Places to eat in Austin Texas!

about a year ago on a trip to austin with my girlfriend, we wondered around and found a place called Hut's ( site: www.hutsfrankandangies.com )
we both agreed that it was the best burger we had.

to anyone visiting or living in austin , i recommend this place if you like burgers

Let's see.. best places to eat... here are a few just to give ya some variety~

A few really good places downtown that I'd recommend are the Athenian Grill on 6th and Colorado, Moonshine on Red River, and La Habana on either 6th or Congress. Athenian Grill is a Greek restaurant which never has a wait and great service, Moonshine is a southern comfort style steakhouse, and La Habana is a Cuban restaurant with great empanadas. Plates at all three typically run about $10-$15 (La Habana closer to $10, Moonshine and Athenian grill probably closer to the $15 range). Moonshine also has an amazing breakfast buffet on Sundays, although I've never been able to understand why some weekends have over an hour wait time while others don't...

If you're in the mood for barbecue and are fine with driving up to Round Rock (or south to Driftwood), the Salt Lick restaurants have easily the best barbecue I've ever had. The north one actually has alcohol available, but the south one is BYOB so you can bring and drink as much as you want.

For breakfast, Juan in a Million on Cesar Chavez is a staple for my friends and I on weekends. If you go, order a Juan and three extras and enjoy.

I know a lot of people love Kyoto and the Longhorn, but personally I think their service is terrible and prefer Silhouette on 7th and Congress. We started going there a few years ago on Thursdays since it's college night and a bunch of the sushi is half priced. They might ask if you're actually a college student, but they don't ask for ID to prove it. Also it's never too crowded which is always a plus.

As has been mentioned, Huts has amazing burgers, especially their buffalo burgers. Sandy's off Barton Springs is also really good, and everything is really cheap on Saturdays.

If you're in the mood for Asian, Thai Passion on 7th or 888 on Oltorf are really good options. Both have really generous proportions and aren't expensive for how much food you get.

Tons of great places mentioned already, so I'll add a couple more of my favorites. I'll admit my choices are not going to be ranked anywhere as great food, but these are fun places to go with friends and the food is pretty good also.

1. Mother Egans Pub. Down home irish basics, lots of good drafts, and darts.

2. Conans Pizza. An old time pizza parlor that's been there forever. Comics on the walls and tables, arcade games to play, and some pretty good pizza for Texas (I was born and raised in Chicago, so hard to impress me lol).

3. Stubbs BBQ. I'll admit this place is now far too commercialized, but I use to go there in the early 90s and it was a great place to have some grub, drink a Shiner, and listen to local bands play.

4. Ararats. Unfortunately, I don't think Kelly has found a new location to open yet, but when she does, Ararats will again be a fun place to go. Middle eastern food, belly dancers, bring your own wine, and spend 2+ hours enjoying dinner with friends.

5. Fados. Another Irish pub I've frequented. I'm not a huge fan of this place on week-end nights, far too many Austin yuppies and college girls looking for rich men. But afternoons/early evenings are a joy. Almost the entire staff is from Ireland and they are all as friendly as can be. I've enjoyed many a late sunday brunch there, having a pint and watching a football match, only downside being there are far too many Man U fans there.

if u want some absolutely amazing Japanese food i would recommend Uchi. Kinda expensive but totally worth it, Tyson Cole is amazing. If you go get the Bacon Steakie.
