Just a mod that knows dick about Red Mage merits, preaching how 'good' Red Mages should merit themselves.

And comparing it to a 10 min convert is silly, all the good RDMs have it at 6:40. During which time sublimation can only give you about 250 mp.
according to what I remember convert caps at around 8:20 or 9:10 not sure, but definitely not 6:40 + i dont see why a rdm would cap this unless he tanks as rdm, there are m.acc merits in the same category.

now even though its 400mp/10min for sublimation, the main point still that whm do not or SHOULD not run out of MP if they know what todo, there are whms that spams cure V and IV, and whms that use regen, cureII,cureIII and curaga/cura.

I think it also depends how good are the melees, I mean for example on birds dia II and elegy should make birds reflect twice and 0-1 TP move before they get killed, so not much cure needed. unless the melees sucks then yea I can see a problem here.

Replace elegy with a threnody prz. Nothing irks me more than elegy pulls when the mob is going to die in 15ish seconds anyway, and anyone not gimping it up /nin will be eating the Elegy reflect most pulls (and no I don't want to hear that the mages should be erasing it... waste of mp and time)

    @Callisto:

I don't think you know what trolling is. The "trolling" that we're watching for is unnecessary heckling of legitimate threads, not a disagreement over how RDMs spend their merits.

Implying incompetence due to different merit distribution isn't 'disagreeing', its trolling. And if you're going to take inappropriate shots at others' playerablility, don't give the wrong figures.

Convert 5/5 gives you a 8:20 Convert timer and I would consider it the best out of group 1 alongside ice accuracy since wind is meh.

Solo: Gravity is used either as an emergency or to speed up kills. Convert 8:20 aids greatly in killspeed and emergency situations and just makes you more sustainable as a whole. Mobs begin to resist Gravity or some resist it outright; you can't "resist" Convert.

Support: Convert 5/5 just gives you that extra MP to throw around and less stress about your MP pool. Gravity is easy to land on anything you need to land it on here, merits or not.

Silence is either gonna be easy to stick or nigh on impossible ... not worth spending merits on. Aero nukes < Blizz nukes.

Best merit party setups I've had have been DRK WAR SAM BRD COR RDM and DRK(Apoc) DRK SAM BRD COR RDM. THF THF WAR BRD COR RDM is pretty hot too!

Waste of time; COR roll is too important. Have BRD use SAM roll.

You yourself said 2 threads probably wouldnt even exist based on title alone and started off the post with "You're lucky I decided to make a joke instead of locking the thread."

    So as I said earlier:

I know what it means, that's why I said I was curious as to if you typo'd/mismathed or purposely said RDMs should have an impossible amount of recast merits just to be a jackass, lol.

I wouldn't call having maxed Convert recast reduction while still having the ability to consistently land debuffs on HNMs "knowing dick about RDM merits."

And if you think a debate over our disagreement in merit distribution is trolling because I said good RDMs merit it, then I welcome you to Advanced.

As for my mod status, I'm not modding you, I'm debating you. By the way, it's ok if you imply RDMs who merit Convert recast are poor RDMs, because I can take it. I know the difference between trolling and arguing. But saying I know dick is more of a troll than saying good RDMs merit Convert.

Pretty standard Tomoe 5 Hit. Give or take the +1's/Love Torque and maybe swapping around the back piece depending on Pole merits.
You are past accuracy cap with sushi, and nowhere near without. This is a little dependent on pole merits/etc, but you can def drop Minuet Earring and pick up Merman's (furthermore, you shouldn't have minuet in a bard+cor party), and can probably drop toreadors and TP in a lolstr ring (ya I know, TPing in str rings is wtf? But so is being past accuracy cap). These are both assuming sushi.
If you aren't using sushi, you need Cuch Mantle at the very least, but I don't think your build there without sushi is very good at all.

For your WS sets, you are past accuracy cap also /w sushi, should switch to things like Usu leg, warwolf belt, iota ring (you are 15acc past cap assuming 0 merits in this set atm, 9 more than that in your TP set?)

