I've always been fascinated by the idea that someone can "front" a persona or something. It's odd to me. Isn't the act of fronting indicative of their personality? Isn't the act of fronting, in fact, a trait? Can you ever really say someone is not being themselves if they are being, full stop?

It's weird how people always seem to construe the idea of social sanctions inhibiting someone's words or actions as somehow that person being inauthentic in some way. I would be interested to know how these people arrive at the conclusion that one social context is more or less valid than another, and by what metric the "realness" of a person's actions and words is measured. Actually, that is rhetorical. The answer is fairly obvious.

It also seems a bit like hubris to say this as well--someone might not say something to you directly, but that doesn't stop them from thinking it. Which part of them, in this scenario, is the real one?
