Math on this was done here.
Edit: Note that he says it's better when DA won't increase your WS DMG by greater than 60% (Which it won't for Drakesbane, but it will for Wheeling).

A DA proc probably won't up your wheeling thrust by 60% either. Consider it is going to be 1.0 ftp, and without the acc bonus of the first hit on a WS that you would normally stack on STR and disregard ACC. DA on single hit ws IMO is just a bad thing to stack as you don't get close to what you should get.
Just to illustrate in an easier to understand form. Assuming max merit on Jump and High Jump. Everything equal other than grip.
In 820 sec, 492 delay weapon, 6 hit build, 50% haste (haste wouldn't matter in this case cuz it will help both grip in the same way but I will do high haste situation since ppl seem to think that would help sword strap more).
Sword Strap:
206 hits
11 jumps
5.5 high jumps
41.2 ws
Pole grip
204 hits
11.2 Jump
5.6 High Jump
41.6 WS (this is counting the double attack, since 2% DA pretty much increase 2% of your average WS damage, less if it is single hit ws with high ftp)
So in the end we are comparing 2 regular hits vs 0.2 jump 0.1 high jump 0.4 ws.
I would say they are very very close with pole strap come up on top assuming your WS damage is at least 5 times the regular hits.
You can check my math, but I think this is a pretty fair way to present it.
Note that for WS that is effected by TP, you will be averaging higher tp when you do ws with pole grip, which in drakesbane's case will up your critical hit rate by a little (1% at most I believe assuming each tp is 0.2% critical hit rate). However, there will also be time where you DA while 1 hit away from WSing so the tp you get from DAing went to waste in term that you won't generate more WS with it, but more ws damage certainly.
Also did not include the tp you gain from DAing jump and high jump.
In all honesty, I would stick with Pole grip for Drg base on this.
I was thinking that I would just stick with the Pole Grip for normal mobs really, the difference was really 0.375% like Failure calculated, I mean an extra 375 damage to every 100,000 you do it just not a massive deal. In which case I still need an answer to my question.
If you really really really don't need acc, then homam is already out of question, and so as ACP body.
Askar vs aurum, Askar will be better if you absolutely don't need acc.
If you even need a slight acc, aurum would be the best.
I'll quote myself so you can see the gear sets again, if you add 8 Polearm merits Accuracy to the Accuracy value you see here, assuming no Hasso, you need exactly 10 to cap on Greater Colibri, as for Mamool etc with Marinara Pizza+1 it's about capped accuracy (430) for most mobs (Homam Corroza on Lurkers/Infiltrators I guess) with Forager's Mantle and no body armor so really I am asking what increases damage more out of Aurum and Askar.
Need some help here THF masters:
Homam body or Enkidu Body for THF tp?
I usually spam kabobs on birds and use pizza elsewhere. No dagger merits as I have them in other jobs.
TP setup:
Walahra
Love torque
Suppa/brutal
Iota ring(yes the 3 dex puts me at an even dex number, so i get 5acc).
Ulth ring.
Homam hands/legs/feet.
Swift.
Foragers.
Bomb Core (Yes I know I should upgrade to bomblet).
My daggers need work (working on a blau/X's/Siricco), but using an 8 acc, 32 base damage fae dagger and daylight dagger offhand (20+ acc during day, 8 during night).
Really cant decide between homam and enkidu body =/.
two questions:
1. on merit level mobs, 5/5 STR, 37 str, 40 dex, 0 dagger merits, THF/NIN; evisceration or DE? when is it a better idea to use evisceration over DE? back in 2005~ on my first thief, i toyed around with the idea of evisceration over DE but only through eyeballing it. i'm sure BG has come up with a definitive answer.
