so I got a new router when I switched ISPs and now PS3 wont go online...

anyone have any tips? I think i have set up port forwarding, etc. but it still claims no ethernet is connected, nor will it connect to wireless, and it is simply driving me crazy.

Few general things to try if you haven't already:

    Power cycle everything.
Reset your settings to Factory Defaults on your router.
Delete and remake your internet profile on your PS3.

The most likely thing to have happened is that your router they gave you is on another IP address (either 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x, or has a different subnet mask) and your PS3 doesn't want to recognise the change. But without actually being at your PS3 and computer and trying to problem solve I can't really say for sure, only stipulate.

If you follow the 3 steps above, that should hopefully sort the issue out. If it doesn't, post back with everything that you've done, with details like the IP on your router, on your PS3, etc. So we can see exactly whats going on.

Clear the network settings on the PS3 and make sure it's set to auto-detect. Make sure DHCP is enabled on the router. Turn off uPnP on the router.

Assuming you have other working computers hooked up and they're working fine, it's likely a problem with the PS3. Resetting your network settings should do the trick, it sounds like it's still trying to use the old settings.

ok I reset the PS3 to default settings, and disabled uPnP, got on wirelessly, but downloading a 111kb file is taking in excess of 5 minutes. Still says to connect an ethernet even though one is. Any info I need to post that would help, and can you tell me where to get said info? I am not the most tech savvy. =/

ok so even though I know the cable works, the lights on it don't come on, also plugging the cable right into the modem (Linksys CM100) didn't work either, so is the issue with the modem?

Try changing out the cable anyway, and try a different port on the router

Try a different cable directly into the modem, so if that works you can narrow down the problem area.

Well if it works on your computer... No...

I think your problem lies with the PS3 itself. I can't for the life of me think of anything else though that you might to do solve this besides ensure that you've definately reset your PS3 to all default network settings and then connected it up via ethernet properly, or phone Sony and ask if they'll have a look. Because something sounds up.

I'm gonna try exchanging for a different router, as I have heard the PS3 can have issues with netgear routers, if that doesn't work I will contact Sony. Its just that it worked until the day we got the new router, so it stopping working the day we get a new one seems too much of a coincidence.

Hmm how strange. I thought all along that it was a new modem you got, not a new router. Yeah, definately try get a replacement. Haha.

Sorry about that, prolonged brainfart aparently.
