Recent comp trouble
So about 2 weeks ago, lightning struck my comp, or so I was told, traveled through my DSL line and completely wiped the hard-drive and made me reinstall everything. I'm not a computer hardware kind of person, only software, so I pretty much have to rely on what the people who inspect my computer for problems tell me.
Reinstalled everything, but nothing is running smoothly like it used to. Even L4D/TF2 seem to be running slower then I remember and getting mad lag in even low populated areas. And this is with textures and models all set to commodore64 settings.
Is my computer most likely boned and have to get a new one? Or could I be missing a driver/program I had before and totally forgot? Didn't get to back up any of my files or programs so everything was lost and had to rely on my memory on what all I had at the time.

It's amazing that anything at all works after a surge... I'd run diagnostics if you have them, try a different video card and memory as well. It's likely that the surge messed up something. Try changing out parts until you find the culprit. Visually inspect everything too, if you see anything that looks like a burnt out capacitor you should replace the whole component.

Did that for the entire two weeks, the checking parts section, nothing actually looks damaged at all.
The fact that nothing is damaged after (if) it is hit by a surge makes me think it wasn't one. Just from out of the blue one day before a storm hit the comp just shut down and just went to shit. Lost Vista and everything on it. Almost like someone deleted everything on the computer.
Just ran windows updater which I forgot to do and it seems to be all back to normal or so it seems for the time being. Thanks for the help although, I'll try those other things and see if that won't help a little as well.
