    no seriously, they fuckin stink:
Musty Smell In Front Load Washer

you can't use liquid laundry products in them and you have to do a shit-ton of maintenance to keep them from stinking like shit. i know a bunch of military wives who blew half a reenlistment bonus on a super fucking expensive washer/dryer set that they now hate for that exact reason.

idk, I've had mine for quite a while now and I just keep the doors open on the washer for a few hours after use!

think it depends on the brand for the smelly rubber parts, but i've also heard horror stories of water collecting underneath the drum, mildew/mold growing on parts you can't see or reach via normal means and contaminating your clothes with stains/smells/ebola, etc. fuck a frontloader, quality is a roll of the dice.

They do make Toploaders that have the close to the capacity of Frontloaders. Whirlpools are called Cabrio's. Also with Frontloaders you have to clean them every 3 months (recommended) with special cleaning products you can buy at local appliance stores or should be anyway. Frontloaders also have anywhere from 3-4 computer chips in them. When 1 goes out you have to change the whole wiring harness for that 1 chip. Also at the appliance store I work for we get tons of frontloaders in to be worked on. More than toploaders.

Yeah, I clean mine out each month... but I did that with my toploader as well.

Always had frontloader, never once has it smelled. You're either buying shitty products or doing something very wrong somehow.

i avoided buying one from the shit that i've heard, but apparently people aren't doing it wrong; product is just shit. check out the link. nothing you can do about the contents of your laundry-washing products encouraging mold/mildew growth in the rubber of your machine

I didn't click the link because it's bullshit. Had frontloaders in my house for 18 years and not one of them has smelled. Shitty products, frontloaders are fine.

speaking of household appliance odor, ever since I moved into this apartment my dishwasher has had this mildewy food smell whenever I open it. It seems to go away for a little while after I wash (although faintly detectable) and I'm not sure what's causing it (read: too lazy to call building maintenance).

My dad seems to think there's food stuck in some trap somewhere, which sounds too gross for me to fix, but I'm going to risk turning my bathroom into a foam party by emptying a whole box of baking soda in there the next time I run it.

    Thoughts?

Buy or borrow the appropriate copy of Consumer Reports. Chances are you know someone who has every issue dating back to 1992, you just don't realize it yet. Tada, dice roll gone.

That said I like Top Loader because getting stuff to stay in the Front Loader while you load it is a laundy minigame that gets old fast. Not challenging, just annoying after 100 repititions.

No it's real and I have one. Well actually it's just a garbage pail and I use paper plates, plastic cups, and plastic utensils for as much as I possibly can. Real dishes and utensils are available, but avoided.
