Then you are doing a good job acting like a used car salesman. Trying to get people to pay for an incomplete and broken alpha? Maybe a good deal for him, but you have nothing to gain for ripping people off.

Considering the state most MMOs (and many boxed video games) are in when they launch it's not entirely foreign to pay for incomplete, broken product. His only hubris is being honest about it.
That said he's not proving much of a businessman, and needs to seriously consider raising capital and hiring someone who actually knows how to run a successful software company so that he can get his pet project off the ground. That he is charging to cover the costs of an alpha test already demonstrates he knows very little about growing a market for a highly experimental product.
Whoa there big guy, calm down, nobody is making you buy the voucher. I mentioned that I bought it as a sign of support, I did not suggest everyone follow suit. lol
Correction makes a good point, I see it as a way to show my support for him, not as buying a product, although it is nice to see a playable version of the game and knowing he is working on getting it to a wider audience. I think his overall rationale was that he would not be able to get it running without monetary support so he figured he'd try to get the interested customers to buy in. That being said, usually the developer is expected to go out on the limb and cover the initial costs especially for alpha testing, but really you can't fault him for trying this approach especially considering the circumstances (being a one man team).
Congratulations on becoming the official consumer advocate for everyone who couldn't possibly make decisons on their own or obviously weren't going to purchase this game until they read:
and felt immediatly compelled to purchase it and had no ability to fight this urge. Thank god you were there. Good Job!
The idea of a public Alpha is contradictory really. If they say public Alpha what they mean is "shitty Beta." MMOs least give you real Betas if nothing more.
Also there is a reason why I quoted the sentence containing "measly." Using advertisement language betrays your intentions. I wasn't trying to protect anyone though. I figure the type of fool who buys an Alpha version can't be reached through mere words on a messageboard. I was lol'ing at your odd attempt to spice up such a thing.
