    I remember someone posting a link on BG to a full translation of this site, but i can't find the thread anymore. It's a very nice read, different enough from what's posted on jpbutton.

    Found this on Alla a couple years ago. Supposed to be the updates from the Point of View of a JP player.

    - The lvl 60 cap has been anounced. Although it is not as bad as the first one, people still wonders why to put such wierd quest name.
    - Before this patch, there were no main tank. People spread the hate between the melees, curing all the melees at once to lessen the hate towards the mage as well as melees getting hit got full weapon tp gain. But since this patch, the TP gain received from mob hit became fixed 2 and the cure hate situation has been discussed towards the players, so the new stratergy of making 1 main tank has been made the primal stratergy. However the mob TP gain has been increased, and when the mob's hp has cut 1/4 they spam their ws has been implemented aswell (put this in bold. This is what the TP gain issue on rdm thing has been happening from time to time. Yes this WAS NOT implemented before this patch)
    - Since the mages (in japanese we say back line for mages, front line for melees) were so easily killed from the hate that cure has been producing (a cureII had more hate than provoke, cureIII was like doing Divine+CurgaII, 2hour for whm = WarpIII), new stratergies were discussed. Such new stratergies were the mages casting low level cures and the paladin cures himself to retain hate. This stratergies before anything were never considered good or bad. Since it was such a sudden change, people critisised alot. Previously the pld who were considered a godly job from their melee damage has now officially become main tank position, hence those who refuse to cure themselves to regain hate and only focus on melee has become a "Naitou" (Gimp pld).
    - Protea, bar line of spell, and circle line of abilities has been reduced to almost no hate.
    - Skill chain effect now has an resist effect aswell, also a change has been made from the Skill chain table. (I always having trouble on english skill chart names... sorry I will put in jp for the part I have no clue in english).
    ?? has now been added to the level 2 skill chain table, and Distortion has finally become an easy and powerfull Skill chain. Prior to this change, to make ?? was ??>?? and Distortion was ??>??.
    - WS which had no elemental element, had a horrendous accuracy. Its accuracy has been risen by a huge factor, and the ever famous Fusion skill chain era has ended, and what we call the Distortion era has started. Other than 1handed katana, 1handed sword and hand to hand weapon, 2handed weapons started to show its face from this change. The ever godly elemental ws appart from red lotus has faded from Vanadiel history.
    - Prior to this patch. Every WS using a sneak attack had its critical effect on every single hit. (Hence monks were doing 1700 damage per raging fists) This has been nerfed. And the introduction of Trick attack which added to the thief, The Skill chain ender has been passed from monks to thieves. But they seem to have forgot to nerf the Agi bonus on the Trick attack still existing when used as sub.
    - Skill chain effects now displays in the log, and the ever so bug of displaying the WS named twice when performed a ws has been finally fixed.
    - Holy has been severely nerfed, and at the same time the elemental magic has been improved greatly. Conjunction with the Cure Hate, the era of the WHm being all mighty in both curing and offensive spell has ended.
    - Divine seal and Elemental seal has been implemented.
    - Sneak and INvisible has been added to the Rdm, however they were still a job which had no role in the party. The en spells was continuously getting fixed, nerfed.
    - Weapon bash were added, but "Soul eater" has been nerfed (how is not explained.
    - At the same time the exp chart had its modification as a stealth patch.
    - RaiseII and Ancient magic, as well as Bard's BalladII has been introduced. Bards now became god jobs of Vanadiel. (it still is nowdays in a sence). ReraiseII also was introduced but had a bug of being able to cast on others.
    - Viruna's learning level has been reduced, however around this stage people already stopped fighting undead dogs.
    - The base jobs's Artifact has been implemented. And those people who only had the choice of Iron Msks gear and TM coats had now a new gear.
    - As a result of AF, the crafters progression has stopped.
    - The Treasure coffer has been implemented, its aim were to aquire large gil and items but Square somehow had a brightest idea of putting Artifacts as one of the items. Some jobs has suffered severely of its decisions and till recently this continued. (/point Oztroja)
    - The mobs lower than the player has been modified to become a little easier, but then again it has been touched continuously to balance it.
    - Thief tools has been officially implemented to be able to open chests and coffers. There has been discussion that who will get the loot when the thief gets the coffer. But ended up with thief going solo looting for their own benefit, and such thing as thief being helpers of coffer opener to share the loot has never became a reality.
    - Chocobo NPC has been added to some teleport points.
    - The alternative entrance quest from your mog house (access to all zones from mog house) has been implemented.
    - <call> function has been added.
    - Forgot the name of the quest... the one to assist your country get the region. This was implemented, but was used as another way of dying. (?? part... sorry I also don't understand)
    - Elsimo and Kuzoso areas are now accessible from search. Also the boss areas (behemoth domain and such) also became searchable. However, the BC areas became out of search area.
    - New way of desynth recepie has been introduced. (asks about 4 recepies...)
    - Crafters could no longer advance into multiple high levels. So it has been restricted like nowadays.
    - Guild recepies that you could hear from guild members has been widened.
    - Craft item drops has been increased and widened to alot of monsters. 100% item drop monsters also started to appear.
    - during these times, such items like Scorpion shell, crab shell and poison made from scorpion tail were highly profitable and many people started to farm crafting items for cash.

    From over population, Kujata, Bismark, Ixion, Typhon, Kirin servers were made and server transferble. However not many people has moved to all these servers so they all merged up to Bismark and Kujata.

    - Auto party has been introduced. Fun for a while, but soon faded.
    - Artifact of EX jobs has been implemented, but the Pld AF quest had a bug that the screen froze when ever they accepted the quest.
    - Due to enormous amount of deaths during the low levels from Cure hate, ajustments were implemented.
    - Also added new hate reduction system when you got hit, and by time hate slowly decaying.
    - Ballad2 being slightly nerfed, and high tier blm spells has been improved (how is not shown).
    - In jeuno bazaar tax system has been implemented to reduce the bazaars in jeuno.
    - Sandoria missions were renewed.
    - AH became very unstable, lowered the amount of items you could put in the AH and also added a 30second delay per viewing. (lots and lots and looooots of disconnection in jeuno that was not funny)
    - Serklet and Cassie has been added in this patch, new tradeskill has also been introduced using items dropped from these HNMs.

