Book Recommendations

I have a 22 hour flight coming up in a couple months and I need some book recommendations. I like sci-fi adventure stuff, I loved the Ender's Game series, Dune, and most recently enjoyed Seeker by Jack McDevitt. Anyone have some recommendations?

Also, you didn't list this as one of your genres, but Historical fiction? For Brit Lit in high school I read a book that I felt was way above HS level called "When Christ and His Saints Slept" by Sharon Kay Penman. It was very good, and no, not about religion.

Not really into historical fiction though I did enjoy reading the DaVinci code (is that even historical fiction? I unno). I'm more into futuristic fantasy/adventure, though some modern sci-fi like Shadow of the Hedgemon does appeal to me.

I thought Amazon.com: Genesis: Bernard Beckett: Books was a pretty interesting book. It's a quick read (160 pages) but worth it imo.

I think I'm the only one here who hated the Ender series and just about anything Card has done. Well maybe hate is a bit too strong. The hype surrounding the Ender series made the book come up woefully short in my eyes. I was not impressed with it at all.

Battle Royale is a great one. As is World War Z. I didn't want to post too many because I could literally fill up the page with books. My mother is a librarian and I've grown up with a book seemingly less than three feet away from me at all times lol.

Yeah, very true. I basically got into it when my ex was reading it and I just picked it up and couldn't put it down. If you listened to all the hype I could see the many problems you could have with it, Card's writing is pretty simplistic and the love plot that develops in the Bean books is atrocious. Still though, if you take the series for what it is I think it's pretty solid.

I will definitely say that it's an extraordinary premise for a book series. But to me the writing didn't match the ambition of the scope of the plot, if that makes sense. Most likely I would have been more receptive to the series had they not been so hyped before I picked one up.

Sci-fi wise I would suggest the Nights Dawn Trilogy although each book is like 900+ pages.

Ursula K. Le Guin - The Dispossessed, or The Left Hand of Darkness. Both quick reads but very interesting, she has a couple others that are very good (anything Earthsea) but those 2 are my favorite.

While admittedly not quite in the given genres;

Choke, Survivor, Invisible Monsters, Rant, Haunted

Seconding the shit out of these. It's a little tough to wrap your head around some of the lines of logic that Palahniuk uses, but if you can, they're all phenomenal reads. The pacing, language usage, and general tone and feel of his novels is something you won't find out of a lot of other books.

The Kid Stays In The Picture by Robert Evans - one of the most entertaining books ive ever read.

Cell by Stephen King - best King book imo

Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz - psychotic circus clowns with a humorous twist... very entertaining

Stardust by Neil Gaiman - very fun book to read and not overly long.
