I wrote that guide ages ago, constructive criticism would be nice on a side note =P I've had to revise it a few times over the months with all of the patches etc.

I mean, the whole point of zerging is to ZERG, not to use crap, then you're better of meleeing with Scythe.

KJ really outperforms RR in party situations? This would be somewhat surprising, as getting high enough dex is less of an issue.

A post in the randomer question thread made me wonder about the following:

Vidohunir: plutos staff or kirin's pole?

It's likely the parse was not counting mnk counters. However, removing the damage from the sam gets closer to the point.

I don't think you got my point. It does not matter if 864 looks normal. I am comparing the 864 to the 90 and that is where the 864 does not look correct.

My analysis is comparing the asuran average damage to the melee average damage (see the parse.) Nor, am I comparing total asuran damage to total melee damage which relates to many other factors as well.

There is a direct correlation between asuran and melee because asuran is literally 8 x normal melee attacks with the easily calculable adjustments for vitality attribute, gorget and boost. This is a direct relationship and a ratio of 9.62 is too low. Normal ratios are in the 10.5-11 range. (Before someone asks, this does in fact include the fact that sometimes a mnk will use his asuran and not get off all the swings because the mob dies during the WS. Also, before someone else asks, yes I am assuming these are all asuran, since if they were not, it leads to the same result.)

We can speculate why the ratio is low, but it's not low due to game mechanics.

According to the write-up link from the other thread, they were not using mad on lurkers.

I think you have to look at the melee acc% again. I am talking about 4 skill points and no one in the parse was capped; they were not at 93%, they were at 87-88%. I don't know how many puks they would have killed. We could debate the benefit of 4 attack and 3 or 4 accuracy, but it's certainly not zero and between 0% and 3%, its likely to be much closer to 3%.

Agreed, a lot of experienced and knowledgeable warriors from all servers differ when it comes down to which ws does better (average higher) when in a typical party setup where you can achieve the %crit. cap for RR, since in those times with food, buffs and berserk, KJ is really powerful as well. Personally, my parses as Elvaan have shown so far an average between 30 to 80 higher for KJ than for RR on birds. Maybe as someone pointed out the race which is usually said to not really matter, is making a impact noticiable enough on WS averages to have some players swear RR outdoes KJ when DEX is high enough no matter what buffs you have, and some others that promise they get better results doing KJ when even with high enough DEX to make RR shine, they prefer the potential of KJ due to berserk, att food, chaos roll and, less often than not, minuets.

Vidohunir is like a dark-based nuke basically, but slightly more like a BLU nuke in that the target-invariant term is dependent on your stats (in this case, INT). So like, to compare to thunder 4. Thunder 4 is 2*dINT + 541, where dINT is the difference between your INT and target's INT. That "+ 541" part is fixed based on the spell, regardless of your other stats. Vidohunir is 2*dINT + [1.75 * (77 + [.83 * [0.3 * INT]])]. So if you're rolling with 100 INT it's "2*dINT + 176", if you have 130 INT it's "2*dINT + 190", etc. regardless of what you're fighting.

Because of this, for the WS damage itself, +8 INT can't beat the 15% damage increase from Pluto's unless the base damage is super low (106 or lower) which for this WS would mean you'd need to be fighting something with much higher INT than you (and that's even assuming there isn't a lower-cap on the dINT component). Now that's just for the WS. If you're asking because you're farming or something for whatever reason maybe the fact that Kirin Pole is a stronger staff would make it better for you, I don't know.

So in essence, on anything that I shouldn't be hitting with a staff anyways, kirins pole (maybe), but anything else, plutos kinda thing? It makes sense. I was mostly just curious, about the only time i ever use it is killing chigoes in bhaflau remnants lol.

I honestly don't know what's best for general BLM staff melee lol I guess Mekki Shakki, or Kirin's pole if you don't have one. But if you just care about epeen Vidohunir, like you brought an icarus wing to HNM or you are just screwing around and building TP for a WS, use Pluto's.

