Barfire gear is the key to this fight, your people in range with barfire setups / carol / barfira will take very low numbers from all fire attacks, so low that they occasionally did 0.

you can get fire resist set without gimping your dmg

I friend of mine, I think jokingly, brought up that perhaps "forming a pact with the pixie" in the weapons quest might have something to do with Sylph, and perhaps branch into an avatar pact quest. It's an interesting idea, far fetched or not. Or perhaps it will be Sylph and SE will just not allow access to the summon (EX: Alexander, Odin, Ixion/Unicorn, Dark Ixion, Bahamut, Tiamat, Ultima, Kirin, Cerberus, Omega, Behemoth, Gilgamesh, Phoenix was kind of in CoP..., Cait Sith, probably soon to be Atomos... Then there's dozens of 'normal mobs' that they didn't make into avatars, but that's not surprising.) . That's probably more likely. lol Poor SMNs.

Maybe SMN will get Atomos or Cait Sith (this as an avatar would be kind of useless though...) eventually from WotG though... One day... Maybe. Nope, just a fight, no pact. /facepalm

Actually, I dont believe that is too far fetched. Would be a light summon, have drain (possibly curing the party as it used to), Silence, Cure II and Cure IV (spells SMN dont currently have) and a few other pacts. Would certainly be an interesting summon, Sylph along with Ixion, perfect.

Anyways, sorry to begin a de-rail, back on topic.

Edit: I am aware that Garuda is essentually Sylph due to Whispering Wind and her general appearance. Just felt a main stay curing avater would do smn's good.

I think what was being mentioned was "Drainlike" just refered to as Drain, ie. FFIV Asura.
