Well, certain stuff aren't originally from BG. It is just that it is such a popular forum that everytime ppl find something good in Alla or KI they will post a copy of the information here. So BG never miss a bit. But saying that the best discussions are always from BG is not true. It might be the most correct in a way that alot of the discussions that are concluded in other forums are eventually posted here, but BG is rarely a place where the original idea started.

BG is the best place for the most accurate information, and the readers here bath in such accurate information that they are used to the end results being fed to them. So the readers here develop knowledge of the game and therefore can most of the time answer their own questions, which eliminated alot of the repeated stuff. BG has never been a place where info are easy to find, it is just that most of the hardcore gamers read BG and remember stuff they read. If you are new to this game, you wouldn't know where to start by reading BG. As oppose to forums like Alla or KI, you start your job as thf and you go to thf forum and you find stickies to read etc (outdated or not, at least you have a place to start).

So yes, BG is for experienced players, and alla and KI are mostly for newer and less dedicated players. The newer and less dedicated players got to go somewhere to ask questions, and if alla and KI don't exist, where do you think they will go to? and you don't want that do you?

So instead of bitching about other forums, I think we should appreciate them a bit more. And if you are real hardcore about this game, you would check all forums everyday anyway (like myself, I check drk, pld, drg forums on KI and alla everyday to find interesting stuff). Once a while you find gold and you join the discussion and surprising result happens, and next thing you do is posting on BG about the finding. So why not?

Alla generally had a 'diamond in the rough' quality to it for me. I would occasionally find some rare but awesome pieces of information, but the level of bullshit I had to go through to find it, or contribute to it was insane. They had some of the best shield block testing I ever saw, but noone there was willing to build on it. Just a few rate ups for the guys time. Since then, it has been expanded to death here on BG, and I'm sure that someone took it and posted it on OtherWiki by now.

Alla just seems now like the 'special' child that mother SE decides needs some feigned loving attention from time to time. Maybe Elmer can help whip them into shape, but I'm not counting on any miracles.

    Rate Right, Baby!

A job specific forum on BG would really be fun and useful. I am not sure why it hasn't been done honestly. Each job forum would have a what's better thread etc and stickie that link to all the good information. As it is right now, there is no way to build a solid foundation. You almost have to read everything everday to stay current.

Because the Randomer Question / What's Better thread lets people repeatedly ask the questions that they'd make individual threads for in a sprawling, two-posts-a-day, every-job-has-it's-own-forum mess.

Seriously man, I listened to Alla advice once. It was back in 2004 when I was doing my Pld AF body fight in Davoi? Alla fucking said it could be trioed easily by anyone 40-50 because the combined leveled were much higher than theirs... so me and 2 of the people in my sig went and got fucking cornholed by the Orc, prison style. Fuck you Alla.

Never again have I bothered getting info from Alla.

    or that

Edit: the point is that things will be organized and can be found easilier for later use. If I am a thf and I have a question, I do a search in thf forum or in thf's what's better thread instead of doing a search in the standard forum and get 2500 of non related posts.

I hate to say this, but I imagine there are more than a few people here who would prefer that information be kind of hard to find. It perpetuates their own eliteness. If everyone played flawlessly, what would we make fun of on BG?

BG is the endgame website for ffxi, the best information is here, or is linked to from here, it has been tested, and it has been proven. "Snowflakes" are not wanted in endgame.

"Snowflakes" are the people who aggro in dynamis, aggro everything in sky and sea, need to be raised and escorted to the NM sites and all the while complain that everyone else is mean because they wont hold their hand through every event in ffxi both big and small.

everyone on BG was a noob at some point and didnt know how to find there way around sky/sea/dynamis/toau/whatever, but the difference is we all learned how eventually, we all learned through trial and error (and other people's mathematically sound information) and took good advice (and still do)

i cant stand alla, its a cesspool of retardation and bad grammar, and the site layout is horrible, i have bad vision already, if i read through all the crap to find the gold i would go blind

the thing is there is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things, elitism isnt a bad thing, its easily obtainable by anyone with a decent IQ and a willingness to learn, i hate people who refuse to learn or to question their own decisions which is what you find on alla

and in regards to the thief forum on alla... if its seriously the best place to find information on thief, then that would explain why 99% of thief's are only useful as TH whores
    There's more, but I won't bother.

