Generally how things work in EVE. Anything else?
isnt that what people do in all MMOs now?
Never heard of RMT before?
There was a bigger theft a few years back where the amount lost was closer to 16000 U.S dollars but I can't find the story anywhere. Was a hell of a read too.
Now announcing the creation of the First Bank of Vana'diel.

Least the guy didn't back down about it. Shit, he even said he would do it again if he to. He may be an unscrupulous dickhead. But at least he's an honorable upfront unscrupulous dickhead.
Wait.....what?
Kids medical bills vs being a good friend to people in an online game. Easy choice really.
Looks like he only took enough to cover what he needed as well. I can't really fault the guy for making the same decision most of us would make in that situation.
Aren't there charities and such for that sort of thing?
Or like...bank loans?
It's arguably a victimless crime I suppose, one of those strange examples of extremely indistinct moral issues that arises from digital environments.
Eventually you have to ask where the line is drawn, if we all start producing money out of more or less thin air to pay our expenses. I guess you could make an analogy to perusing flea markets for antiques and selling them on ebay for a profit? But then again those antiques are made by someone else's manhours, just like the currency, but in the latter case you are not necessarily paying a fair ratio in compensation to those people with your monthly fee. Something to think about.
Sounds about right. Best part is CCP sanctions this kinda stuff :D

Wait... he wouldn't have been banned if he bought Kredits with real dollars even though trading in game cash for virtual currency is against ToS?Ricdic has now been thrown out of the game as trading in-game cash for real money is against Eve Online's terms and conditions.
The rules governing play within Eve would not have sanctioned Ricdic if he had simply stolen the cash and used it in the game, nor if he had bought kredits with real dollars.
Totally kosher with the ToS if you do it right.
I think you mean that massive Corp raid where the Mercs for Hire infiltrated and brought down the target Corp as part of a paid hit.
Iirc they didn't sell the credits they stole, the magazines who ran the article on the raid just used the RMT prices at the time to give it a sense of scale in real-money terms.
That's what we already do IRL, money is just magically fabricated by banks and the federal reserve and only has a value because we think it does...there's actually no line whatsoever between real currency and "virtual" currency besides number of venues that accept it as tender.
On topic, stealing because your kid is "dying" isn't any more moral or righteous because of it.
This is kind of a big deal in EVE, because this kind of behavior is a *huge*, extremely important part of the game. If people start doing it to rmt the shit all the time, the game will go to shit in a heartbeat.
It's not a big deal at all in EVE, this isn't FFXI.
rofl noobz
Etc.
