    Bride's bouquet brings down plane

BBC NEWS | Europe | Bride's bouquet brings down plane

The traditional throwing of a bride's bouquet for luck ended in disaster at an Italian wedding when the flowers caused a plane to crash.

The bride and groom had hired a microlight plane to fly past and throw the bouquet to a line of women guests, Corriere della Sera reported.

However, the flowers were sucked into the plane's engine causing it to catch fire and explode.

The aircraft plunged into a hostel. One passenger on the plane was badly hurt.

But about 50 people who had been in the hostel escaped unscathed, as did the pilot.

    Entangled

The incident happened at Montioni park in Suvereto, near Livorno, where the wedding reception was being held, Corriere della Sera said.

A passenger on the microlight, named as Isidoro Pensieri, 44, had the job of throwing the bouquet as pilot Luciano Nannelli flew past.

It is believed the bunch of flowers became entangled as it was thrown, and was sucked into the engine.

Mr Pensieri suffered multiple fractures and a head injury. He was taken to hospital in Grosseto by helicopter and then transferred to another in Pisa, Italian media reported.

I don't get how this can happen unless she deliberately aims for the propellers.

Natural selection and Mizangoism were kind on this one. I just don't see really how flowers got stuck in the engine. How inaccurate can you be at aiming off that flying death sentence err I mean plane. You move one centimeter and you are out of the plane. So really, how do you get flowers stuck in the engine? I sense marriage fraud...

I don't think you can read.

The second line of the article states that the person IN the microlight was throwing the bouquet, NOT the wife.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but this is the second or third thread that you've made recently where you didn't even read your own post.

Before I opened the thread, I thought this was about some super strong bride throwing the bouquet so far up behind her that it got sucked into a commercial passenger jet's engines at max altitude.

Then I read the article, and was set straight. However, once I read that it exploded, I envisioned a big Hollywood fireball in midair, bits and pieces raining down, with what little burning wreckage that was left falling through the roof of the building.

Then they said the pilot was unscathed. So I imagined him walking from the smouldering, freshly exploded wreckage in a pressed and clean suit, adjusting his pristine sunglasses as the plane explodes once more for good measure behind him.

The wording in the article seems to give an inaccurate picture, I think. Either that, or I just assume too much.

I don't know how you can avoid the rear-prop on that thing. Didn't realize you could legally toss anything off of one of those.

    Thread title is misleading.
