Random App. Freezes

I'll make it short and simple..

Got my new computer today, Vista Home Premium 64 bit.. ATI Radeon 4870 x 2 cards (2 gigs worth), and lots of other goodies.

So everything is fine and dandy until I open Ventrilo up and it freezes my entire computer for a good 10-15 seconds. It does it again when I go into setup, into chat, etc.

It also does it on random games (even ones that came with comp.) but not on others (like Oblivion, Sims 3, POL).

Is there any reason it's doing this? I shut down my McAffee firewall/scanner/etc. and it still does it. If I need to give out more info. lemme know as FFXI is updating and I have 2 hours to loiter in BG forums. >;D

Correction, on ventrilo.. it opens up fine until I go to connect and THEN it freezes my whole computer up. Does it when I go into anything else in Ventrilo as well. It sounds like my computer is like checking the program or something? Ugh.. fuckin' frustrating. :-/

I'd try to uninstall and reinstall both your video card and sound card drivers and see if that helps any. It's somewhere to start, anyway. What kind of computer is it? Does it have any kind of diagnostics? Try running some memory tests as well.

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 2.66Ghz
8 Gigs RAM
64 Bit Vista Home Premium



I ran the memory diagnostics and nothing was wrong. I reinstalled drivers and nothing helped. I've tried closing various programs down to the bare necessities as well. My programs like Vent and FFXI (not POL, but just when going into FFXI) still freeze my system up for 20 seconds. :-/

As far as I can tell everything is upgraded (drivers, keyboard, mouse, etc.). Could it be anything else?
