Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith start 'Karate Kid' remake

Didn't like the kid's acting, especially when he was trying to act hurt. I did like Jackie Chan's character. Everything else was stereotypical. I also didn't like the way he won the last match. Mediocre movie.

I guess the character progression was better and more natural. It's not just kid gets bullied and meets chinese master there is actually more to the story. Overall, I found that the characters where much better developed than in the original. You see where the kid and his mother is coming from, aswell as Jackie Chan and the cultural differences they have to deal with. Although, they did portray the kid as kind of a cocky american, I think the story called for it and it was a nice touch that they dint make Jackie Chan into this grand asian karate master (a stereotypical asian like in the original). It's not an oscar winner if you're looking for one but I found it a good watch.

there is actually quite a bit of depth and subtlety in the original. I haven't seen the new one yet but movies these days tend to take extra steps to spell obvious shit out that smarter people or just cinema people can ascertain from something as simple as a look or a gesture.

Mr. Miyagi was not your "stereotypical asian" karate master, he was teaching daniel self discipline through ordinary daily action in a time that the concepts of buddhism and zen were relatively unknown to the american public. and they conveyed it all without saying the words zen or buddhist or even implying the belief system.

tl;dr you don't know what the fuck is up, you were spoon fed a plot and enjoyed it

The Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith sequel to The Karate Kid is moving forward. News has recently hit that Columbia Pictures has hired Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand) to re-write the script for the movie. As much as I was biased against the original remake of the film, I ultimately and surprisingly ended up liking it. It was a very well-made film. It's not better than the original, but it was still very entertaining. If you haven't seen it yet I suggest you check it out, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The movie made over $359 million dollars worldwide, and we knew a sequel was coming. As of right now there are no plot details, but the two stars of the first film are expected to reprise their roles. I think Penn will do a fine job taking on the script for the film and might be able help create a sequel that could be better than the first.

It looks like Harald Zwart will be back to direct the sequel, and in a previous interview with comingsoon he had this to say about the sequel:

I remember just watching Jaden and Jackie on and off camera and thinking, 'They're such a good movie couple.' They're just a good two characters I think. I definitely think we can take these two people somewhere else, but that's all up to the success. I'm open for anything.

I actually liked the new Karate Kid movie so hopefully this won't suck. I guess it helps that I wasn't super-attached to the old movie though, so I wasn't betraying any childhood memories by liking this one. I'm really surprised how many people didn't like this one though. I guess the ending is kind of forgettable compared to the old one though.

I liked the new one as well. EXCEPT FOR THE ENDING KICK. That was bull shit. If they had done something that wasn't CG it would have been a really really good movie. That ending kick just made me go wtf.
