new Monkey Island games

anyone else pumped? it was one of my favorite series growing up, maybe my favorite outside of console rpgs... an xbox live remake is out tomorrow 7/15 and last week was the first episode of the new Tales of Monkey Island series which i haven't checked out yet, but want to soon.

Just got Tales of Monkey Island for the PC and I'm loving it so far. They've really done the Monkey Island games of old justice IMO. It's got the feel, and of course the humor, of the old games. My only complaint is the controls. Oh and lack of Murray the demonic talking skull. He better damn well show up somewhere in this.

I'm a big MI fan but haven't tried 'Tales' so far although I'm hoping to get to play it fairly soon.

The remake of the original game strikes me as being very peculiar. I watched the 'Making of' video on YouTube a few days ago and think the fact you can switch modes during gameplay between the old style and new style is kinda cool. That being said I dunno whether to buy the Special Edition as I already own the original but guess it could be an interesting experience to try something old from a different perspective.

Damn now I want to dig out all the MI games and replay them all again b;

I own the Special Edition, and for the most part, I dislike the PC controls (you actually need the keyboard to access inventory, and that there's no verb wheel like in Curse of Monkey Island), and the lack of allowing the talkie in the classic mode.

Yeah I noticed the vid said you had to use a command to access the inventory as it's hidden off-screen. Are the controls different from the older (pc) version or can you just use the mouse as normal?

Same controls, you click to move to location, verbs in new menu are access via either Ctrl (which pops up a box of verbs), the short-hand keys (which I use since I'm forced to use the keyboard anyhow), or scrolling through them via mouse wheel (sloooow).

Only 'major' gameplay additions is the hint system (which gives hints based on how often you access them, going from vague, to obvious, to then pointing a big friggen arrow on the screen as to where to go, making you look like a retard), and having right-click use a 'default' action on given objects. (handy for opening/closing doors behind you, which I have a bad habit of doing in these type of games)

Tales is definitely worth a purchase. It perfectly captures the Monkey Island feel and is loads of fun. I really can't wait for chapter two.

I got this game the other week, and loving it so far. But ive ran into a major snag, after a certain cut scene my game just... crashes, it keeps doing it over and over, and I cannot progress any further. Seems a few people are having similar problems with it. Really upset about it, otherwise its been great so far.

Tales is really good. I've since completed it.. but its really good.. much better than my impression of Escape from Monkey Island..

controls were pretty smooth, tho they took some time to get used to. lotsa jokes. funny stuff. maybe i'm just experienced with the game but it didnt take me too long to figure out all the puzzles..

I played the remake, nice of them to do it but... Guybrush looks horrible ;P All in all I couldn't get myself to play it again. Was enough that I finished original.
But I somehow missed that they also made new games. Will check Tales for sure.

You know, the puzzles weren't especially hard but they did give me that "we're so clever, game, me and you" feeling more than once and, even if I don't stumble for hours finding that feeling, I find that feeling to be the most important part of an adventure game.

I solved the rotating statues puzzles without difficulty, but each solution, especially the cheese wheel, was immensely satisfying. Same with french doctor's operating room. I was impressed.

So I finished episode 2, and it was pretty good. A tad shorter then episode 1 though. I just wish they'd stop teasing us each episode with Murray and just put him in already.

I completely agree. Back in the day, I played CMI first, and then went back and played the others, and I always wished he was in them all. Love every scene Murray's in.

Also, I'm glad that there's a market still for graphical adventures. I was getting tired of seeing only nancy drew games being released.

There is a new Syberia game coming out next year. However, it'll be quite different from the previous games.
