    Bourbon question

Okay, so I have a 45 dollar bottle of Woodford Reserve sitting in my room whcih is way bigger than what I wanted to get but they were out of the 20 dollar size. Anyway I don't know what the fuck to mix it with, any ideas? I read that drinking it neat is a popular option. I also normally like seagrams with coke or 7up, but I think the rules are a little different for bourbon.

Bourbon and Coke, you cant go wrong. Generally dark colas are the best, unless you want to get ghetto and mix it with Orange juice or Alizé:Red Passion or something.

Coke is the common wing man for any and everything Bourbon if not taken in shot form.

Mix it with Ginger Ale (Bourbon and Ginger). Trust me, its 10x better than Coke (especially since you have a nice bourbon).

If you're going to mix it with anything, mix it with water if you cant stand the alcohol content. If you can, fill a tumbler with ice and pour the bourbon over the ice. Dont store the bourbon in the freezer tho, it will develope a very nasty syrupy texture to it.

Woodford is a pretty good bourbon, so mixing it with anything is like putting ketchup on caviar.

Yeah I wouldnt mix it, but if you HAVE to, then use in this order: Ginger ale, Sprite or 7up(same shit), Coke, Dr.Pepper.

Get a tumbler, some ice and a nice cigar. Sit outside and enjoy the life for a while.

Ice or just a splash of water. Bourbon is a sipping alcohol, treat it as such.

Mint Juleps are a great drink for summer, especially if you have a good bourbon.

Generally I buy fresh mint at the supermarket and make my own mint syrup using equal parts sugar and water, bruising the mint leaves with the back of a spoon into the mixture (as you heat it over a low heat to bring out the mint and make the sugar dissolve faster).

    Instructions:
    1) Take a big tall glass (historically using pewter/silver but glass works as well) and fill it about 1/2 of the way with crushed ice
    2) Pour 2 tbsp of the mint syrup over the ice
    3) Fill the rest of the glass with crushed ice
    4) Pour in the bourbon til it reaches the top of the ice/glass
    5) Garnish with leftover mint leaves.

The ice dissolves and dilutes the bourbon, and the sugar/mint helps cut the alcohol taste, and the drink is cold and delicious. It's really the perfect summer drink and really old fashioned/southern (it's the official drink of the kentucky derby).

It's kinda a pain to make the mint sugar but if you hunt around you can either find it pre-made, or find already made plain syrup and they sell fresh mint in the produce aisle of nearly all supermarkets.

I really recommend crushed ice over cubes because it gets the drink really cold really fast and dissolves a lot more evenly but yea.

Alright cool, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll probably end up doing it on the rocks and with a splash of water like someone mentioned, I need to get a decent glass though. I'm also bringing it over to a friend's on Friday, we're having a few people come over for a script readthrough for some webisodes we're shooting and we needed the bourbon for a scene in it, I'm sure they'll want to mix stuff with it.

Edit: and that mint julep sounds fucking delicious, I'll definitely give that a whirl, thank you.

Depends on how fast you want to get buzzed, drunk, or shit faced...

1 shot bourbon, 1 beer of your choice as chaser... Repeat every 15-10 minutes until you no longer need the beer chaser. Pass out on couch, repeat next day until bottle is empty.

If you looking to just relax with an adult beverage, over ice, or with water always goes down nice.

I've been making my own syrup for awhile and it isn't too difficult at all. I've boiled 1 cup water and then when boiling stir in 2 cups sugar and mint leaves. Use a muddler (or back of spoon) to bruise the mint and when it is slightly thickened remove from heat. Takes 5 minutes max and will go a long way.

All suggestions above are spot on. If drinking outside I'd go with a mint julep. If in a bar then I'd drink it straight. Enjoy!
