    Dual Monitor Colors

So I'm running dual monitors, both are the same model, out of the same graphics card via DVI's.

The colors on the monitors don't match, and I can't get them right. The one monitor is a few months old so I'm assuming it could be something to do with that, but are there any ways to get them to be closer together in colors? I literally opened up Paint and made Horizontal rectangles going from Black to white with red/yellow/green/blue in there and put it between both monitors. No matter what I do I can't get them right.

    Asus VW266H is the model.

Might be a stupid question: are both monitors set up the same?

Not on your system but rather the control menu on the monitor itself where you mess with contrast and all that noise.

ive seen this very often, whats even stranger is when you swap monitors the color sticks with the location, not the monitor it self - at least in my case that is what was happening.
so far i haven't figured it out nor have i been able to spend much time to mess with it.

for those wondering - i had jobs where i installed many monitors for schools and banks etc - at the time i was only paid to hook it up and go , no trouble shooting was involved.

Monitors do have a burn-in time, where the colours will gradually change over time and settle into a general 'final' pallette of colours.

There are programs which will cycle colours on the monitor, but generally leaving the monitor running for a while will allow it to settle a bit better. (don't leave it on a static image however, this could produce image burn, which isn't the desired result! leave the monitor running a good colourful screensaver with movement on the colours to avoid this.)

Then it's just a matter of resetting all colour profiles associated with the monitor (both on the monitor itself, and any profiles saved within the OS or drivers) then calibrating one monitor using a set of test cards (I suggest LCD monitor test images for a comprehensive set of images for perfectly calibrating every aspect of your monitor) and then calibrating the 2nd monitor to match as closely to both the cards and the other monitor.

Unless you paid over $2000usd it's very unlikely that any two monitors are going to have exactly the same colour profiles at default settings. Manufacturing processes for cheaper panels aren't completely accurate and reproduced perfectly on each and every screen made...

Calibrating monitors is a PITA, especially calibrating two completely different types (such as glossy vs. reflective surface monitors etc.) and it's likely they'll never ever be perfect. Hell, I've worked at places where they have £3000 monitors with professional calibration tools and even they don't produce perfectly accurate calibrations every time.

Card is an HD4870X2, monitors are both DVI connected.

Monitors are about 300each after rebates and such.

I think I'm going to chalk it up to one being a few months older than the other, It was on pretty bright settings and such for that time. It's close enough now just annoyed that its not perfect lol.

It could also be differing panel manufacturers; oftentimes the same final monitor product can come from multiple panel mfrs. Dell is guilty of this a LOT, many of their monitors are "lottery" and you can get differing panel types from different manufacturers even when ordering the same item in bulk (which would logically have you thinking they all came from the same stock components).

Almost definitly this, from what you've described. What brand are they?

buying 2 of the same monitors as the same time is your best chance to get ones that look the same.

I bought two of the same monitor at different times awhile ago and the second one ended up being a completely different contrast engine than the first one (darker blacks higher contrast etc) even though the model # was the same.

They are both Asus. I'm very happy with Both monitors really, it's such a shame that they colors aren't "perfect". But they really don't need to be. If I separate them, and use each one individually, then each is probably the best monitor I've ever owned lol. Together it's a slight difference, not major, and the monitors are excellent. If they last a while, then I will continue to buy more of them in the future in all honesty. Think a few other readers have the same model or close to, as they are great quality for the price.

Separate, 10/10, together 9.5/10, it's really not noticeable unless you are looking for it.

Anyone else interested, since they were pretty much spammed and praised in the last "i want to buy an lcd" thread: Newegg.com - ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 20000:1) Built in Speakers w/ component connector - LCD Monitors

Yes, they have HDMI. They are HUGE too. I went from a 22inch and the size difference is enormous.

They're probably some of the better TN panels but after using IPS panels I'd never go back >.>

IPS is really nice, but I've never been able to find anything priced well enough along with size and specs to merit taking the dive. D: I've heard criticisms of them over refresh rates (or whatever the proper LCD term would be) for gaming, but it's also a kick in the pants when some gigantor 30" TN panel goes for so much cheaper. lol

As mentioned earlier color palettes are just going to look different on monitors sometime, but my best guess would be to calibrate one monitor and try exporting the color profile over to the second if possible through your graphics card control panel.

Not sure if it'd be any use to you, but for calibration I use this: Calibrize

This for sure, I just got a H-IPS HP LP2475W a few weeks ago and was also the best computer purchase I've made. This is one of those cases that you tend to get what you pay for.