2. sub optimally geared swordchucks WAR/NIN vs sub optimally geared perdu WAR/SAM? my gear is all right and appropriate but not incredible by any means. i'm actually quite embarrassed by the chiv chain and nq hauberk but i'm working on those.
head: turban, heca
neck: chiv chain, appropriate gorgets
earrings: suppa, brutal, pixie, ethereal, fowling
body: hauberk
hands: dusk, heca
rings: ulth, woodsman, rajas
back: amemet+1
waist: swift, warwolf, lifebelt
legs: haidate
feet: aurum, heca+1
merits: 3 berserk, 3 agg, 4 DA, 8/8 sword, 4/8 axe
Is this your build Neo:http://ffxigear.com/?ref=21006
If so, easily Homam Body. For Colibri, you're 41 ACC from cap during Day (For the 12 ACC from Dagger).
Tahs: Use Perdu G Axe
Rajas > Ulthalams (provided you have one)
As for Homam vs Enkidu, If you could give me your DoT/WS ratio, and attack value before adding the harness, I could do a general comparison for you. Also, how much TA do you have prior to adding homam?
Raen can come in later and check on my work.
Edit: To neo btw
STR5 Attack10 vs Acc5 TA1%
STR5 = fSTR + 1.25, your average D is 30 so we'll use that with an assumed ~3fSTR, = 1.25/33 = +~3.79% DoT.
Attack10 on an approximate 425 Attack base = 10/425 = ~2.35% DoT, will be more depending on how high above you the monster is.
Acc5 = 2.5% hitrate, at a rough 85% base = 2.5/85 = ~2.94% DoT and WS frequency.
Converting TA into DA, 1% TA = 2% DA on a 25% DA base (10% TA + Brutal Earring) = + 1.6% DoT and WS frequency.
Taking DoT/WS ratios to be roughly 70% DoT 30% WS,
STR5 contribution = 3.79 * 0.7 = 2.65% damage
Attack10 contribution = 2.35 * 0.7 = 1.65% damage, will be higher!
vs
Acc5 contribution = 2.94% damage
TA1 contribution = 1.6% damage
Basically, Enkidu is only the better body piece if your accuracy is very strong, which you won't get without dagger merits unless you're eating pizza/sushi really... and then Rapparee Harness becomes a strong contender.
Enkidu Harness is niche, and this niche is really only accessible to "career" THFs in terms of merits etc.
I want your STR merits!1. on merit level mobs, 8/8 STR, 37 str, 40 dex, 0 dagger merits, THF/NIN; evisceration or DE? when is it a better idea to use evisceration over DE? back in 2005~ on my first thief, i toyed around with the idea of evisceration over DE but only through eyeballing it. i'm sure BG has come up with a definitive answer.
Evis is better on slightly harder mobs than DE, and even moreso if you have X's Knife and/or high dDEX (think Mithra). I'd use DE if I'm getting good buffs, otherwise Evis. Note also that Evisceration has great skillchain possibilities with Darkness... which you will see a lot with SAMs in the party!
Thanx for the help everyone, Ill stick with Homam body for now and use Enkidu in my soloing set.
I didnt look at the math yet, so didnt realize I was 40 under acc on colibri.. even with daylight dagger. That is depressing. Ill need to fork out the gil for bomblet and swap to culc's mantle, especially once I lose the daylight dagger for Siricco's.
Thanx everyone.
Btw, u have Rajas?
Trying to put together alternate WAR sets for when I have Aggressor and Aggressor + Hasso up, for both I was trying to decide on Blitz Ring/Woodsman vs. Ecphoria/Woodsman(will be Blitz/Sniper+1 eventually, but a while off from gil for a 7acc ring). Basically comes down to 404acc/20% gear haste vs. 408acc/19% gear haste. Would Blitz be preferable over that last 2%~ hit rate?
2/93 = +2.15% DoT/WS frequency
1/(100 - (x + 1)) = 0.0215
1 = 0.0215(100 - x - 1)
1 = 2.15 - 0.0215x -0.0215
x = 52.5%
If Blitz Ring takes you from 53 => 54% or above, it will be superior to 2% hitrate at 93% => 95% accuracy.