    - Anouncement of Rise of ZIlart expantion. Seems they have been developed by a different team from FFXI.

    - Exploit of tradeskill. Users found out that the skill increase roll happens as soon as they sit down. They used the exploit of area change, and dezone (how I have no clue) and with this way, only the crystal will perish with items intact and gaining trade skill ups. It has been spread through out the game, and several days later it has been fixed, aswell as rollup happened. Those people who tryed to use this exploit post patch has been banned.

    (now this part has alot of sarcasm against square. I try my best to explain).
    - Zilart expantion release date has been confirmed.
    - Patch would be once every few months.
    - Not only they have stopped doing events once per month, but also new patches becomming less often, FFXI's progress and improvement has slowed dramatically in speed.
    - The numerous modifications and repatches of mistakes they have done 6months after the realease, they have commented "They have worked more than anticipated". Apparently for square, the non existant update post 2004 patch seems their normal pace of update.

    Enormous lag problems happening and seems that PoL and something clashed and made the servers unstable. People experienced serious glitches during their gameplay.

    - Search comment system has been implemented.
    - The skill up of weapons, magics has been decreased dramatically. There for, users had a difficult time on skilling up their weapons and cap it. But this has become the begining of "Skill up tours". GMs stated that they have not touched the skill chart but well meh...
    - <st> and some other usefull macros has been added.
    - Sight agro has become more severe in dungeons.
    - BCNM has been implemented (not kindred the beastmen one)
    - Party leaders now are displayed in Yellow in search.
    - Rdm and Bsts combat skill cap has been risen. Refresh and Regen has been introduced towards the rdm. But Refresh being BCNM only drop and prior to the drop increase in the spell, this spell made the paladins be able to sustain their hate better and made an incredible improvement so it was not an easy task to aquire the spell itself. (Drop rate was said to be once per lets say 8 BC runs and refresh costed about 1million)
    - Mission BCs now have level restriction. So solo defeating these missions becomes more of a challenge if not impossible. This very thing is now implemented once more in Promathia.
    -Those NMs and HNMs that pops with time, were always resetted on server ups. It was unfair for those who couldn't log in during those times when maintenance were over and the "Unfairness" petition was made but the developers haven't listened much, and they did a slight delay ajustment. Of course, for the "Haijins" in english I would say "No life people" can log in anytime of the day (/poke some JP HNMLS members). Which made harder for casual people to camp these NMs.
    - Serklets Earth Powder no longer hits the Party members who are in the first floor (this was horrendous. Before Shiia, my character named Xenno an elvaan mage were exping in there, and all of a sudden, BAM all party member dead. Why? Seklet's aoe affected even on the first floor...).
    - Sneak and Deodorise now wears off when opening chests and coffers.
    - Mimic has been implemented to counter thieves farming coffers and chests.
    - As an anti Fishbot, fishing now cancels when pressed the O button. However, they forgot to implement this on rightclick and enter...

    - The shells and claws droprate from Shakrami Maze's scorpions has been lowered. They have told that they won't touch it.

    - Patch Before Zilart expantion went live.
    - Level limit raised to 65, new spells and weapon skills were introduced.
    - Pld gains Rampart.
    - Most of the improvement has been anounced in their boards. However most of the BAD side aka NERF has never been anounced and were stealthly patched.
    - Post skill 200, the difference between Skill A and below Skill B difference becomes more severe. Job specific WS has become clear and each job has been given their proficient part and whats not. (warriors starts to use more axes, leaves swords behind and such)
    - Not only the WS but also have issues with accuracy equation. Prior to skill level 200, the equation of accuracy was 1skill = 1accuracy. Post skill 200 the accuracy equation becomes 1skill =0.2 accuracy. There for the difference of the accuracy between A and B were not severe between players. However they forgot to modify the mob's evation, which made the players very hard to hit the mob. Having B class skill in a weapon made some problems since they could not get their WS of their profesion with 65 being the level cap.
    - Some spell skill has become easier to improve. Prior to this patch there were no way to increase the skill of heal other than casting towards undead mobs. Now the skill rises casting to anyone. But of course, it was a meaningless skill reguardless. (brd subbing whm and whm cureII difference are practically null)
    - Warrior's Aggressor got nerfed. Before it was 25% accuracy up and 25% evation down, now became a fixed number. However, the defendfer became from 3min to 5min (I know this since I have read the info elsewhere).
    - Rng received Endlesshot and new Conquest point arrows. However having the TP reset swapping Arrows made this skill and arrow useless.
    - Rdm receiving without notice Convert, Fast cast applied always, and clearmind has made them one of the most seeked jobs, or in JP term Godly job.
    - Brds had their soul voice, ballad, march, and madrigal nerfed, has become from the "Sole god job" into a God job. (er what the difference anyway...)
    - Bsts can now summon pets.
    - Monk's Martial art traight has been improved, Chiblast and Kick has been added.
    - Drk gains new line of attacker job spells. Absorb.
    - Dagger type weapons now has piercing element,
    - Erase, Dispell and Phalanx were added.
    - Cure hate has finally tuned down and they won't get much hate unless you try it.
    - Enfeeble and Enhancement tuning up, introduction of new jobs and new hunting areas has made people think that the game were advancing in a bright side.
    - NOT... the exp gained in 61+ has been tuned to a hell zone. IT mobs started 12 levels ahead from your current level, to gain 200 exp needed to kill mobs that were 18levels ahead of you ( frankly, the developers were complete morons when they implemented this and was like anouncing IT = death).
    - Level 2 Skill chains has been nerfed badly, the resist of skill chain effects become obsolete. Battle with IT became pointless unless you have a supreme party configuration.
    - Appart from some specific players, people now have started to gain exp against Tough~Very tough mobs. However, exp gained from Even con and tough has also been lowered. Their tactics shifted from skill chain to spamming multi hit WS.
    - Prior to this patch, orcs and bones were the primary source of exp mob which were now replaced to crabs and beetles. Black cloud from bones becomes absurdly strong like nowdays, Evil Weapon learns (forgot name in english) Stun AoE attack, Orcs now have 1.5 times more hp than any other mobs. This made the players to move away from their old hunting grounds, and forced to move to new areas.
    - New monster type has been added to the old areas who were ninja, summoner and bsts who already were starting to cast ninjutus, use avatar as their pets and so on.
    - Goblin droped their items like rain.
    - Level3 skill chain was introduced, but for not be able to perform till 65, and since dancing edge were so ridiculously strong, people haven't used much.
    - Fear of using Rampage and Pentathrust in conjuction with Meditate, they have removed Skill chain elemental from them. (I don't know what this means...)
    - Food effect which before was 1hour duration, those which stacks has been reduced to 30min.
    - The Gil farming method of getting Silver and mithril coins has been nerfed since their drop rate has been hit severely.
    - Implemented casting time into items and this has solved the bug of scrolls dissapearing, however some items had such a horrible casttime which became completely useless in battle.
    - New items with Latent effect has been introduced. However users could not determin these effect since eighther they were not displayed or could not determin how to activate it.
    - Sneak now you have to cut the effect in order to recast it. But this made them not to wear off when opening chests.
    - COffer and Treasure chest now has a fixed 30min repop timer.
    - Competition on Carbuncle's Ruby and Kazam keys spread through Vanadiel and people starts to get frustrated of severe competition.
    - New HNMs has been added through out the new areas, however their loot has been so poorly implemented and there were so many that didn't give gil nor title, that many of them were left untouched.
    - some serious problems when imputting JP characters.
    - Bug that you could buy maps of new areas countless times.
    - NPC merchants now buys items from users even cheaper, and people starts to have more difficulty in cash grinding. Specially the mages.
    - The region stores which were located in Jeuno has dissapeared.

