Best punk band or greatest punk band?
Best punk band or greatest punk band?
This is a question for Virtue
punk is for losers
I'm all lost in the supermarket
at least you will never go hungry
shiro do me a solid and put some must-know clash songs and do another thread devoted to Cohen, and a 3rd for Dylan
ilu, or I suppose they could all stay here
I'll bang out some lists.
In no particular order:
The Clash:
White Riot
*Death and Glory
Rock the Casbah
*(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais
Tommy Gun
London Calling (I guess I need to put this on there, don't I)
*Rudie Can't Fail
*Guns of Brixton
I Fought the Law (beautiful cover, really)
*Armagideon Time
Should I Stay or Should I Go
Career Opportunities
Lost in the Supermarket
And let's add in a couple Joe Strummer songs out of respect:
Afro-Cuban Bebop
Redemption Song (amazing cover of the Marley standard)
Could add a lot more but I tried to keep it concise. Healthy mix of favourites and just general classics.
Justice Tonight
The Magnificent Dance
Radio Clash
Cohen:
Suzanne
*Sisters of Mercy
*Chelsea Hotel No. 2 (Got to hear this one live. Was a nice treat because his recent tour was mostly a carbon copy set list of the Live in London show, and this wasn't on it)
Hallelujah
*Anthem
*Bird on the Wire
*Dance Me to the End of Love
So Long, Marianne
*The Future
*The Butcher
Tower of Song
*The Partisan (traditional, but good arrangement)
Everybody Knows
First We Take Manhattan
Few people do songs of love and hate as well as him.
Good stuff
I wish Strummer was still around.![]()
Shut up
I wish I could make this short, but I don't even know how to begin to do that. I'll tag a few of my favourites although there's not much on this list that I don't adore.
Dylan:
*Like a Rolling Stone
*Shelter from the Storm
*Desolation Row
*Visions of Johanna
Mr. Tambourine Man
Blowin' in the Wind
*Just Like a Woman
*Hard Rain
*Spanish Boots of Spanish Leather
Maggie's Farm
*The Lonesome Death of Hattie Caro (Heard a fucking awesome version of this live)
It Ain't Me Babe
*Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Subterranean Homesick Blues
Tangled Up in Blue
*Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again
*Jokerman
*If You See Her, Say Hello
I cut this list by ~1/2-2/3s.
I'll take Dead Kennedys any day of the week in a battle of the punk bands.
im not much for punk music but I like both of the bands listed so far in this thread
NOFX? they're alright, and that's all i really know. only song i've listened to by them in a really really long time is blasphemy. i don't particularly listen to punk. on with the indie! lead singer kind of reminds me of blue october but fuck blue october
