Well since KJ / MT share a lot of the same gears I think this gives me a good excuse to fully gear for KJ most of the time.

    Victory.

Regarding KJ vs. RR, on Mamool you can't really get high enough dDEX for RR to matter. I'd say Mamools are pretty much the only things you'd use KJ on. Either RR or SC win on high level stuff like uh, non-merit mobs (due to level correction) depending on your WS ACC and exact attack/defense/level.

Crit chart: I made it in excel. Info (from tests) not mine. Excel graphs are EASY and SIMPLE. For what it's worth, from all of my merit parses w/ varying dDEX (MNK, NIN, WAR) the graph pretty much works. Keep in mind, y-axis is the additional +crit you gain from DEX, on top of what is believed to be a 5% base critrate, and lump sum +crit (merits, weapon, grip, etc.). Someone mentioned once it didn't exactly work out against DC mobs: I personally suspect a higher base crit% on lower stuff, but that could be bullshit.

Something I want to talk about: Wivre. I think they're weak to piercing. Discuss.

This may sound dumb, but could you maybe take a job that has equal skill in a piercing and non-piercing weapon, find ones of each class with equal base D and no other attack boosts, and parse average damage per hit? Like WAR with...Flanged Mace and Venom Kukri +1 or some shit?

I've seen Slug Shot do somewhat high #'s to Wivres when Attack Down is off but haven't really done enough to make any judgement on damage type weakness.

I've noticed extremely good Drakesbanes to 'em for a while which had me wondering, decent Pentas from SAMs... and this one time, in band camp, I SVed minuets on my bardmule for some epeen Colibri Pentas (and the fuckers pulled a wivre) my Penta did exactly 18xx (1 DA each, first hit didn't miss) to both a Bri and a Wivre, Warcry/Berserk and said Minuets up for both. If attack/defense is no real issue due to so many buffs (and Dia II :3) the probability of them doing the same damage with the same gear (and less fSTR on the Wivre even, no doubt) is close to zero if you assume normally (normal pDIF distribution) the WS on the Colibri does 25% more damage. Other posters know more about the pDIF high/low distribution anyway, they can easily confirm.

Reason I haven't really tested a lot of Pentas on Wivre myself (besides this anecdotal shit) is that I usually use Fort Axe when the party is good enough to chainrape Wivre.

I'll go grab a heavy darksteel axe for the same DMG as Gondo, and use that and Gondo for a bit when I'm getting SV minuets/Berserk up and I'll make sure Dia is on. Parse average crit damage for capped PDIF and then see if the 25% checks out.

I guess on that note, how does Fort Axe compare to Perdu for merits? I normally only break mine out for Limbus.

I did a small test a while ago for fort vs. byakko and while fort was a lot more fun byakko won by a very small amount, so perdu would definitely win. However, it won't be by any drastic amounts I'd imagine assuming you have a solid WS build. So if you get more enjoyment out of fort go for it.

    On to my question:
For thf ws which body would be better, Heca (12 str 10 acc) vs ACP (5 str/dex/agi 10 atk/acc)?
For war ws I currently use Hauberk for RR and Shadow breastplate for SC and KJ would I want to use heca over shadow for KJ?

Did it use Boiling Blood? A majority of those raep Drakesbanes/Pentas that you see are probably after it's used that, giving them berserk and making them almost as squishy as Colibris.

Brutal doesn't so much gimp the Ridill as Ridill gimps the Brutal I believe, Ridill is going to proc the same as it normally does, that just leaves less opportunity for Brutal to proc. Fowling/Minuet may be a tad better depending on your accuracy.

I don't know about WAR ear choices, but I do know that Brutal doesn't "gimp" ridill, it just doesn't help it like it helps a non-ridill user.

Basically, if you swing 200 times with a regular weapon, brutal adds 10 hits on average. If you swing 200 times with ridill, brutal adds 1 hit on average. So it's not that you're not losing anything, but you're only getting 1/10 the normal benefit. Someone else can hopefully answer how that stacks up against the other ear choices.

Edit: From that hand. You obviously still get the full benefit on mainhand.

It's actually kind of the opposite. DA procs leave less opportunity for Ridill to proc. So that means, in the 200 attack rounds I mentioned, Brutal makes you DA 10 times, which is 10 times that your Ridill won't have a chance to occasionally attack 2-3 times. Had the ridill been permitted to fulfill its purpose in those 10 attack rounds, it would have swung once on 3 of them, twice on 5 of them, and three times on 2 of them, amounting to a total of 19 attacks--one less than the 20 you got from the 10 DAs.

But that one swing in 200 rounds is not nearly as large of an increase as compared to that enjoyed by someone using a single-hit weapon, whose DAs are the only occasion on which they occasionally attack twice, so they are going from 10 swings to 20 in those ten rounds, rather than 19 to 20.

Hollow Earring > Minuet Earring (when applicable) > Assault Earring / Fowling Earring, is my guess.

If lucky, can get something like or very close to Hollow from ACP.

Hollow only better than minuet earring on non 2hand when you're not high enough to make a diff in your crit rate and your dex isn't odd before adding minuet (if it is odd, will add exact same acc).

For DW, Minuet can be better than hollow when your dex is at a point where you'd get +1 acc extra from the dex, but not +2 extra from 2 dex.

This is provided you have minuet on, of course.

    Quick question about bard.

Finally decided to spend the 3.5m and upgrade my Marduk's Tiara, should I be using it over af2 hat for debuffs? Or will the +5CHR be better than the extra 2 skill?

    Thanks!
