I think it's fucked to get a relic and quit less than a month later. I've said it to a lot of people who've done the same thing, even people who I'm actually very close to. I really don't think that Stan leaving the game is on the same level here. He kept the linkshell running long after he got his relics. Even though he didn't want to play, he felt like he owed the linkshell for what he/we achieved. And no one is faulting him for quitting.
I'm with the other guy though, if you knew your mortgage was in trouble, why not quit sooner? Save the $12.95/month right off the bat, sell your account sooner? This really just looks like a case of using the linkshell to bolster the value of your account, and getting rid of it. That's what it boils down to. He could have sold it at the first sign of financial trouble, but instead held on long enough to get that relic and make it worth more. That's selfish and a dick move. You're not going to change my mind there. If you have financial troubles quit the game and save the money you're spending on it.
Priorities were fucked here. For an extra couple hundred bucks, I'm betting.
So no, not the same thing.