    They implement the new Genkai quests that were asked to go to the heart of beastmen territory. However they forgot to state that the King and its Guardians see through sneak invis, and they anounce it now... (after god knows how many people's death and panic happening left and right of thinking sneak invis were broken)

    Without server down, Black mandras in Boyada and and Worms in Kuftal dissapears. In the Server message, it states "It has not been tuned yet so please do not hunt these mobs".

    - But noooo, "Haijins" kept killing the black mandras since they were reported to be much much weaker than what they were supposed to be. People started to critisize these group of users.
    - Katanas were so limited in stock and people simply bought from NPC and sold in AH for a much higher price, they have increased the stocks the NPC has for these weapons.
    - Some changes were made on specific mobs. Like Bones having sight agro, some mobs conned "Impossible to Gauge", COckatrice in terrigan having several thousand hps (I have to admit, I bursted my coffee to my screen when I have seen this rofl...)


    Zilard mission.

    No good nor bad, typical expantion. Using same model mobs on most areas. Lack of progression and improvement were part of the dislikes in the FFXI comunity. But what worse were those countless nerfs Square made post the launch of Zilart expantion, the inflation in economy (limited stock items), untuned areas. And many have quitted when they saw the horrendous exp table that you needed to get in order to advance, the level difference, the accuracy problems...
    Promathia seemed not much of an improvement to the game. However, from the storyline that gives the expantion, it could be said that the expantion itself was descent. Several improvement on spells, tradeskills, NM and weapon skills and so on can clearly see that it is trying to focus on what FFXI is built. (and further more explains what NA release has in its disks and so on)
    New areas added 35+ 4 expanded existing zones.

    -"Due to the recent upgrades on defence improvement, some mobs can become stronger than before", with this anouncement the mobs in the new area has got an improvement patch. According to the interview, it stated "Those mobs who were clearly weak has been enhanced".
    - Reality check, mobs such as: Pugils, bees, Scorpions, and 3 winged bats as well as those mobs who became much stronger: Bones and Evil weapons. Since these were also enhanced, users start to question what the F*ck the developer's Balance tuning is like?

    - Patch day, some minor bugs and tunings were made.
    - Worms started to move...
    - You can now change your Dragon's name.
    - Pet's name and Hp is now displayed in the screen.
    - Airship prices, and mog charging when using a nomad mog in the Zilart areas has been tuned.
    - Sneak is once more able to recast on top of the old one, however sneak and deaodorize once more will dissapear when opening chests.

    - In the message board of developers corner, it has been a hot topic of adding a Latent MP's presence. Due to the disgusting patch that has been applied post Zilart, the amount of healers has been decreased, and lack of healing power has become a severe problem and was difficult to make parties. The idea itself was not bad. The concept was if a melee job has put a support job, it would increase their MP so that if they subbed a mage class, they would have some significant mp so that they could assist in heals. Users have flamed against this and has been wiped from the developers corner.
    - Later on, they have tryed to improve the mages and added Hexa strike towards whm and their whm only armor. (lvl40 one) But these days the days of the Whm glory and lacking in their amount were over. Now it was shifted more on lack of Rdm and Brds.

