yay or nay? (more wedding crap)

    boss mentioned this:

    Catalina Island Weddings

sounds like a cool idea, but originally we were gonna get married at the church my fiance went to sunday school to.

Not too excited about non-denominational minister.

But that island has awesome views and would be rather pretty

    also that's hella cheap

only other downside is it's a little far to get to, so guests would probably have to get a hotel there.

I got married in October, and we did it locally. We dropped several thousand dollars flying to weddings last year, and have grown to hate the idea of a "destination wedding."

Hotel stays and travel factor into what your guests will have to pay, and they can really add up.

Destination weddings: sweet for you. Expensive pain in the ass for your guests.

I don't care what great deal you found me - you just turned a a half day party into a 2-3 day trip. I might have liked you enough to show up and buy a gift if you have an open bar. I probably don't like you enough to spend a whole weekend on you.

Save the destination for the honeymoon.

My response to destination weddings is a hearty fuck you. My friend wants my wife and I to come with them to Cancun for their wedding. He then invited my brother in law and sister in law as well. He's wondering now why nobody is willing to shell out a grand per person to go to some fucking resort.

ksandra if you do a destination wedding you're a fucking moron and deserve to be shot in the face. They are good if you're only having your immediate family come or if you want it to be just between you and your husband. But if you're expecting all your friends and family to come along you're in for a shock. Don't do it. Do not do it. Get a church, reap the benefits of all your friends and family being there.

I thought that was the point - half the people at a wedding were obligatory invitations that the bride and groom didn't want there in the first place. The destination wedding is a giant middle finger that keeps them all out!

Unfortunately, it screws over your real friends and family too, so it's not ideal.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Personally I wouldn't marry a girl who doesn't know the difference between 'yay' and 'yea'. Just putting it out there.

Personally I wouldn't marry a girl who could read enough to recognize either one, so there's that.

As an English major, I wouldn't want to marry anyone who thinks that our language never evolves and that informal talk isn't allowed on the internet.

    yay definition | Dictionary.com

    yay (yā)
interj. Used as an exclamation of pleasure, approval, elation, or victory.

    [Alteration of yea.]

I had to study up on the way languages evolve for one of my recent tests for certification. Don't even bother trying to tell me "what once was, will always be" when it comes to incorporating slang into informal speech/writing.
