    Reinstalling FFXI; Questions!

I'm sorry if I missed a thread elsewhere explaining this already, if I did just link me to it and close the thread..

I'm getting my brand spankin' new computer (that hopefully works!) tomorrow and I plan to reinstall FFXI on it. Since I don't have the original FFXI/RoZ discs what is the quickest method of downloading them and the POL viewer?

Also, to avoid lengthy updates is there an easy way to copy files from my current computer onto a disc.. and onto new computer? Or would it be faster/easier to just update via POL the lengthy way?

Tbh I would just buy a cheap Collection disc... I like to keep one around for this reason. I just generally install the discs and then copy paste the ROM folders from my up to date copy of POL I keep on my external HD.

Are you going from vista to vista and the same versions, like 32bit vs 64? If so, it'll be relatively easy to copy over.

You'll need to disable UAC if in vista, and the registry entry will be located somewhere in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node if you're in a 64bit system.

Thanks. Someone in my LS said I could download the files from POL main website? Not sure.. can't look up POL at work since its considered "Gaming" (even though BG isn't filtered, whoo lol).

I'm actually going from XP 32 Bit to Vista 64 bit.. so I may just have to buy a collection disc like Uryuu said.. and just bite the bullet and download all the updates. It shouldn't be "too" bad if I just leave it downloading while I'm at work.

    Thanks for the input guys.

You can~ go from 32 to 64, but requires more trickery where in the end, it might not be worth it to troubleshoot when things dont work. It might be as easy as adding the wow6432node into your exported reg file from your 32 bit system, but I tried walking a friend through this once, took hours and updating would've been faster lol.

Yah, that's what I'm thinkin'.. by the time I could install and update everything from scratch I would probably still be working on transfering files and working out the kinks and issues. :-/ I's not very technically inclined when it comes to software and stuff.

So I'm guessing that going from a laptop with Windows Xp to a new laptop with Windows Vista would be a giant pain in the ass? I'm asking because I might pick up a new laptop pretty soon, so I was just wondering if there was any point in transferring the POL files to my external hard drive at all.