    - Level 70cap has been anounced. New spells but no new WS added. The developers stated that they have used all the resources in the existing WS graphical effects.
    - Zilard mission expands, and a new area Tulia has been opened.
    - They anounced that lvl 61+exp chart will not be changed. However, without notice there were some modifications made towards the exp chart.
    But at the same time there were some nerfing going on in the 30s exp chart, as a result getting 200+ exp was a hard task unless in a chain, but the developers have admitted their mistake and all in all fighting IT became officially recognized amoung the players.
    - As next exp becomming severe and mobs continuously having high level evation, to get a good exp rate they needed an acuracy buffer which were the bard, and a MP refresher which were the Rdm, and if one of them were missing it was hard to earn any exp at all. However, users, discovers the true power of "Shield Break" against mobs who has Ice element weakness. This made the Warrior tanks who always worked with Thieves using "Yokodama" (45 degrees SATA) start using them. Warriors from this day started to become valuable.
    - Crafting of arrows and bolts, aswell as bullets has been revised and rangers became more easier to play.
    - Exp now carries over when you got more exp than the needed exp to level up as well as the death exp penalty's cap has become a fixed 2400. On encounters where your level are restricted, the death penalty will take effect on your restricted level and not the main level.
    - The ninjutu's NI line of spells will now cast much faster. (Prior to this, utusemi one and utusemi ni both had same casting times if not slower) Allong with the summoner, ninjas were another mysterious job. But from this day on, users agreed that ninjas now can be a Tank using the FFXI game mechanics. (However, this has been discussed well before but they had trouble achiving since both utusemi were so slow to cast)
    - Regen line of spell has become Whm only, and Cure line of spells have been tuned, however the long awaited plead to make Cure reflect depending on the Heal Skill has never been taken seriously.
    - CureV and High level elemental magic spell cost has been reduced, however the resist rate of low tier Blm spells has been increased.
    - Over all there were some good improvement for the mage lines. Stoneskin became a usable spell (I think they were fixed rate before but they added MND and Enhance skill mod with this patch), and bar spell are now casted almost instantly with improved effect.
    - Drain and Aspir become more reliable and a powerfull asset to the Blm.
    - Some mobs in Boyada, Terrigan and Onzozo has been moved and became a high level hunting area. At the same time, it starts to appear Level range which were difficult to exp due to the lack of hunting ground.
    - During search, you can now chose the region you want to search and the numbers of names displayed becomes max of 100. Less lag, but more unreliable.
    - RaiseII becomes easier to obtain, however RaiseIII has been added. AH are now put in every area in jeuno (I think previously it was only in Lower Jeuno and Rurude Guarden if I recall...)
    - They have added chocobos in the Zilart towns (Kazam, norg, rabao) and the fee to use the moghouse has been removed. (previously it had to pay starting from 1k, then 500, then 250 to none)
    - Kindred Seal BCNM has been added.
    - 4th Genkai was about answering some quiz, which were easy going for most of the users.
    - Crafting materials which were considered as items beyond reach of casual players has now been dropped from these new BCNMs (Damask cloth I bet...)
    - Rare HNM and NMs now has been implemented (Like Fafninr => Niddhog). However this made users who hunted these mobs which spawns in the timeframe of 60~72 hours to continusouly hunt these mobs in hopes for the new HNMs to spawn, previously people took breaks on hunting. (since they always hunted the same thing)
    - When you migrated to another kingdome, the CP stayed where you left instead of being resetted, and users started to migrate in other kingdome to reach those rank10 in all kingdoms.
    - Escort quest has been added which you could earn item that can increase your exp, some had hopes in possible to skip exping just by doing the quest, but due to its limitation this was a mare "Extra' thing they could do.
    - Gears which previously were displayed as requiring lvl80 has now been lowered to 75 for most of them. So the users had started to believe that lvl 80 could be the final level in this game.
    - Events that you have seen can once again viewed by talking to the newly added NPCs.
    - <call> feature has been increased
    - Support buff that were given from guild's duration has been increased as well as cost has been lowered.

    Event which the task was to kill a giant toad event has been opened (In our case, Giant christmas tree). This was the introduction of OP teleport service. People viewed this event, boring and pointless but necesary for the reward.

    GM giving information to an illegal user has been punished. It was to demonstrate how strict Square deal towards those who break the regulation. However, since everyone knew about how corrupted the Gms were they had more suspicious views towards the GM rather than respect.

    User agreement has been modified and Fishbot, 3rd party program use has been banned. Despite this anouncement, the rate of Bot Ban were very minimal and the Fish bot were still intact. Towards the player they did not mind about the fish bots at the current time. Later on, it seems that they have begun to persue the Fish botters using bans however the amount of Fishbot never decreased, and its influence has began to be a serious problem. They still don't know if the turbo controlers were considered bots. However it still remains a pretty bad problem.

    Square have anounced some of the future implementation in the game. PvP, Dynamis, Cap removal and the NA release. In here, it was anounced for the first time that the NA release will be using the same server as the JP. "We consider this as an experiment" such words came from the president of square. ( Do that in the F*cking test server jesus!)

    - Zilart and the three kingdom's final mission has been implemented.
    - At the same time, Ru avitau has been implemented, and the Divine might(i think this was the english name given to the BC fighting all AAs at once) has been added.
    - Sleepga and SleepgaII has been added.
    - The TP reset on swapping ammo has been finally fixed.
    - New bolts such as Acid bolt, Sleep bolt has been added.
    - Clearmind has been enhanced, and mages had an easiertime. However the need of Rdm and brd in a party has never changed.
    - Search comment now have 4 categories.
    - The ever so useless GA elemental spells has been now enhanced. They use big chunk of mp and the damage is spreaded depending on how many mobs you hit, but became more usable. However when the mob uses the same spell, the damage won't spread but remains the same.
    - NMs which drop EX items has been increased alot. The reason was to avoid people of hunting the same mobs for the same items over and over and profit from it. Their idea was not bad. However, people considered this as you don't really have to get them, and since it was so poorly implemented that not many had gone searching for these items. It still continues to be implemented, but the problem is the NM or HNM that drops the EX item also drops the NON EX items which are profitable. It was so badly implemented that it almost doesn't have any effect on people farming. (yep.. such as cloth from aquarius, Light cloth from King behemoth etc etc etc... People will still fight them as long as they drop a profitable non ex item)
    - They say that NMs can be fought in a leveling up parties. However knowing that Ninja tank was an unexpected event for the developers, their balance mind is very questionable.
    - Trigger NM and HNMs were also implemented.
    - Some HNM who poped every 60~72 hours has now been set to once per day.
    - New BCNMs were added.
    - Elemental ores were added but at this time it was very rare.
    - /sit has been added. Mithra's sit were changed soon after (someone thought it was a harasment. Who said it I have no clue.)
    - For new entertainment, Lucky roll has been added. But users have interpreted this as a very poor entertainment method, and question what the hell the developers are really thinking.
    - Chocobo digging (not sure how you say this in english) has been enhanced and becomes rather profitable gil farming. However the Riding skill still remains as a hidden status.
    - Crafting success and failure can now be seen to other players and filter was also added.

