Copying FFXI from XP to 7 RC

So, I'm thinking of partitioning my HDD and putting Windows 7 on that and primarily use that until Windows 7 comes out this fall due to me getting explorer.exe errors 1-2 times a day. My main concern of doing so of course is re-installing FFXI. Would the method from Windower.net work with doing so or will I have to just re-install everything?

If I do have to re-install everything, would I be able to use this method to pull FFXI from the Windows 7 RC partition over to the final release of Windows 7 on another partition once its released?

Yep, that should work. Unless of course you install a 64bit version where you would just need to change where the registry keys go. Don't remember it off of the top of my head though.

Hmmm I didn't know 64-bit stores its registry differently... I had planned on going from XP-32 > Windows 7 RC-32 > Windows 7 HP-64.

yeah, the POL entry would be located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ etc going from XP to Vista or Win7 is a bit tricky and problematic if you're good at troubleshooting/likes to tinker with stuff, it's doable. You'll have to install the vista POL for it to work. If you follow those instructions, tweaking the registry as needed, and then installing vista pol ontop of what you copied, that might work.

I can't remember the exact procedure I used, but I was able to go from xp to vista 64 to win7. It came with glitches though, I could no longer log in as a Guest. If I had 4 registered IDs, I'd have to delete one to use a different one not on that list.