    Light Arts, Penury.
I think a red mage is better, but I think the only thing worth mentioning for a merit party that a rdm brings is dia3. The rest is just mp/mp efficiency, which is countered by intelligent play as much as anything else. Use of Regen, penury charges, resting at the proper time, even if it's just 1 tick, etc...

    comes down to:
6 hit vs 5 hit: sam
jumps/med vs better mediate: even really
A+/Acc bonus II vs B-/DA: drg
    Drakesbane vs Overwhelm penta: even
    Wyvern/Better Polearms vs nothing: drg
So 20% more ws/zerk vs wyvern/56 acc/7~10 WD, and I've yet to see a sam beat me, and I am still missing some stuff for drg.
    6hit with a 492 weapon vs 5hit with a 480 weapon.
Also, your jumps/med vs better med isn't even at all, in 5 minutes:
2 meditates for the sam is +300TP, which is 3.75 extra WSes.
1.6 meditates and 6 jumps is barely over 2 extra WSes (5 jumps is 1 WS, 1.6 meditates is 96TP, which is ~1 WS, and you have 1 jump past that).
Both are accuracy capped. As I said in my post, assuming the sam eats sushi, and the dragoon eats meat, the sam actually has -more- accuracy in his TP set. Worst case for the dragoon, he has to use an Ace's helm, and is now 1% haste behind the sam.
Drakesbane vs Overwhelm: I'll agree this is close to even.
    Wyvern/worse polearms: drg

Samurai should be WSing ~40% more often. You left off 10% DA, you ignore the 12 delay difference, you think that 3.75 and 2.25 extra WSes is the same.
But yea, all berserk does is try to make up the ~85 attack the dragoon has over the sam., but the sam has so much more going for it.

An accuracy bonus when the target is missed.

How many optimal parties have DD under accuracy cap?

Disregard any parties where Wolfknight suggests that 85% accuracy is perfectly fine, as they are not optimal.

Don't forget that earth accuracy helps slow as well.

This is the main reason RDM would merit convert, but it's limited to solo, but i think this is pertaining to merit set ups, where fully meriting convert is not very useful.

Support: Convert 5/5 just gives you that extra MP to throw around and less stress about your MP pool. Gravity is easy to land on anything you need to land it on here, merits or not.
i still don't see the point, there havn't been many sitations in a support role i was riding that timer, unless every dd was /war or needlesy sponging MP. other then that, my timer has been up many times even after i'v used more mp then i should, however i am a dalmy/morrigan/af2 rdm, so i guess people without those will have a harder time keeping mp. so i can half way see your point.

Silence is either gonna be easy to stick or nigh on impossible ... not worth spending merits on. Aero nukes < Blizz nukes.
i agree with this one, if somthing does resist silence it ussualy isnt going to stick, if it does, ir almost always lands. it's still not a bad option. and there are some Mobs that resist gravity often and may need the accuracy.

It was in response to someone that quoted me from another thread saying I don't consider "what's your favorite merit party setup" threads advanced, yet I was posting in one. Power tripping would be if I actually locked it, and any threads complaining about it. I was stating my opinion, not abusing my mod powers.

You can't power trip when you don't exercise your powers.

Besides, I don't think anyone could fairly say I've ever abused my powers or unnecesarily removed a thread or banned someone. IMO, I've been pretty mellow. Opinionated, but mellow.

I'm rather curious about exactly what you meant when you declared your desire to moderate both this and the KA topic. At the time of your post, both threads seemed to be filled with informative discussion. I can't really see the problem in either of them.

the only time I think rdm needs convert 5/5 is solo, or tanking. Other then that U will probably need convert only for situations where you need a large MP pool to cure for short amount of time , for example salvage bosses last 20% where you switch to full fast cast gear. So you wouldn't need to keep converting every 8min20sec.

having said that, I also do not see the importance of m.acc merit because no matter how well equipped and merited your rdm is, you will end up having your slow II resisted followed by a blm that lands slow 1 without ES , which SE are the only ones to blame.