    Release of NA version. On the three kingdoms the area is filled with shout and becomes heated. During the first time of international interaction, people had more positive opinions. However with the constant comments such as "PL me" "Give me Gil" "Give me item", the sexual harrasment comments, and the style of PT play where people comes in and out constantly the JP users starts to have difficulties in interating with each other, and negative opinions starts to show more. At the same time the tab translation system were implemented, personal tell such as " [Help me out] [Cap][Coffer][Thank you]" were rejected mostly and [JP ONLY] comments were added in the search comment. Till today, the amount of plead towards the need of different servers were so popular which could lead to a conclusion that merge itself were unpopular. Developers and even the President himself states "JP and NA PT and tab system were so popular that we are greatfull" (HUH!? WHA? WTF??? /dies). Such imagination who god knows where it came from are still a mystery.

    NA problem

    JP has a strong feeling of rejection towards the NA as explained before, but at the same time for NA it was not a good idea eighther. The already built and controled market, Gil flowing, Rise of the items and price. From the hands of the JP, its culture and custom were formed. The NA people are forced to walk the trail which were made by the JP, without any sort of new discoveries, new stratergies etc.

    On Foreign boards, comments such as "JP ONLY" is a racial discrimination, or absurd which already some reaches to the conclusion that we cannot mutualy play with each other which also what most JP believes. (FFXI based) From some High level's view, the people who has lower pings are obviously has the advantage, which in this case NAs are in the disadvantage. (although considering some Chinese ?? do provoke relatively fast, its not very clear or sure)

    The very least, other MMORPG has the freedome for the users to chose their language. Thinking on that fact, the Multi national server merge came from business point of view and completely ignoring the users opinions.

    Due to the fact that JP people had the game for much longer, and to be able to compete with them or to work to their standards, such actions like RMT were a needed method, and it was normal to sell their account when they retire, it is believed that these actions might have lured the Chinese gillsellers towards the game.

    About "There is no problem because the peak time is different even they are in the same server" is complete bogus since the clash comes the
    from differences between the language problem. the custom and the common sense. Users will are still disreguarded and the discussion of this Merge is still talked today.

    Such comment like "FFXI freaks are Foreigners boycotts so they suck" and "I can't speak englsih thats why its JP ONLY whats wrong with that?" are pretty oftenly used.

    - Some regions had some intentional suicides (to lower that reagion's influence of given kingdome I believe), NA newbies entering the game it was often that the region were controled by beastmen. To counter this, up till level 5 the players won't be participating in the conquest. However, places such as Elsimo, Qufim and Alagon (Garliage region dunno the exact spelling) were usually conquered by beastmen.
    - Crafters finds out that some crafted beastmen pet items were sold high in shops, of course gets patched soon after.

    - "Yokodama" is an uxpected event so might fix it, which was commented in the interview. From users aswell, they stated that the battle was too simple so wanted to nerf it.     - The cap being 75 and not planning to go any further was agreeable, however the implementation of Dynamis and PvP alone were not taken as an expantion of enjoyment, about job balancing issue has been completely forgotten and people question was there any necesity of holding the level?
    - With this patch, the dreams of Drk getting 3 line of spell and Ninjas getting 3 line of ninjutu has been canceled.
    - What we could say the core of the battle Yokodama has been nerfed, and Shield break has been nerfed at the same time. However the accuracy formula of skill 200+ has been revised and improved, which made possible for melees to have enough accuracy even without a bard.
    - Level3 Skill chains power, the strength of 70+ black magics, addition of new usefull gears towards the mages, Flash and Stun addition, improvement in drops of Black magic scrolls, Skill and 2hour ability improvement, all in all towards the combat balance has been facing the right direction.
    - Resist up traights has been improved, however towards ITs they were insignificant.
    - Abilities which considered a waste, such as killers, and circles has been enhanced ant the mob now gets paralised from time to time. Previously these traights seemed to have a slow or haste effect.
    - Some mobs has been swapped in its location and hunting ground such as KRT, Sky and rancor's den has become a popular hunting ground. Made easier access to Ro Mauve and it also became one of the popular place to hunt.
    - Drk who were always in the darkest of paths, had a new light in becomming a strong attacker. However the thieves the thieves becomes unpopular.
    - Wheeling thrust has been improved, but damage wise it didn't even risen over 50 damage.
    - About the new WS, it was made for questing to remove those latent effect. But in reality it was planned to eighther aquire at level 70, or to give those jobs who have B trait in skill and not have an SPEX ws to have another fighting tool their way of implement were pretty suspicious, if not stupid.
    - The Beastmen headquarter areas has been retouched. However it is located in such a bad place and only the interior has been modified, these places has remained dead and un populated.
    - Orc's HP has been modified and retouched and it was used as an alternative hunting ground.
    - Mobs such as Wyverns and Manticores has been added a bonus exp since they were stronger than usual mobs. By putting this 1.2 ~1.3 more exp than their level, they have tryed to avoid which mob is easier and gives more exp and such. However due to the fact that these were implemented in such a minority of the mobs that people simply ignored it.
    - Abjuration and Sky NM, the Big three HNM (I have no clue what they are... not the 3 dragons.) has been added.
    - Sky Nms are basically triggered NM although it sitll has competition, it became an easier type of HNM and due to many successes the amount of Sky LS has increased. Those who never hunted or had a chance to hunt an HNM, could manage to get something out of them by just playing on weekends.
    - However, the Big Three NM are a lottery pop of an NM that pops once per day and has a spawn range of 3~9 days. Its strength itself was not high and it could be even to a medium scaled LS, however those item greed LS had to start camping the Placeholder HNM itself every day to have the chance of the Big three HNMs. (Could this be Nidhogg, adpi what ever and another one?) But even after promathia, there hasn't been any HNM that had a better drops than these HNMs.
    - Gravity towards NM has been somehow nerfed that the effect of gravity now have half effect when it is applied for the second time. This has been adressed.
    - BUT, somehow they allowed to keep the HNM to sleep (DOH! stupid stupid stupid -_-)
    - Escort quest has went live
    - Garisson has become live
    - Many people begged to make the furnitures to have some meaning. They have added the new container type of furnitures, however it uses your space and also cannot be used unless you go back to your home town. (and since jeuno is hometown to most of the people now it is pretty pointless...)
    - New recepie to make a crafting component needed for the elemental staffs were made and the Elemental staffs become a common items towards many users.