In his post in that thread, Kell says that he doesn't know where the counter damage is shown, but he's pretty sure it's in included. You'll just have to take his word for it. I think it's a little sketchy too, but I can't think of a reason that his parse wouldn't pick it up. As for that extra SAM damage, I have no idea.

Possibly due to low HP WSs, or WSs accidentally used during flash/wind wall. Maybe the average swing damage is higher than you're used to due to fSTR combination of elvaan + STR content of full usu? Just throwing things out there; you can check his AF gearset on FFXIAH.

Honestly, I think ~88% was just the "cap" for that party, which is why I think that argument is pretty moot. Kell and I usually parse anywhere from 90-93% there, and the fact that my accuracy doesn't change when going from Hedgehog Pie to Coeurl Subs tells me I'm just about capped. Kell was even eating pizza (SAM w/ full GKT merits) and still had that low accuracy. Gonna blame numerous obfuscates, wind walls, and warm-up lurkers for that one. Maybe it was lightsday and dia was causing a lot of preemptive obfuscates from puks.

MNK/WAR certainly keeps up, I'd never say it didn't, but it doesn't outdamage, at least from my limited experience. You can argue a number of ways that his performance wasn't stellar, but I can think of just as many ways of improving my own. Mainly if I voked and took away his counter damage, added my own retaliation damage, plus more WS frequency with retaliation TP, I could probably stretch that lead to 6% or more. I say this because I've pulled ahead of Kell by ~6% in a more recent parse utilizing this technique.

Parses certainly aren't the best way of evaluating potential, but they're a good way to start. You're gonna have to take my word on a lot of this stuff, but I'm just sharing personal experience to help answer the OP.

Old topic of course and much has been said and repeated. I think if you play a bit and get varied experiences on the subject, you can get an idea of how the comparison in question plays out. While I don’t know how reliable Directparse is, if you’re that interested I can provide the actual parse file/data with the raw chat log.

And while doing calculations on paper certainly has it uses, the fact still remains that it is on paper and its value is thus limited, considering that what is observed in practice still remains the primary objective that you’re interested in?(or at least ought to be I think)

Oh and Peace… I find meriting to “win a parse” has about as much value as the retarded kid winning the Special Olympics (I think that’s how the old internet cliché goes? Though you were probably just trying to communicate the "Aggressiveness" of the players eh?) I think the information provided by an “accurate” parse is much more interesting.

Looking at which dagger I should use while /sam

    Ogre Jambiya with dmg+4 stp+4 da+1

or azoth? I have airy buckler for offhand making /sam > /nin

On the other hand I could now use both daggers /nin possibly surpassing airy buckler offhand.

Do you have a Rajas Ring? Perdu.

    If not, Death+1 or Tred.

You can also 6hit w/o Rajas with Carbonara/Aurum Cuirass etc etc ...

Don't but considering switching to it (since Tamas is replaceable).

Maybe my math's wrong, but doesn't
    Death Scythe +1 (14/hit)
    /SAM, Brutal, Rajas (+21, 16.94/hit)
create a 6-hit, whereas Perdu falls like 2 TP short?

    Have Adaberk/8 Great Axe merits/Cuchulains/Rajas/7 Acc Ring/blahblahblah

Friend got into a debate with me (A friend who isn't stupid) about Perdu being better because of the 5 accuracy. But I don't really need accuracy at this point.

    Opinions?

With INT+ Igqira Weskits popping up, I am wondering how much INT would make it better than Oracle's Robe?

    Oracle's Robe
    DEF: 41 HP +20 MP +20
    "Magic Attack Bonus" +6
    Magic Accuracy +6
    MP recovered while healing +6

    versus...

    Igqira Weskit
DEF: 35 Elemental magic skill +5
    "Magic Atk. Bonus" +6
    "Conserve MP" +2
Physical damage: "Curse" effect on opponent
    Augmented INT+???

My opinion is that I hate you. I've been spamming GAs to get something like that. Grauberg I assume?

With your merits/gear, the solution is that GA for merits most likely, and maybe Perdu for HNM if needed.
