I had absolutely nothing to contribute to the thread so I'm crazy late to the party, but choosy moms choose Jif. Everyone should know that.

What the hell else did you do there besides open your one present? Sounds like her friends/family are complete assholes.
She put out a ton of food and her asshole friends cruised the buffet. She also had a game planned, but we had to go early on. Honestly I hope they had just stashed the rest of the gifts somewhere else and/or more people showed. It was held in a pretty small place though; I'm fairly sure she got little else (maybe something small like baby clothes that were set to the side) or nothing. There were only about 8 people including the hostess, myself, and my husband. She had about 40 RSVP'd via facebook and we rolled in about an hour late, so I couldn't tell you.

I hope this wakes her the fuck up, though. I think she was really relying on this to get her through, or at least I assume that much since she never bothered to get a job and try to get together any money or items for this baby. She hasn't been realistic about any of this and I don't think she entirely grasped before now that her friends are just children, some of them with their own babies, who cannot afford or just do not care to take care of her problems.

For both of my kids the hospital would not let you leave unless the baby was in a car seat, even if you were going to take public transportation. Car seats aren't just for cars, most are now designed to attach to a stroller so you can carry the baby in the car seat and fold the main stroller down for storage. My kids both went through a phase where they would not sleep in a crib or bed, but would doze off in minutes if sitting in their car seat.

We didn't have a shower for our 2nd child, even though he was a different sex from our first. Luckily, my sister had a boy around the same time we had our daughter, so they had alot of hand-me-downs for our son. Many of the infant clothes you use most are unisex anyway, like onesies and sleepers. The one big thing we had to replace was our carseat, as technology on those keeps advancing and older seats aren't safe for more than a few years now. Our new minivan had the LATCH system, so we bought a new infant seat and a toddler seat for our daughter to make use of it.

Don't care to argue on the internets, don't play, I just read the forums for laffs. Yeah, I'm rather random.

Depends on the state. In Pennsylvania its against the law to let a baby leave the hospital unless they are in a car seat (we even had to sign a paper telling us this before they would release her). Its probably more to protect the hospitals from liability lawsuits, but I think its a good law nontheless.

I'm sure there are states that don't require it though.