    The big christmass tree event which is the clone of the big toad event has been made. The day it was implemented the hp of this mob never decreased. (but people used it to skill up lol lol lol) After it was fixed, the company have threatened the users that if the tree is not killed, that server won't be allowed to use the OP teleports. Which the users kill and now happily using the teleport service.

    Deleted characters are now able to regain their characters again. This was rumored that it has been implemented from one of the user incidents that happend beforehand.

    *Note, this very incident happend in our very server Quetzalcoatl. It is known as Earth's Festival. To summerise, Earth has used the friend's account in real life since that very day that friend went to visit his house and used her account in Earth's house, left it logged in and told him to delete the user when you are done. What Earth did was to loot every valuable item from there, deleted Ibara's character. When Ibara logged in, she was with newbie gear and level1. Soon discovered that Earth's mule has sold all the valuable through AH. Won't go into more detail since it might end as a 1k essay post.

    - Dynamiss now went live
    - Even understanding the concepts of Dynamiss itself pre launch during the test phases the lag that produced, the poor AF2 drop rate, boring repetitive encounters, difficulties setted way too high for it standards made the users very disapointed of what was most seeked. Ofcourse there were some people who does enjoy. As a result, till today there are tours of Dynamiss opening every week. However the systematic problems that a game have has a limit that the player can control, and with countless runs people simply go there with the mind set of "there is nothing better to do".
    - Battle system were also forgotten
    - A high speed cactus NM has been added
    - Skeletons blood saber now absorb ridiculous amount of hp (like 150 from each member usualy about 90~110s)
    - Hard to explain this one... it seems that before the caster type weapons cause link to other magic detecting mob when they cast a buff toward other weapon.
    - Silence is now easier to land on ghosts.
    - Rune gear has been implemented from a quest of the mysterious devices that were located in several areas.
    - Fenrir has been added
    - Rdm Genkai 5 has become easier (doesn't use fire3, doesn't attack that fast)

    - Artifact quest can now be repeated.

    - Ballista has gone live. Many people were seeking this feature but due to the unbalancing feature, the difficulties of entry procedure, lack of prize items had made only a fraction of the people to participate in the PvP.
    - Using the 999 delay weapon exploit, when used a multi hit ws they received 100+TP instantly. To adress this they have nerfed the TP system completely. But this never affected Barrage. As a result, some of the job's WS has become gimped (Dragoon pentathrust, guilotin and such) and lowered there presence in the party.
    - Dragoons were gifted now with spirit link, the long awaited dragon curing ability. But at this stage dragoon has been treated nothing but a entertainment job.
    - Thieves now have the shooting skill (?? I dunno how is displayed in english version)
    - Pets now have the master's name, but with bugs.
    - New fields which made us to believe its the followup of Dynamiss were added, the mistery of the existance of the relic weapon now they were shown they have their own WS when they were polished to the final form to the public. However the rarity of the money, the vast amount of gil needed and time sink made many users to simply give up.
    - New parts were added in dynamiss that when ever you defeated the boss had a feature that loads of monsters spawn around them which made Dynamis Jeuno completely unstable, and unbalanced in difficulty.
    - AF2 drops has been stealthly increased without any announcement.
    - Summoners have now able to get their avatars at level 20, however it became difficult to level a summoner without having fenrir at your disposal.
    - Mentor system was implemented.
    - The quest which were thought the reward were an abjuration resulted as a Summoner only quest (Evoker's ring I bet...)
    - You can now put your name in your crafted items

    Since this spring, there have been increasing amount of Chinese gill sellers throughout the area. (I will abreviate as CGS later on) Their name were always similar with each other, and they own multiple account controled by a few selected people, swapping players and acting 24/7. Their goal are "Real money trade RMT". These people are hired workers and also were those users who have destroyed LinageII. (I know makes little sence but I really don't know how to explain this)

    Soon after the CGS has become a major problem. But the RMT itself were a difficult problem to deal with, and not enough mesures, if not no mesures were taken to counter this situation. Vanadiels famous gil farming spots were flowing with CGS, and conquered. This problem is a major hit to the people who are enjoying FFXI, but similar to language barrier problem, solution or counter measures are still not taking place.

    It is true that the problem comes from the game mechanics allowing this sort of action, but recently RMT websites can now be searched in the search engines. The User morale is starting to decrease dramatically these days. They took some action again, and banning has taken place but still in Vanadiel these CGS are high in number. Inflation are taking place, and the RMT prices are getting lower. (Which helps more people to access the RMT)

    - Chain of Promathia expantion has been announced. It was announced before that no new jobs will be added. Unlike Zilard, this expantion was not in the plan of developing and was made separate from FFXI. But the product itself when it was released was something that no one wanted.

    - Ballista's entry has now become free. And more ajustment were made. But already the heat of PvP has ended to most of the users.
    - Merit point system has been implemented. For the amount of exp needed and the very minimum increase in its spent points some people have complained. But sitll they keep exping in order to aquire their MP.
    - Some areas of the existing map has been modified and more hunting grounds for the 70s were made. (which were very small in number)
    - BC ajustment (I think the no buff thing)
    - Evisaration's WS element were changed and now thieves can work with drk better. However, the era of Drk skill chain has never come even after Promathia release.
    - Alliance BCNM were has been implemented. However, they demand specific jobs, the amount of people needed and the poor drops compared to its effort needed, it never became popular.
    - Garrison has been improved and some nice items were added.
    - Manequin has been added but it became a simple Armor storage that occupies your space.

