For those that haven't been keeping up with with the versions of Windows 7, the release to manufacturing version has been leaked on the internet. Should be the same version that hits the stores, unless Microsoft does some last minute updates to it.

Hmmm, interesting. So I wonder how would the activation work? Not sure if the Beta codes can be used still?

Friend said that this is still a RC base, with a new upgrade on it, thus believed to still not be RTM. At least that's the way it was explained to me. It would be like getting a RC and preforming a new update to it. The RTM supposedly, will not be compatible with RC, and will require a full reinstall, thus why it is believed it is not a true RTM.

We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we’ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it’s ready. As previously stated, we expect Windows 7 to RTM in the 2nd half of July.

Windows 7 will be available in many languages from around the world. For us to consider RTM “done”, it requires that all languages be completely finished. So there is a lot of work that needs to take place for us to finalize all languages of Windows 7. We also need to get to a point of “global readiness” with our partners. Our partners being ready for Windows 7 is extremely important to RTM. As Steven Sinofsky mentions in this blog post in May, RTM isn’t a single point in time. It’s the beginning of the next “process” for Windows 7. At RTM our partners begin their final preparations for Windows 7, including testing and building images for new PCs. RTM is essentially the final “stage” of engineering for Windows 7 before it hits the market at General Availability (GA). As Steven notes, engineering continues on Windows 7 from RTM until GA on October 22nd.

But, if you're one of those English-speaking people that's been using Windows 7 beta and Windows 7 RC without a problem, chances are you can probably use Windows 7 final now and be just fine. So for you, it's pretty much as done as it's gonna get.

Guess that makes sense. So it's pretty darn close to RTM, minus the whole language support thing.

Has anyone here downloaded the leaked RTM build? I'm holding off until there's a proper crack, currently there is only a workaround, which doesn't remove the March 2010 expiration. Also read that a nag screen pops up every time you go online, asking you to activate it.

There is a real RTM out, and around with no expiration date I believe.... At least that is what I've been hearing from friends. I think they have a legit key though from their business.

I'm still on the first leaked one 7600.16384, using a patch and an RC key, it's labeled as activated/genuine. I dont dare using windows update though lol. Havent seen the final RTM though

Microsoft emailed me with the RC download link for windows 7. I actually just installed the final version just now having stuck with vista. As much as I loved vista it was a whore to install on my pc (had to pull out a stick of ram and a video card and even then it was a crapshoot).

All i have to say is windows 7 installed damn fast. Liking it so far, but then again I liked vista too.

There's also a new orbit30 activator, release #4 that looks pretty good. I have no idea how Hazar's activator works, but it seems like hit or miss. They both use the SLIC 2 workaround, but orbit30 has more configurable options. Basically what it does, is it flashes or emulates your BIOS and tricks windows into thinking it's an OEM motherboard, ready to take on an OEM/RTM windows 7 install using the master key.

(From quickly looking, I think...) Hazar's activator works by modifying the boot sector to point from NTLDR to a GRUB loader that emulates a HP BIOS with SLIC 2.1 which you place in the system reserved partition. Then the matching OEM certificate and product key that match the SLIC are registered. Worked for me in a virtual environment using Ultimate Retail 7600.16385 on the first go. (did not work for Ultimate E) This is good if you are weary about using a modded BIOS as it is more of a software workaround.

If you have a motherboard with SLIC 2.1 already in the BIOS, then you don't need to mod your BIOS or use this activator. You just need the certificate (dell.xrm-ms, for example) that matches your motherboard and then run 2 slmgr commands to register the certificate and the product key.
