I guess that makes sense (as to why they're dressed like that), but I still hate it. Feel even less appropriate than the first game.
And I think this game is a prequel that focuses on the first Europan War or something. A true sequel would feel stupid considering how the first game ended.
I was hoping that when/if they made a sequel it would show some of the action from the other countries perspective or be about the first Europan war.
How is the sequel NOT on PS3? No thanks, I like my Valkyria on the big screen.
The article says it takes place 2 years later, and with all of the "school and battlefield" things... I'm guessing that is why they are dressed that way. I don't have any hopes that this will live up to the first, but I hope they keep the battle system intact so that it will at least be enjoyable at times.
Not necessarily for that reason, but I thought not saving during missions added a lot to the tension, making the game so much more enjoyable/realistic. Saving during missions is an absolute killer to strategy games.
Tossing that aside, I'm really looking forward to this game, first one was great and I don't really mind it being PSP-only (as of yet), should make for some rather enjoyable rides in fact.
Yeah, I completely agree. I think if a game is going to utilize mid-mission saving like VC it really needs to use the quick save system where reloading deletes the save afterwards, so you can only use it to stop playing and not as a safety net.
I pulled an A rank with all named enemies killed during the latter half of the game too, so nobody need say you're a perfectionist so you had to abuse saving a lot. Once you got into the swing of it you shouldn't have been fucking up unless the game threw some bullshit at you, like the end of the fight against the Batomys. I came ridiculously close to having to redo that fight 'cause I almost lost a character.
Don't get you're hopes up, it's on PSP for a reason.
As if this were not bad enough, the game switches pace from stirring martial drama to hackneyed school RPG. The graphical style also looks to have taken on a more shoujo-esque tone than the original, perhaps indicating this title is looking to target the female demographic.
The story itself takes place a few years after the original, with the academy students forced to tackle a rebellion in the south of Gallia.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 is set for a winter release. The site is at valkyria2.jp, with the major update due in a few days.
How a PSP school spin off justifies being called a full sequel to what still ranks as one of the most original titles on the PS3 is thus explained: “It’s for a handheld but we don’t want users to think the quality will be reduced.”
Possibly they would have done better to stick to calling it a gaiden rather than inciting fans expecting a full PS3 blockbuster, as already a negative reaction is evident… It may just be the case that a full sequel was canceled or delayed however.
It's on a fucking handheld of extremely weak hardware compared to the original platform, of course the quality will be reduced.“It’s for a handheld but we don’t want users to think the quality will be reduced.”
What deceiving business practice. Would be as-if SquareEnix named FF:Crystal Chronicles (GCN) FFXII instead just to try and make it sell better by proclaiming it part of the main series, even when it obviously isn't.
(although in FF:CC's case the quality was top-notch, just the gameplay wasn't......and the GBA requirement >.> )
^how the fuck do you define quality? I mean if by quality you mean graphics then yes the quality will be reduced, otherwise I see minimal reasons it would suffer in quality
also to everyone bitching about a sequel on the PSP
Peace Walker says hi
Peace Walker is also hurt from being on a portable.
Everything about and within videogames are built on hardware. Not just graphics, music, and other aesthetics, but the entirety of its mechanics. This is simple shit.
Portable Ops was a definitely drop in quality gameplaywise than the console ones. Valkyria Chronicles will do the same. That's not to say it's going to be a bad game, it's just a bad turn for the series.
Agreed, though I can say that cause I'm still a bit disappointed with the change in settings.
none of this would be an issue if you could play PSP games on PS3 without a PSP present (honestly confused why that isn't possible)
except it's new games for PSP? hows that make any sense. Fact is if you could play PSP games on a PS3 they would have a broader market to sell PSP games to, and people who want to play it on the go as a portable game still will.
