Wow, how did I miss this thread earlier.
I also support the mint julep suggestion, although if you're not used to drinking bourbon you may want to add a bit of water. Bourbon can be an acquired taste, so don't be afraid to water it down a bit to get used to it. You'll be drinking it neat in no time.
Bourbon and ginger is also great, although you should try to find a very good ginger ale. Look for something with real sugar, as opposed to high-fructose corn syrup. In addition to the all the other shitty things that come with HFC, typical ginger ales with HFC can be very sticky and syrupy and not awesome. Check a grocery store like Whole Foods, which has a great store-brand ginger ale made with real sugar.
I also love Maker's, and I'm a fan of the beer chaser. You'd be amazed how well it goes with Budweiser, probably because it's one of the sweetest mass-produced beers you'll find.
Also, if Atre was any more Nick Carraway, Fitzgerald's estate would sue for copyright infringement.
