Since it seems augmenting shit around @ FoV can give usually +10 and more resist on 1~3 elements (or even magic evasion), could build en even more powerful IronRam based set.
For example, on the set posted by Furoris, looks like everything is augmentable (barring waterbelt) so could potentially lead to a magic resist set with 200ish elemental resist AND max MdB lol ?
You can also increase MDB by using a COR in the tank party...by a huge amount with a lucky roll.
Actually, I never bothered to think about this.
But how does, lets say, +1 Fire Element compare to +1 MDB? I know +1 MDB is roughly equal to -1% magic damage taken, but not sure how much an actual element increase reduces.
For example, out of that guys +182 Fire, vs Neo's 35MDB 10MDT (total of -45%ish dmg taken) (lets take away Aegis, subs, spells, etc, just go off of gear, and use IR Lance), which would be better?
This was brought up earllier in the thread, but not quite answered.
Elemental resist doesn't directly reduce damage but increases your chances of getting resists cutting the damage taken by 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16. Elemental resist is very strong if you can get it to the point of regularly getting 1/16 resists but idk how much you'd need to reach that on JoL. If the 182 resist set is enough to cap out or come close to capping out resists then yes it will beat out the MDB set, but only for JoL's fire nukes. MDB gets an obvious advantage on JoL since it's not bogged down by only being effective for a given element.
Resist builds for other elements (practicality may vary):

Ice (156 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Air (149 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Water (188 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Earth (179 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Light (171 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Dark (197 resist): FFXIGEAR.com
Meeeeeeeeeeh, gdpld already killing my inv. roooar.
Thinking ill have to go the cheap/inv saving route:
IR Set + Lance, Unfettered, Lamian Kaman, Resolute Belt, Lamia Mantle for MDB. Then using Jewled Collar, and 2 earrings for that element. Thats about -46% Magic Damage, and +50 in Element. Obviously far from the 150+, but passable for a farm from PLD main?
Speaking of which, are MDB and -Magic damage calculated together, or seperatly? IE: Using a Merman's vs Volunteer's.
MDB and MDT are two separate calculations. MAB is divided by MDB and multiplied against spell damage. After that MDT is taken into account. MDT caps at -50% and Shell counts towards this cap. MDB has no known cap. Calculating Magic Damage - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more explains things very well.
The funny part about this thread is there's probably a few aegis Plds out there that are finally realizing that there's a decent drop off Gulool Ja Ja. Hell will probably have frozen over the day that HNM isn't sitting up though. It's actually a pretty fun fight though TBH.
