Why all the stigma about Allakhazam? I mean, how's it any worse than BlueGartr?
Why all the stigma about Allakhazam? I mean, how's it any worse than BlueGartr?
Some of the strangest/worst ideas ever have come from there. In years past it felt like most of the people who did not understand the game were the people that frequented those forums and it was much like Brady Games part II. I think recently (maybe with the addition of the wiki system and collapse of somepage as a reliable resource) posting quality has gotten better at Alla, but there's also their rating system to contend with (something about cliques and rate downs). Some good stuff comes from Alla but mostly BG has it first and better :3
I would have loved to have seen this thread posted in the old Advanced Forum lol.
This isn't really an FF question more suited for general for future reference me thinks?
Also Alla isn't bad it's just a newb haven where people allow all maths to function then argue that 3+5 = 982. Here mod's don't really tolerate retards which allows the people who know what they're doing to actually synergize and get shit done.
Yeah...for better or for worse Allak is more lenient on letting all kinds of shit fly in terms of theories, while shit is more likely to get shut down by the community here if something seems bunk(like I said this isn't always correct, but usually is). The rating system makes it hard to call bullshit on people if they have lots of stupid friends, and personally the actual look of the board kinda hurts my eyes and head to read, but that's just my opinion.
It's not that it's all bad, it's that a lot of the most famous in the 'stupidest shit ever said regarding FFXI' category originated there.
ki > all
The job forums are a complete mess. They're littered with the same stupid questions 3-4 times a day. Some of them are survivable, but in quite a few of them the biggest retards are the most popular, and everyone listens blindly to them and their dumb theories. The RDM forums are the worst example, being basically spammed by rdmdontdie's theories on how RDM should be played.
The endgame forum is a joke. It was originally about merit parties and rank-up missions, now it only gets about 2 posts a day because most people just go to BG for endgame info so it's mostly already here.
The server forums could basically be replaced by PMs. It's pretty much whitegate /shout style convos.
The FFXI Feedback section is a big public display of masturbation. Even if SE read it, I doubt they will ever respond to or fix any of the things posted there, and most of the ideas are a joke anyway.
And of course the rating system. Sometimes it works and retardedness gets sub-defaulted, but usually the best info gets defaulted/sub-defaulted within seconds because helpful, straight-forward posters with realistic info are hated. Posts saying stuff like ANY MIX OF JOBS CAN DO ANYTHING IN THIS GAME IF YOU TRY ^_________^ get an excellent rating in under 10 minutes, despite the fact that everyone knows it's wrong.
It's really a problem of community. A lot of alla posters say they hate BGs elitism with their mouths while reading BG info and strategy with their eyes. They hate DAT-mining, but fap over the stats of the new items when they're posted anyway. They know they can do the ACP final fight with any setup if they try, but still ask what the best setup and strategy is just in case. They hate info that comes from BG on principle, but if it's copy and pasted into a post on alla then it is a-ok, even if the alla thread links to the BG thread it's referring to.
lol great post, u r sooo rite, rate up lolI would have loved to have seen this thread posted in the old Advanced Forum lol.
If you're confused about where the stigma comes from look no further than :http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/40756-alla-pics.html
Not to say there's nothing of value there, for example, their equipment guides tend to be better than otherwiki's.
Exactly.
Maybe it is because the people that TP in str rings dont like the "elitism" of BG, and choose to lurk alla, but the "end game" section has been laughable ever since its creation. The job forums were obsoleted by wiki, and the server forums are dead aside from occasional drama posts or shout outs.
Alla is just a place of contrasts; it has what people have been describing here but it also has a lot of knowledgable experts from what I've read. Pioneers have originated from Alla, whether great or small.
I only just recently started posting there but it's not so bad as long as you go in with an open mind. BG is the "serious" ffxi forum and Alla is more of a "community" forum and as such you're going to have a much larger range.
I don't really think there's that much wrong with Alla although some of the more stupid threads do make me laugh. The rateup/ratedown thing is hilarious when people actually care about it too.
I would disagree with this. Wiki's forums are largely just people asking help and although you get that on Alla too, you also have people testing things such as Y/G/K's pdif bonus back then and lately there has been Evisceration +crit testing in the Thief forums for instance.
I haven't really seen much of that on wiki personally.
Quite a few well-respected posters like VZX, Archain, and even Rukenshin are long-time alla veterans.
Most of the anti-alla sentiment is useless. The signal-to-noise ratio in the job forums was certainly no worse than in old BG Advanced (unless you consider e-peen drama to be "signal").
What everyone else says.
There are forums that don't display post count and other forums that force anonymous posting to stop clique circle jerking and users prematurely judging posts based on either of these things. Zam posts have post counts, usernames, ratings, ranks, and priveleges for paying or highly rated accounts like immunity from word filters.
Ranking is whored to the exclusion of saying anything useful or even vaguely controversial. Mathematic analysis is only so popular there because you can post 10 lines of completely incorrect bullshit, and the conclusion at the end (which is the only thing anyone will end up reading) will be taken as proven beyond any doubt because no one can be bothered to criticize an experiment or check arithmetic. And then of course, the precious rate ups from your fellow half-wits.
It is a far more difficult forum than BG to show up and say, "wait a minute guys, I think this or that theory is incorrect and should be re-examined", but definitely a great place to get forumite credit for spamming puerile posts and compulsively agreeing with whatever resident forum god shithead with a high rating happens to be around.
My biggest problem with alla is that you don't have to post useful shit to get rated up.
Pretend to be drunk, say woosh alot, and agree with any post that someone pretends to be drunk in and you'll be rated up to excellent in minutes.
Then you can run around posting why DEX and STR rings are better than Snipers for tping, only Faith Torque is worth tping in because it's the only torque to boost base damge, and anyone that can afford an item over 1mil is an rmt.
Just put "LOL I€VE BEAN DRINKEN LLLLLLLLULZ" somewhere in the post and everyone will think you're cool and rate you up.
Then the newbs read it and monkey see, monkey do.
i'm a sage on alla
good enough?
Even people on alla don't like the idiots. Of course, the problem is that those retards have scholar and can rate the people who actually know what they're doing down. I can count on one hand the number of people I actually trust to make a good post on alla regarding endgame/solo/etc content.
Alla was (pretty sure it still is) nothing but a cesspool of sock accounts, rate downs & flame wars.
I am banned from allakhazam, but not from BG or KI. How?
