Wow, how did I miss this thread earlier.

I also support the mint julep suggestion, although if you're not used to drinking bourbon you may want to add a bit of water. Bourbon can be an acquired taste, so don't be afraid to water it down a bit to get used to it. You'll be drinking it neat in no time.

Bourbon and ginger is also great, although you should try to find a very good ginger ale. Look for something with real sugar, as opposed to high-fructose corn syrup. In addition to the all the other shitty things that come with HFC, typical ginger ales with HFC can be very sticky and syrupy and not awesome. Check a grocery store like Whole Foods, which has a great store-brand ginger ale made with real sugar.

I also love Maker's, and I'm a fan of the beer chaser. You'd be amazed how well it goes with Budweiser, probably because it's one of the sweetest mass-produced beers you'll find.

Also, if Atre was any more Nick Carraway, Fitzgerald's estate would sue for copyright infringement.

Wild Turkey 101, Schwepp's (or Whole Foods ginger ale, as above), tiny sliver of lime.

At least that's what my father drank, I can't stand brown alcohol.

Yeah I should also point out that I typically associate bourbon with colder weather. We're a gin and tonic family in the summertime, for the most part.

Bombay Sapphire + Canada Dry Tonic Water + Ice + Lime = win

you should drink it straight or if you're going to add anything just a few small ice cubes. don't water it down you'll ruin the flavor and the experience.

You don't drink bourbon/scotch/cognac to get drunk there are cheaper liquors for that. You drink those cause you're a pimp and you know it with a nice dark cigar, dip the mouth end of the cigar into it also and you'll appreciate the flavor it adds to the smoke.]

*if it's your first time, small sips and keep it in your mouth a few seconds and swallow slowly, it's one of those liquors that can burn your throat if you just chug it or sip to quickly and you're not used to it*

Cherry Coke + Knob Creek has yielded happiness on several occasions; I tried it with ice first then realized I had a vagina.

It may be a little much at first for you, but it mellows both as the ice melts a bit and you have a few. That's the only way I drink it now, so good.
Neat, room temp, in a snifter. No discussion.

(If you wanna do mixed drinks then do it with a cheap brand not one that can stand on its own.)

People always say "if you're mixing it with coke just use a cheap brand, you're ruining it and can't tell the difference". Bullshit.

I swear by Jameson and coke as my #1 liquor drink. And you could line up 20 different whiskey and cokes and I'll tell you which one is the Jameson.

For diet coke (when I'm forced) I prefer Jim Beam though.

I still say that applies 100% to vodka. Like mixing Grey Goose w/ shit instead of just using some Skyy or Smirnoff. Grey goose is for straight shots as far as I'm concerned.

Very well may, the point of Vodka is that it isn't supposed to taste like anything.

Cheap swill nights where the vodka smells like rubbing alcohol and the beer costs $10 for a 24-pack.

    Ah being poor.

vodka is for hooch. Get a cooler, get much vodka gin and rum(clear), buy all kindsa fruit and fruity flavored shit (doesnt matter what kind, youre drinking fucking vodka out of a cooler). Drink til you get laid, get in a fight, pass out. Wake up in the morning and enjoy a fruit salad if youre not in jail.

That's funny, because bourbon landed me in jail a week and a half ago.

Woodford is a delicious bourbon, no need to mix it with anything.

other Bourbons that mix well though
    Maker's with Sprite
    KT with diet Coke
    Knob Creek with Cherry Coak
    KG with Ginger Ale

Since I'm still in college(Kentucky) I mainly stick to KT and KG because they are cheap but if its woodford I take it on the rocks and if its Maker's I add Sprite(Delicious).

Edit: Bourbon makes you an angry drunk so watch out. I'm starting to favor Gin more and more now.

So uh... you say that Woodford is delicious and is great on the rocks, then list a couple bourbons that are better than Woodford and what they're great to mix with?

Also, bourbon makes you an angry drunk? Do you really believe that what type of liquor it is effects your emotions or was that some sort of joke?

The only bourbon I listed that was in Woodfords price was knob creek. Also bourbon just hits you harder than most other alcohol. It also might be do to the fact that I drink bourbon before football games then get angry at refs/other teams fans. Also Maker's is very sweet tasting so I like to mix it with sprite.

Most bourbons are between 35 and 40 percent alcohol, which is in line with most other liquors (like gin....). Woodford, Knob and Maker's are all around the same price, but honestly I and nearly everyone I know would rate it as Maker's > Knob > Woodford lol.