The main problem with Alla is that their main posters often don't take advice, play selfishly, and lack critical thinking. If you are not willing to utilize or accept information on a forum, then why are you even posting? You pay to play FFXI, but so does everyone else. Why should your concerns about wearing Opaline in XP PTs be more important than the other five individual's concern about XP/hr? You can conduct all the experiments you want (As in the THF EVAs v EVAs Skill thread), but if you cannot thinking critically about *when* to use certain gear, it doesn't matter how accurate your tests are (Especially applicable to EVAs geared THFs in merit PTs).

Absolutely Virtue's post is quite misleading. It suggests that the majority of BG goes out of it's way to hurt Alla posters. If your post was in response to the posts here, then you need to look at the OP's question. If not, then you need to consider the fact that Alla players typically invoke a certain action that starts the flames. The difference (Using your "School") example isn't between the jocks and art students. It's between community league sports and varsity. Just as how they play how they want because it's their money, we play how we want because it is our money. If you're not going to play in a specific manner when the situation calls for it, then get the hell out of my group and go back to your group. I don't care about how good they are until it affects my enjoyment of the game. Much like how they don't care if you're an elitist when you're helping them with Genkai or some AF quest they didn't bother to look up before shouting. In short, I don't care if you're a noob or not, and I won't go out of my way to publicly humiliate you, but don't expect to be apart of my team when it's time to be serious.

    Yugl reserves the public humiliation to just the people he likes >.>;

And i know my grammar isn't award winning, but i try to proofread before i hit submit. We all make mistakes, but willingness to fix those mistakes is what makes some people better then others.

P.S. I'm pretty sure i had allot of run on sentences etc in that post too...

True but im a thief hating thief, and i don't take back by comment about 99% of thief's being only useful as TH whores >.>

And for forgetting periods... 4 years of ffxi = almost all my sentances end in either lol or an emote such as: ^^, ^.^, >^.^<, :D, :3, D:, :<, :/, or X3.

Its hard to type normal in forums for me now lol... but i make an effort. ^^

Oh, that's easy. Even if the information were beautifully laid out and as easy as pie to access, legions of fools would still refuse to read it, or stubbornly persist in believing things they wished were true instead. Anyone else feel like half your LS believes it's your fucking job to read the POL patch notes for them? And these are people who manage to clear T3 Einherjar and la la la, perform their jobs reasonably satisfactorily, and actually put together good parties. Plenty of island below the surface. There will never be a shortage of players to mock.

Edit: changed "release notes" to "POL patch notes"...I can't believe I typo'd something work-related into something FFXI-related. Usually I end up doing shit like "FreeBST" >.>

This is true, and I've noticed it in every HNMLS I have ever been in. But I think it gets to a larger point- even the people who take playing the game seriously don't always approach it with the extreme dedication that some of you do. It is, in the end, a game. People will enjoy it in different ways. If you're lucky, you can fill your LS with people who approach the game the way you do. If you want 25 mathematician forumwhores with perfect SpellCast XML and every strat memorized, get them. But there is equal room for an LS that role plays and does Pankration (even if they are zomgfaggots!).

The point I was trying to make is that people get way too bent out of shape about the different playerbases (and their preferred forums). In the end, who fucking cares?

If you're (not Bakthi, just the general "you") the kind of dickhead who gets angry at people for not being perfect, you're an eleventy billion times bigger dickhead than the kid who just doesn't give a fuck enough to scour forums and guides to perfect his videogame playing. I mean, you realize that, don't you?

Yeah, people who are not born knowing the ins and outs of FFXI meleeing make my brain hemorrhage too...?

Allakhazam does have its value. The thief forums are hands down the best source for thief information around because of a few key people who put a lot of hard work into discovering and spreading knowledge (Melphina, I'm looking at you). Its only real competition, the KI thief forums, are trolled mercilessly by Treelo and his wannabes, taking a Neosutran attitude towards people who didn't happen to install the game knowing everything about everything. They intentionally spread false information, and generally pat themselves on the back for being beacons of the community and then marvel why there are so many clueless thieves around KI...

Allakhazam of course lives up to its stereotype as having the most noobs, but I think that's simply because it has the most people. It's also a lot less pretentious. People feel safe from ethugs and ebullies, and there seem to be plenty of smart, mature players who are actually interested in helping people, being helped rather than have a perpetual, virtual pissing contest which has seemed to be the actual focus of sites like KI and BG.

All (most) of the community sites are valuable in their way

Your brand of apathy sounds too emotional and involved. Better to just show openly feigned interest and only deal with the normies when needed.
