I wish I had more spare time at this job like my last one, it'd be nice to get a lot of the real meat from Randomer ?/What's Better into an organized FAQ format, I know the wiki has a lot of the basic stuff which is great, but some sort of thing for questions like 'I have xxx Accuracy is it OK to trade it for xxx Haste?' and things like that which come up pretty often.

I think the transition could have been done more smoothly. The original sticky for "The New Advanced" was pretty vague. The new one is better, but i think it needs more specificity. So, no asking about how to cheat, and no personal stories about leaving and returning from the game but, is everything else fair game?

What constitutes "serious topics," and what does not?

"Endgame FFXI, Events, advanced theories." This is a merger of the Standard and Advanced sections, so i am still safe to ask, "Which weapons types should a Dark Knight use at which levels in exp parties?" for example.

However, I do appreciate that the forum is TRYING to change, and adopt a civil tone, no matter what the subject matter. /cheer

Not really sure what event you are referring to. The merge of Standvanced, or the splitting off of the news section? As far as kinda losing Standard, it's really not that huge a deal. I'm not completely sure of the motivation, but I guess this was just an attempt at creating a kinder, gentler BG. I will chuckle if suddenly Spam and General disappear and BG becomes a sanctioned SE community site.

It results in cliques, and bans, and trolls, but worst of all, it results in stagnation and a dwindling membership, and a complete absence of the Game Designers in their new found attempt to reach out to the playing public.

I'm of the opinion that the absence of the Game Designers has more to do with BG's unwillingness to accept the legal terms and conditions required for recognition as a community site. However, beyond this practical restriction is the unwillingness to behave.

BG has a generally cynical attitude towards SE, and while such sentiments may be voiced by individual posters on FFXI forums everywhere, on the BG forums it is a collective characteristic. The front page News postings are a hilarious example it (Tundra Colibri, SE Interview Generator, etc). Whether the playerbase's enmity is earned or not, it's there (it is my opinion it was well-deserved around the time of the Chains of Promathia release, and despite efforts to make up for it they've been suffering the fallout ever since).

And there are also certain lines the community tends to cross, such as the recognition of third party tools, or postings of links to Final Fantasy soundtrack rips. Again, while not unique to the BG forums, discussion of such things is especially open and free here. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that BG isn't underneath the SE's umbrella of official recognition, but there's a difference between being a rebel, and being a rebel without a clue.

I completely disagree. SE even has an account on these forums. If they wanted to post things here, it is completely within their power to do so. I always felt it had far more to do with SE's always cautious and non-outgoing behavior as opposed to BG not behaving properly.

In order for us to be a premier site we have to undergo certain requirements. I don't know all the rules (sono would have to clarify), and I remember one being we'd have to get rid of certain things, like the spam forum. I doubt any staff member would post here considering this.

the merger was needed and Ill say that because advanced was SHIT, standard was gold. I didnt so much as merge standard into advanced in that I merged the proper advanced player discussion with cool math and shit (Standard) into the Drama, news, elitist cockfag show (Advanced) and told the elitist cockfags to get the fuck out. News grew up, we gave it hugs, kisses, and cab fare and sent it off to its own new forum.

I wasn't referring to Premier Site status, I was refreshing to interaction with SE. If SE absolutely refuses to have interaction with any site that isn't a Premier one, I guess that changes things. That's more their choice though, since there has always been a lacking of candid interaction. The closest thing we usually get is pre-arranged interviews on generally specific slices of topics.

It's not a huge deal, and honestly I think you lose more signing up to be a Premier site than you gain. What do you really gain having more than one popular Premeir forum site anyway besides the same information posted in two places, or even worse, different 'doggy treat' interviews and information posted in different places so people have to keep searching for it?

that's my point though, I doubt they'd ever truly interact with us unless we were premier, and being premier isn't worth it.

Bleh, it makes me feel bad enough when my fiancee and I are talking about game stuff, using game terminology, and people look at us funny. I have heard 'What is a Limbus?' several times. I think I have only made the Dynamis typo a few times. The Refresh one is definately a first (I hope...).

Why must I always be reminded that I'm a nerd?
