Ordering HDMI cables

So, I took the advice mentioned elsewhere in this forum and skipped buying retail HDMI cables when buying my new TV.

I checked out monoprice.com but there's tons of options for any given length. There's like 22AWG-28AWG + 1.3a, category 2, etc. and I'm not too familiar with all that.

What would I need for just your normal HDTV + cable box, laptop, DVD player (all using HDMI) setup? That is, what among their giant list would be the equivalent of what I'd buy in the store (only cheaper)?

Contrary to what most retail stores will tell you, you don't need to spend a lot of money for great signal quality. Those days are long gone, now that everything is a digital signal.

Monoprice is a wholesaler, it's the same product you find in stores.
Retailers put on a HUGE amount of markup on their electronics.

If you haven't ordered yet, I have always found amazon.com to be cheaper for HDMI cables. I just had to order a 50' HDMI cable for my projector and picked it up at amazon for $32 shipped which is a bit cheaper than monoprice. For all other cables, use monoprice though.


For example... Amazon.com: HDMI (2 meter) 6 foot cable HQ 1080P 1.3b: Electronics
6 foot HDMI for 70 cents... yes $0.70 plus shipping.

All you need is to make sure it's 1.3b compliant which has the fastest throughput of HDMI on the market currently (oddly enough no device can support the speed so it gets throttled back anyway, but at least your future ready).



edit: Here are 6 foot cables for 26 cents plus shipping (and shipping is usually less than monoprice shipping also. Plus these are sold by Abacus 24-7 whom I've had good luck with in the past.

When I followed the first link, I got the same item but a different seller. I bought the item in your first link, but it was only $0.22 instead of $0.70. It was from Abacus 24-7 though. I went ahead and ordered 3 of them. $9 shipping, but hey, I'm not complaining. 3 6-foot HDMI cables for $10 is pretty nifty.
