    -McDonalds.

Forgot to add. If people only watched Fox News for laughs, then the Daily Show would have MUCH MUCH higher ratings. I mean yes, I'm sure the Daily Show has great ratings, but there would be a spin off of Comedy Central dedicated for "funny news" if this were true.

I just saw this like 10 minutes ago while looking at other stuff:

    Wal-Mart rank among retailers in U.S.: 1
Wal-Mart rank among toy retailers: 1
Wal-Mart rank among grocery retailers: 2

Wal-Mart rank among largest private employers: 1

Well, there's none in the top 4 of cable news outlets. Maybe somewhere near the bottom of the pile? Which has been my point all along...If that's is what consumers digest, then that's what you go with. Consumers want quick talking points and strong opinions. It's really no different than sports media.

As far as being useless with giving us the truth, most of the problems are with the commentators, who, you know, commentate. They don't report the news. Nancy grace isn't a fucking reporter any more than I am. Does fox news report stories incorrect, I'm sure I do, but I can assure you that it isn't what the outrage is about with them. The outrage is with the strong opinions that the commentators have, which may be poorly backed/sourced.

Oh, don't get me wrong, they're really just the worst of the worst. But the problem is widespread. The MSM hardly reports or investigates, they just pass along information they get, at times from the government without even the slightest bit of critical reporting. They've unwittingly become easy to use propaganda tools. What we mostly get now on TV is just talking heads spouting baseless opinions and repeating things they've heard from someone else, often without even saying who that is or why we should believe what they say.

It gets even worse when you notice that the MSM even censors itself when it thinks that the news it reports might well ill received. For example, at times because of the allegation of "liberal media" the media censors news that might make it seem too liberal as to know alienate viewers, when what it should be doing is reporting facts. The news has become nothing but a circus.

As for the news that is actually news not being popular, that is true in some places, most strongly in the US, however you have news orgs like the BBC and Al Jazeera which are lightyears ahead of American reporting, especially when it comes to what the US government does outside the US itself.

Nancy Grace deserves her position, everytime I turn onto her show it somehow feels like she makes a really big deal out of small local stuff - and she talks really loud/strong I observe for some reason.

Keith also should be closer to 1, his voice is just irritating after a while.

Is there such a company or news organization that cares more about integrity than money?
    NO.

Oops....except ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Huffington Post, and AirAmerica and it's 6 listeners, all of which are more than willing to sacrifice ratings in the masses and lose almost all of their audience to Fox News, conservative radio, and conservative "hate websites" in order to push an agenda that does not boil down to "make money" (in their eyes: integrity). Not only are they biased, they actually make pretty bad business decisions. Hasn't Keith Olbermann's latest ratings slip indicated that putting an eye-patched picture of Ann Coulter on his segment every day does NOT lead to getting your contract renewed.

Anyone who has actually seen Bill O'reilly outside of edited YouTube videos with captions telling you what to think knows that Nancy Grace is an even bigger nut job than that guy. And who honestly doesn't love her for it?

I think a lot of the list needs to be moved around on the list. For instance, Sean Hannity is a really nice guy. Alan Colmes in a really nice guy. Glenn Beck is a complete asshole; he should totally be moved up to Big O's place.

however you have news orgs like the BBC and Al Jazeera which are lightyears ahead of American reporting
You are absolutely right. The government-run news agency that is known mainly for its decent radio broadcasts and a few good shows beats out all of America. Oh, but wait, don't forget the station that obtains ransom videos and airs recorded messages from Osama. Why are we not praising CNN International? That's silliness to a level I can't even describe. I'd trust fashion TV before that European/Eastern/Terrorist-Run crapola.

On a serious note, does anyone have any legitimate reason to attack Rush Limbaugh? The reason I ask is that although Limbaugh wins the ratings race, he is tailed closely by people like Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, and Michael Savage that, when combined, totally destroy Limbaugh's ratings. Trust me, among that list, Limbaugh is not the one to complain about. That tells me nobody is really listening. Have you even heard of more than two of those people? You're just going with Olbermann's flow and internal desire to be his own successful radio host. Maybe he can beat out Alan Colmes and win 13 listeners!

As my Rick Pitino said, the US is a microwave society. We're constantly moving, bustling, and love our lives to accommodate that. MSM has started to adapt their production to those standards. Now we have talking points, every news/media/sports outlet has bottom lines and tickers. While that doesn't change anything about the strong opinions of commentators that few share, it is the reason Fox jumped out ahead of the other news orgs even though others had a much larger staple in american news media and had been in the general media industry much longer.

That was a serious question. I only wonder why proportionate weight is not given to other talk radio people. I mean, Rush is NOT the only person that says things that enrage liberals. And he is NOT the only person that dominates talk radio. About 10 other conservatives do too.

I have a good life because of that, and there are lots of ppl that have good lives working for McDonald's, Wal-Mart and every other "big evil company" that ya'll may hate.

I make an honest living, I don't see an integrity issue with that. If someone where to attempt to "punish" AutoZone, then it would hurt me, and everyone else that works for them. What exactly is McDonald's hiding anyway?
omg!! what kind of rationale is this?! are you honestly comparing news industry to your industry?! the integrity of news is the most crucial part in that industry, the business model used is WRONG because news media should NOT be treated as any other business with the main goal is to increase their shareholders wealth...

News affect political agenda and history showed us to what limit it does effect it ( i.e watergate), so they do have a morale responsibility for the public to be unbiased and objective. Nowadays , every news network try to get stories out of no where, with no research and with lack of journalism characteristics JUST so they get better rating to get more viewers.

Having said that, If rating would be segmented by quality of materials instead of number of viewers I am sure Foxnews would be last. But as of now, number of viewers is the determent factor from a business prospective and this is a dillima that sadly I don't even know how it can be solve.

That may be a good thing, but the complete blackout you get in the US MSM in regards to what the government does is horrifying.

It completely failed to call bullshit in Iraq, failed to point out Goldman's weasel scheme, failed to understand that torture is fucking illegal, and is currently failing to report on just how connected certain persons are to the health insurence industry.

I agree, but it keeps going back to money. I'll give a sports example, since, that's the easiest way to explain this for me.

When A GM is is going to break a story, such as a huge trade between two teams, he has probably 5 journalists he can use to report the story. It then becomes a popularity contest between the journalists, so they'll do whatever it takes to suck ass and get the story. Same thing goes on in the MSM. If they do anything other than suckup and play it relatively safe, they'll risk losing interviews, breaking stories, and sources. If that happens, then ratings will soon disappear as have their substance. Oddly enough, I think the ever-increasingly popular "internet blogs" are moving toward how the media should be reported. With no real affiliation (unless a major company picks up the blog), they lose nothing in calling the bullshit they see. Only problem being, they are typically biased and they won't be breaking any stories. At least that's the way sports blogs are, I don't know a single political blog, but I'm sure they'd follow a similar suite, as sports/news media aren't really that different, as stated in the above example, both (ab)use politics.

edit: Bolded is the longest run-on ever.
