, and my roommate will make an Elvaan White Mage, and we'll duo it up, and just pick up DPS for parties when it comes time.

wheres the option for building a portal into sea so we can unleash AV onto eorzea. If anything at first i'm taking it easy in 14. still playing with my same name again probably similar character design again too. provided SE brings sam back as a job i'll be playing it again. SE can strip us naked and toss into a cold baren new world but damn if i ain't finding the nearest GK to stick in my hands to kill things with.

atm i have at least 3 people i'm trying to get to play this. hoping to get my two buddies and my gf to play. maybe my bro too. if SE makes the game as solo friendly as they say they are trying to i may make my own ls and have 4 people coming into the game with me this time.

i ran into a few hardcore WoW players in my area that may actually go to playing 14 at release if its anything like SE is saying they wish to make it so far. then again it is SE. they always make shit sound amazing then make it mediocre. long as the soloing is good were fine.

Coming into XI in late 2007 as a WHM was already a daunting task for me, but the overwhelming endgame community on my server at the time (Hades) slowly influenced me to quit after about a year and a half. I just felt very rushed to catch up with everyone else in the game - as far as mission requirements and auction house prices went.

If XIV's content will share traits of XI's, then I look forward to casually progressing through the game's content as it is released. I especially look forward to playing with all of my friends that weren't interested in XI, but were ecstatic about the news of XIV.

You know, I've been giving this more and more thought. I pretty much have OCD when it comes to making sure I have the best gear for each level, even if that great will only be the best gear for one level and I need to upgrade again. This slowed me down quite a bit in XI.

For example when I was first able to wear sniper rings I made sure to farm up enough cash to get 2 sniper rings +1s and the same with scorp harness. And while I was wasting time farming for that gear others power leveled themself to end game and got themselves better rare/ex gear that they still use till this day.

Now back then I thought it made me a good player cause I was so anal on having great gear, but this time around I might turn into a lazy asshole like others. All depends on how the system is.

I just hated seeing people wearing shitty gear get to endgame and win gear from kings while I took my time.

The longer you take on leveling, the more content will be available at endgame...

Remember that FFXI had already been out for a year+ before you started (if it was on NA launch), so those rushing to endgame actually got an advantage.. but with FFXIV since it's completely new, those players rushing to the end will just find themselves get bored twice as fast due to lack of endgame events, so I don't think it's a smart move to do really.

too lazy to see if i responded to this yet, but:

1. play with people i never got to in 11, (rich, kirschy etc im lookin at you)

2. find a way to take advantage of the economy before its nerfed to hell. I busted my ass toward an apoc in 11, and quit before i finished my goal. I won't let that happen this time. From day 1 on i'll be the guy with the most gil (w/e money system it is) on my server.

I'm half hoping most of the main BG'ers all decide on one server.

I was actually thinking about moving to California and doing that. Except without the inconsistent part. I'm sure they will be hiring for NA GM positions for XIV eventually, anyone who wants to help fix their customer service should go try

Assuming that FFXIV does indeed launch simultaneously in Japan and America, your initial experience in FFXIV is going to be drastically different than your initial experience in FFXI.

While you won't be playing catch-up to the Japanese players, you also won't have an entire expansion worth of content (Zilart added more zones, eventually Sky, Kings, Dynamis, etc) to rush to and explore/participate in either.

Not that there is anything wrong with "rushing to endgame and being competitive", I just don't know how much of an endgame you are actually going to find in the short-term. Waiting on more details before I really decide how I want to play it, but the developers have already stressed a more casual atmosphere. All I really expect to find when the game comes out initially is some sort of massive campaign system.

Kinda sad, but this is the closest I've seen to my viewpoint. After a couple of years of ffxi, real life just won't stfu for 8 hours a day anymore.

For me its not necessarily end game content, its just being at a high level. Other then farming the main thing I did was helped others. That was pretty much how I got off back then, constantly helping low level players and listening to them praise me lol.

I'll probably try to max out whatever "job" I decide to start out with. Hopefully I can convince some of the friends I played 11 with to start 14 together and we can static up to level cap.

I personally think it would have been pretty epic to have gotten an alliance of level 50 people together and be among the first groups to take down Shadow Lord, Serket, Roc, etc. I expect something like that when 14 is first released.

Its pretty hard to say right now what my goals would be, especially with knowing so little about the game. I guess I'd aim for joining a social LS and exploring. I'm hoping my old FFXI friends will play too which should make the LS part pretty straight forward. I intend to just play it by ear though. I doubt there'll be much endgame included with the launch, so no point in darting up to the highest level as quickly as possible.
