Just as a note, if you go into any reputable piercing parlor and say "gauging" there's a good change they're going to just treat you like a fkn idiot. AWG is a unit of measurement for the diameter (thickness) of the jewelry (and wire, cables, etc). It's not a verb when it's used in this manner. If you're moving past 00g, it's not even measured in gauge anymore.

yeah, unless you think you might want to have normal ears again someday. having big holes cut in your lobes is fucking instafail and 100% of the people i knew who did it ended up with stupid infections and other complications because they were abruptly thrust into the cleaning and maintenance plugs require without any introduction. not to mention that if he's under 18, there's no way they'll do that shit for him.

aside from that, tons of places other than piercing-centric establishments (which are almost always tattoo parlors as well) sell perfectly fine jewelry. there's no reason to go out of your way to visit one of those places at all, and they will almost certainly overcharge you.

if you can't ask your parents to use their credit card to order plugs online because you're keeping it a secret then you're making a bad decision. if you can't be honest and up front about your activities, you probably shouldn't be doing them anyway. i don't believe in encouraging kids who live at home to betray their parents' trust even if their parents are overbearing and overprotective; doing so never ever ever ever ever ever ever improves the relationship.

Also, they fail for not getting scalpeled/punched by a professional who explained the aftercare process to them in a manner that communicated the consequences of the procedure they were about to undertake. Not to mention that in a lot of states a piercer can't even perform a procedure like that because it falls under the category of surgery. Fail again for not checking up on who was about to carve into you.

If you think you're getting the same quality jewelry from some place like Hot Topic that you would from a reputable piercing establishment, well... then yeah, again, you deserve whatever happens to you.

it's going to be small. people with huge gauges are cool but that's just too hardxcore. small gauge goes with my hair and girls like it so fuck you hatin ass faggot.

stop giving dumb advice to children who want to get cool indie earrings to go with their hair and impress chicks, for real. of course he's going to want normal-sized holes in his ears when he actually has to go out into the real world and look for women who aren't impressed by your ear jewelry and possibly do interviews with people who are equally unimpressed.

p.s. explaining the aftercare process != developing good hygiene habits. getting into a routine of taking care of your piercings before shit can go horribly awry is definitely the way to go and always what i would recommend to someone who is getting or modifying their first piercing, especially since the dude in question isn't even an adult yet.

Scalelping isn't restricted to large gauges. The punching was a general statement, as stated, there's no way any professional would do that anyway.

"Dumb advice", right. I take it you've never had to carve jewelry out of someone because they wanted to be indie and cool and did it all themselves with saftey pins, pen caps, and low quality jewelry, only to end up with an infection so bad that the healing flesh adhered to said shitty jewelry and enveloped it. Or have to send kids to hospitals to get shit surgically removed because the infections were so bad. Not for nothing, but i have.

The only advice that should be taken away is "Don't try shit you're not qualified for and don't buy low quality jewelry."