    The already infested Fish bots has now spread the world the easy way of making money. The Rusty cap polished could sell to vendor for 2500 gil, now this rumor has been spread out and more Fish botters have gathered in Rabao. Sadly, this rusty cap itself were planned to counter fish bots. Light crystal has become more and more expensive and it reached to a stage that 1 cluster were 10k gil. This made many people go to sky in search for light elementals. During this time, the inflation were already starting to appear.

    EU service has started. However they never made a server for them and brought back the (Pointless stupid and unlogical) peak time theory. However post promathia release the overpopulation became absurd and made more servers.

    - Pre Promathia expantion patch. People has expected alot of things adding like pre Zilart patch.
    - Blood pact moves has now got an element implemented (in some of them.)
    - Appart from Wheeling thrust has been enhanced, no other battle change has been made.
    - Utusemi has been nerfed, however the ninja tank is still intact, and continue to be so.
    - Blink and Third eye now has no meaning towards weapon's Stun AoE.
    - Merit point possibilities has been expanded, now you can have more enmity, or less more skill and other things. On level restricted areas, exp were added to your main level when you are on merit point exp, but never implemented to the actual level exp. (hence it won't increase your level exp)
    - In the past it was planned to put items with charges, now it came live items which has enchantment effect.
    - New harvesting type has been added (dunno name in english) but nothing amusing.
    - Now with Promathia disc the PS2 users can skip pol window and go directly to FFXI screen. Also with /shotdown you can logout and the turn the PS2 off. People say this is the best feature added in Promathia expantion.

    - Registration server died. (again...) Making the same mistake as when the game was first launched made unpopularity.
    - New area maps could be bought over and over. Same as in ZIlard expantion release... unpopularity from users.
    - After this event, when you failed to version up users were asked to install the FFXI from the very start. With all this F*ck ups alot of users became angry that not only have bugs but server maintenance has been screwed? Unpopularity again rose.

    Chain of promathia


    As announced before, this expantion has put alot of effort in the mission contents. However it became a product that there are only missions added and nothing else. Missions aswell, like the previous errors they made, there were jobs which were difficult to participate due to the horrible balance, and the difficulty to surpass the long way in promivon has made this expantion further unpopular.

    Users who just hit 20 could also participate, so were told towards the users. However the first mission being 30cap, has a BCNM fight in the end, not only your cap is 30, but specific jobs were required, with demanded sub and must have gears, even the most wanted job were asked to have specific items on them. Such difficulty are too much for those people who has reached level 20 for the first time. Due to the level cap, the possibility of lifting the level cap in order to make things easier were not possible.
    At first curiosity and sight seeing were happening often. But in reality only 2~3 areas were used as leveling up purpose, and most of the new areas were not populated.

    The textures and new mobs amount were larger than in Zilart, however all these monsters have a very fast melee attacks, old model mobs has new WS. Their location is pretty bad, and under the level cap influence you cannot get Full exp, unlike in Zilart there were no such posibility to use these new areas as specific level hunting ground.



    First we make the events and plots then make the map was the concept of Promathia map making, some say due to this the difficulty of accessing the areas has made frustration and not enjoyable. Without new jobs, spells nor ws added, no modification to the battle system, High difficulty missions, the need of rebuying certain gears due to the level restricted areas were not attractive towards users who played the game for 2+ years, just by experiencing the difficulty of Promivon, people had judged the expantion to be a "Failed product". Till today, Promathia missions has never been a popular expantion.

    "The need of people and large timesink" were always a negative point in FFXI. In this expantion not only they haven't fixed on this issue but it made it even worse. The awaited new "Outfits" were not that good status wise, and considering how hard to obtain them it was not worthwhile. Personaly the high difficulty missions are not a problem, but considering that FFXI system allows very limited items to carry in their inventory, the level restriction doesn't seem to match very well to the FFXI system itself. Already alot of NA users reached level 75, and I (the author) don't see the necesity of such wide scale level restricted areas appart from BCNMs. The major problem were: Due to the lack of things that players had once reaching 75, not adding new contents to their standards and further more they have not expanded what were currently doing (adding new 70s hunting areas and such) were a major hit. The director of CoP has stated that they have extended the prograssion of the lower levels, which is the truth that nothing new has been added appart from mission concept. Mission, NM, New dynamis, New merit point are mere expantion of existing things, and not even that is done well in CoP expantion. The Director's "Expanded the lower level content" could be interpretate as "Expanded lower areas with level restriction" to many users. It was this severe that the expantion itself were so different from the interviews pre launch. As a result, not adding any progress towards the end content and not fullfilling enough to the low level content by placing severe restrictions, some believe FFXI is reaching its end.

    Items which made profit by vendor selling has been nerfed. Before hand you could steal mithril beast coins from beastmen, but they have swapped them to silver beast coins. This has further made the new areas unpopular, and users have deserted from these places.

    The unexpected patch which were launched before a month passed from the launch date. Modifications and adjustment has been made to the Promathia contents. Mission has been expanded but the difficulty remained very high. Even having the 18 men alliance restriction, they have implemented an HNM which needed 20~50 people, adding the fact that their loot is poor. New costume has been added, but has a outrageous difficulty to aquire them.

    - RMT restriction has been anounced once again towards the users. The NM has been changed slightly to prvent users to camp continuously in the same place, however this made the CGSs to worry a bit but still was not strict enough for them to stop their activities. The items which replaced old NM dropped items, this solution still fails to be effective. The promathia mission difficulties has been reduced, and new NMs has been added throught the new areas involving quest item drops. However this is not good enough to be a solution.

