Ninja tekko +1 or bust, if only it were acc and attack on that instead . . .
i'm not a nin so this is just off looking at armor
Nin. Tekko +1
Kog. Chainmail +1 or Pln. Khazagand more likely to own this
Thunderer Mantle
Buccaneer's Belt
Behemoth Ring +1 or dragon rings+1
Pln. Crackows
Ninja Hakama
Optical Hat
Peacock Charm
Otori + Archer's Knife for r acc and AGI
Drone Earringx2
thats possible the best you'll really get out of nin in ranged mode
hope that helps you ^^
my current ranged setup for nin is:
head Optical Hat
body War Shinobi Gi (alternatively Koga Chainmail but i havent decided which i like better yet.)
hands Ninja Tekko +1
legs Denali Kecks (when i dont feel like taking my AF out of storage)
feet Nin. Kyahan +1
neck Peacock Charm
back Amemet Mantle +1
waist Buccaneer's Belt
L.ear Drone Earring
R.ear Drone Earring
L.ring Behemoth Ring
R.ring Behemoth Ring
for weapons i just leave on my katanas. going to a trailer's kukri offhand wasnt something i had thought of before.
i'm also wondering if maybe i should replace the Nin. Kyahan +1 (AGI+6) with something that has ranged attack or ranged acc (depending on the mob). i've got Bowman's Ledelsens (racc+4) and i could always get Federation Kyahan (ratt+4) for cheap. Enkidu's Leggings (AGI+3 ratt+4) might be the best of both worlds.
Honestly, I'd just level RNG if you want to do ranged damage.
Is here where i bitch about no throwing weaponskills? No really, is this it? Ok fine. I found shurikens to be useful only when lvling nin, and not at and end game standpoint. Admittedly this was years ago before you could xp on colibri for eternity and you xped on crabs for eternity. When you can first use manjis they are a nice boost of dmg at the start of a fight, but as end game? nah, the dmg isnt worth the gil output. Nin can throw some manjis pretty fast and they are useful for the occasional situation. I did nin/rng shuriken tank on the cop 4-2 ouryu bc, and it worked well.
if you wanna be a ranged attacker, skillup marksmanship to cap, 225, and have access to some cheaper ammo, although you will miss more due to lower skillcap. also, by subbing RNG, you will gain access to Slugshot, and Acc. Bonus II, for an additional +22 ranged accuracy. get yourself an m.kris or kraken club and spam slugs all day long
Well, OP hasn't posted again but I doubt he wanna be a ghetto RNG, more like he's trying to play NIN different so I can see where he is coming from (well, I guess) making a thread like this and asking advice about a shuriken setup.
OP: You have already received a few gear options and most likely you'll decide what suits you best. Like other users said: sadly you don't get shuriken weaponskills and Fuma Shuriken (the best you can throw, not counting of course Nokizaru or Koga) only stacks up to 12 so you're pretty much stuck with Manji.
Don't let this discourage you, if you wanna give it a try just for shit & giggles, by all means do so, in the end this is just a game, might as well try to have some fun huh?
I wasnt really trying to necro this thread, but I thought I would search for a thread instead of making a new one. Anyways, I have been playing with the idea of NIN range set up, and a lot of these posts covered what I was looking for. However, I was thinking about some new additions to the game such as Add-On armor. with the body and head, you could get Snapshot+ 3% STR+4 on the head and RACC+10 and snapshot+5% on body which, to me, seems like it would greatly increase the dps of a Throwing NIN...and also, Innin, anyone know if this stacks with ranged attacks? I understand that crits give less dmg on ranged attacks, but It seems like it could be useful as well...I guess basically what I am getting it is that if one was inclined to do a shit ton of dmg NIN/RNG with Barrage and Sange and proper gear would be a good way to go. Shit, or even NIN/WAR with zerk and Sange
Is it really just the cost of shuriken that prevents this from being more popular? Or am I missing something else? Obviously, the lack of WS may be a factor, but you can just macro swap to a Blade: Jin set or whatever and keep the dmg numbers high.
I am not very familiar with large end game settings and whats needed to win, but this was just something I was thinking about for shits and giggles, and maybe good enmity generation for tanking. Also because the game gets boring after awhile doing the same thing over and over and over...
they main deterrent is that the best shurikens are far too pricey to get in bulk. The second tier ones as mentioned above are available in larger quantities but are still very pricey. From everything i've heard about nin/rng is that it's quite fun, but the cost is prohibitive. I imagine the damage is fairly respectable because the base damage is high and the delay is very low.
I was in The Boy Tree doing some throwing skills, and the crit bonus on Innin does appear to stack with ranged attacks from behind. Obviously not ground breaking news, but interesting imo.
SE really should just update the NPC prices of shuriken...silly not to open up a whole new aspect of the game, especially a game that needs some variety
Cost, inventory space, lack of high level shuriken worth using (there is koga but you can only get 3 a day, it would take 33 days to get a stack on your own)
The only reason a Shurikan Weapon Skill would be really useful is in situations that you can't melee and if it was a high damage weapon skill such as sidewinder... which comes with a ranged accuracy decrease. Considering no innate RACC bonus's for ninja, a weapon skill of that sort would not likely be too efficient. Couple that with the fact that the "sweet spot" of a shurikan is at the closest possible distance and you're better off using a katana weapon skill. Now obviously, you're actually better off not throwing shurikans at all since any time you do, you're giving up damage potential. The delay is not realistic considering the downtime between throws and/or katana swings. Even if there was a nice throwing weapon skill, throwing shurikans would be less damage than swinging your katanas.
I've found 1 or 2 uses ever for using Shurikans.. One is being stuck Ninja at Kirin after being in a Kiting party about 4 years ago prior to zerg strats. I would move into the ranger party, get prelude and minuet and half assed ranger damage with crappy WS's.
If after all of the negatives you still want to give this a shot then you should definitely at least try to incorporate a hybrid Katana/Shurikan Setup.. ie.
Senji / Perdu
Shurikan
O. Hat
Pcc Charm
Suppa / Brutal
Koga Chainmail
Nin Tekko +1
Rajas + Sniper
Jaeger or Amemet
Swift of Buccaneer
Haidate
Usukane Sune Ate or AF1+1
Macro all racc if you want for the tosses, and haste for swings, etc.. but you will lose damage in 90% of scenarios opposed to a fulltime melee / haste ninja..
I used to love ninja to bits (and still do, really) but I can't imagine any situation today where a shuriken set-up would be a good idea where I couldn't either use San nukes, melee, or be able to change to another job. I skilled up throwing 'cos it was there to be skilled, but the only time it ever gets used is if I'm nin/drk on sky gods, throwing a wind at the start of a fight.
If Koga Shurikens dropped by the stack instead of by the single and could be AH'd, that might make things better in a minuscule way.
I know I'd take the time out to spam a lot more Ashu Talifs if it meant a useful supply of good shurikens for special occasions.
i think shuriken should drop from high level nin mobs in multiples instead of singles, with a high chance. they toss those things like peanuts.
and maybe easing up on the recipe, you cant tell me a sheet of darksteel that can make a bed is the same material that can only make 99 shuriken if you're lucky.
but im putting logic into crafting and inventory.
My Throwing is only at about 240 and just with Tekko+1 I rarely miss god winds...
Usually hit anything with my Ungur.
Sange is a waist of merit, time, money. 15min recast makes it really pointless...
...I've thrown about 5 on the enmity stars >< couple actually landed, and they didn't really do any significant damage.
