Beards and mustaches are used to throw people off. Grow it, live with it for an extended period of time. Kill a person, steal a million. Shave and you're gone. You could be standing infront of a cop and they won't recognize you. Unfortunately the reverse of this situation, doesn't work.

I usually just roll with the half goatee with rocking the chin. Everything else is either clean shaven or mildly stubbly. If I shave completely I look like I'm 18.