    - Without warning, Double attack and Tripple attack no longer activates while on WS.

    - Food and Drink effects has been changed dramatically. Including sushi's increased accuracy made it easier to hit those IT mobs.

    - The AH cost became much higher and caused severe unpopularity.

    - One of the seeked features were the chat filter but it made the filtering even worse.

    - Assasinate has been added towards the thieves and made the Trick attack more powerfull alone, but nothing else has been changed in the battle system.

    - BC has increased further more

    - Ballista now grants you rewards but can only be used in ballista.

    - After 1year that Kirin and 4 gods has been implemented and finally they added unique textures towards them.

    Thats it folks. Comments on how games changed are welcome in this thread. Use it in a non flaming manner if possible. Game has changed much, both good but also in many negative ways. I have started the game since September 2002. Have seen many things happening over the course of FFXI, although I have made a half year break before hand (pre making Shiia). From the hands of Square, many cash making method were destroyed, which makes me to believe that RMT became more extensice use than before.

    The lack of good items dropped from so called EX item drop Nms and the items who are sold to the highest bidder existed since the very launch of the game has severely made me think the game is not improving much, if not adding many things which are not worth of its efforts. HNM is a good example. No good loot dropping HNM has been added since when? Kirin could be the last HNM added which people would hunt down. The new 3 dragons doesn't drop anything better than the previous ones and requires more people to defeat AND has a higher respawn table. Level restriction in promathia areas were both good and bad. It is at the very least not easy

    In the beginning the balance was that you wouldn't skill up if you didn't cast your rod and catch fish.(?)
    Back in the day you actually had to land a fish to get skillups. Now you can fail to land it and still get a skillup so long as you reduce the fish's stamina. (well, it occurs to me that this change pre-dated the new fishing system, but still....originally you had to land the fish to get a skillup)

    - AH became very unstable, lowered the amount of items you could put in the AH and also added a 30second delay per viewing. (lots and lots and looooots of disconnection in jeuno that was not funny)

It has been spread through out the game, and several days later it has been fixed, aswell as rollup happened. Those people who tryed to use this exploit post patch has been banned.
    So apparently, people would start a synth on, say, Mhaura boat right before it zoned, for a free chance at skillup? Seems kind of time consuming, unless there's another way to force a zone while synthing ("PL" BLM that casts D2?).

    - Not only the WS but also have issues with accuracy equation. Prior to skill level 200, the equation of accuracy was 1skill = 1accuracy. Post skill 200 the accuracy equation becomes 1skill =0.2 accuracy.

    - Warrior's Aggressor got nerfed. Before it was 25% accuracy up and 25% evation down, now became a fixed number.
    WAR were god-kings before this patch?

    - Appart from some specific players, people now have started to gain exp against Tough~Very tough mobs. However, exp gained from Even con and tough has also been lowered. Their tactics shifted from skill chain to spamming multi hit WS.
    So basically, TP burn against T~VT has been around since April 03.

    - New items with Latent effect has been introduced. However users could not determin these effect since eighther they were not displayed or could not determin how to activate it.
    Didn't know that Latent Effect was an RoZ invention.

    Zilard mission.

    No good nor bad, typical expantion. Using same model mobs on most areas. Lack of progression and improvement were part of the dislikes in the FFXI comunity. But what worse were those countless nerfs Square made post the launch of Zilart expantion, the inflation in economy (limited stock items), untuned areas. And many have quitted when they saw the horrendous exp table that you needed to get in order to advance, the level difference, the accuracy problems...
    Wow, I wasn't aware that RoZ was received so poorly. Seems like TAU is the only expansion that had players busting nuts on release day.

    - Level 70cap has been anounced. New spells but no new WS added. The developers stated that they have used all the resources in the existing WS graphical effects.

    I've heard about this before, it's the reason you lose synth materials when someone casts on you. Yes they just hired/dualboxed blms to d2 them over and over.

    I had a friend that started at JP launch and he said that this was exactly how it was back then, fighting mostly T's with hate bouncing between the melee. He said the whole IT craze didn't start till level 3 SC's were introduced, when a SC/MB on IT at that stage were more effective for exp, then the mentality trickled down to lower levels.

    There was also no sushi back then and acc gear was very limited, so TP burns weren't nearly as effective as they are now.

    I would have to argue that upping the level cap 4 times in roughly 1 year would have been a terrible waste of content. It just seems to me like they would have been better off spreading major updates like that out to something like once every 1-2 years.

    Doing that would result in a system not unlike WoW's, where the ultimate boss of years ago is easily soloed now.

    Do you really think the game would be better if Byakko were as easy as Shadow Lord?

    Depends on if they also added pants that made Byakko's look like AF.

    I wouldn't necessarily say that would be a bad thing. Would make it so you can "easily" gear up to a decent and respected level without having to commit to a linkshell, join just to gear up then leave, or buy it off a ls. I mean, it's been a while since those days, but I remember some major drama over some kitty pants, lol.

    I think it was originally 8. Also OP, I say keep going, it's always interesting reading other perspectives.

    Also, for anyone who started post-ToAU (like me), if you're bored one day go back and find old threads on BG for when stuff like Limbus was first introduced. Kinda neat seeing how people first responded to stuff. XD

    TP burns were the best shit in the game long before sushi, as soon as you got into multi hit ws range. 70+ tp return on guillo double attacks or 66 just with sam sub om nom nom

    Well to be fair... early NA HNMLSes (like founding BG, Machina, Paradise Oblivion, HiddenPower) knew that hate decayed over time as well as when taking damage/blinking. We just did not have it quantified outside of 'ok, lets get 2 naked elf paladins to flash a mob and see what happens'.

    Around this time, many early endgame bards and paladins believed that Charisma also had an effect of enmity generation, either thru adding more enmity or changing the speed that it decreased. We did notice that bards generated insane amounts of hate over time at fights like Fafnir, but couldn't explain why. We were loaded up with CHR gear, and even some Paladin AF had CHR gear, so some started to think that it was related.
